  • Patent number: 7029601
Abstract: In color printing, and in the fine arts, cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) color inks are known to possess much higher color saturation and brightness than conventional pigment and dyed based inks. However, prior art CLC ink formulations are inconvenient because in the liquid phase they have to be confined in cells, and in the solid phase, they have to be applied at high temperature, and have to be aligned by some means to produce the optimum color. This invention solves the problem encountered in the CLC prior art, by making pre-aligned CLC platelets or flakes of appropriate thickness and size and mixing them in appropriate host fluids producing a novel CLC ink which can be applied at room temperature and without the need for alignment. The new pre-aligned room temperature CLC ink can be used as a substitute for conventional inks in almost all printing and plotting, and manual drawing and painting. Using the notch filter CLC platelets, the brightness is further enhanced.

Further optional additives, such as pigments, fillers, photosensitizers, stabilizers emulsifiers and security pigments may be present. The ink shows excellent wipeability and allows precipitation from the wiping solution.

Abstract: A polymer Thick Film (“PTF”) laminate, in which selected (and advantageously all) of the layers are deployed using UV-curable inks. In one embodiment of the invention, the UV-curable PTF layers are deployed in an exemplary monolithic and membranous EL structure, in which UV-cured urethane envelope layers encapsulate UV-cured urethane electroluminescent layers. When deployed in layer form during manufacture and subsequently exposed to UV radiation, the inventive inks cure in a few seconds without any appreciable layer height shrinkage. Manufacturing cycle time is significantly optimized over traditional heat curing processes. Flexible circuitry is also disclosed herein. The flexible circuitry may be embodied using the UV-curable urethane inks disclosed herein, although the flexible circuitry is not limited to UV-curable or urethane embodiments. Successive insulating layers are deployed. The insulating layers have conductive pathways deployed thereon.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of marking substandard parts on system carriers for chip mounting. The invention is intended to provide a method of marking substandard parts in which, without special effort, a permanent marking that can easily be detected by an optical recognition system and having adequate contrast can be produced, and in which the occurrence of the stamp effect is reliably avoided. According to the invention, for the marking of substandard parts on the system carrier, use is made of a permanent, non-detachable BUM marking the appearance of which is distinct from the surrounds. This can be carried out by removing material from the surface of the system carrier or by means of a deposition method. Other possibilities exist by means of applying heat at a point or chemical marking. so that a locally limited, permanent appearance, e.g. color change of the substrate close to the surface or of the metal deposited on the said substrate is effected in the area of the BUM marking.

  • Patent number: 6551526

Abstract: A system and method for finishing a series of golf balls is disclosed herein. The system automatically transfers each of the golf balls from station to station on the system. The system has at least one coating station that has at least one spray gun that moves in relation to a golf ball being conveyed through the coating station. The spray gun moves in a track extending from a position below the golf ball to a position above the golf ball. The system has a transfer means that includes a series of transport pucks. Each transport puck has a plurality of shafts with spindles attached to the top of each of the shafts. Each spindle holds a golf ball for processing through the system. The spindles are rotated at relatively high rates during the coating process. In order to reduce tip marks on the finished golf ball, the golf balls are transferred from each spindle utilizing a high pressure gas. The system may be used to coat each golf ball with a basecoat, an indicia and a topcoat.
