    Abstract: A densified silicon carbide body having excellent mechanical strength. This body is obtained by a method of densifying a porous silicon carbide substrate that includes the steps of impregnating a porous silicon carbide substrate with a curable silicone composition that contains a silicon carbide powder, curing the silicone composition, and thermally decomposing the cured product in a non-oxidizing atmosphere.
