    Abstract: Disclosed is a method to provide a metal wire with a coating system comprising a primer and a topcoat, particularly a hydrophilic, lubricious topcoat. The method comprises applying directly onto the wire metal a primer coating composition, which is an aqueous coating composition comprising a multiphase vinyl polymer, the polymer comprising a first phase having a Tg in the range of from ?20° C. to 40° C. and a hard phase having a Tg in the range of from 25° C. to 120° C. The primer has good adhesion to both the metal surface and the topcoat, and provides the eventual coating system with, inter alia, a good flexibility.

The polymer membranes were prepared from aromatic polyimide membranes by thermal treating under inert atmosphere followed by crosslinking preferably by using a UV radiation source. The aromatic polyimide membranes were made from aromatic polyimide polymers comprising both pendent hydroxy functional groups ortho to the heterocyclic imide nitrogen and cross-linkable functional groups in the polymer backbone. The membranes showed significantly improved selectivity and permeability for gas separations compared to the aromatic polyimide membranes without any treatment. The membranes can be fabricated into any convenient geometry and are not only suitable for a variety of liquid, gas, and vapor separations, but also can be used for other applications such as for catalysis and fuel cell applications.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a coating material for protecting metals, especially steel, from corrosion and/or scaling, to a method for coating metals and to a metal element. The aim of the invention is to provide a coating material that protects steel from corrosion and/or scaling and that can be welded after heat treatment of the coated steel at temperatures of more than 800° C. For this purpose, substances are provided that render the applied coating material suitable for welding, especially for spot welding. The coating material can be applied by wet chemical methods, it changes its structure when subjected to high temperature processes of more than 600° C. and is suitable as a primer for additional coating materials.

    Abstract: A process for filling or lining the pores of a porous silicon, silica or alumina substrate with a material which exhibits voltage-dependent index of refraction n is provided comprising providing precursors for the deposited material as a precursor solution, forming a fine mist of droplets of precursor solution and applying the droplets to the porous substrate. The invention provides for the first time porous silicon, silica and alumina substrates having a fill fraction of at least 60%. Fill fractions of close to l00% can be achieved. When provided with top and bottom electrodes, filled porous silicon, silica and alumina wafers can be used as voltage-dependent photonic devices. The same process can be used for lining trenches in the surface of a silicon substrate, for instance for use in production of microelectronic devices such as random access memories.

    Abstract: Droplets of an ultraviolet-curing resin are jetted on to a cavity plate included in a stacked body, and the droplets are cured by irradiating ultraviolet rays. Next, a vibration layer is formed on the cavity plate by an AD method. Further, a common electrode is formed on the vibration layer, and a mask is arranged on the vibration layer. Next, a piezoelectric layer is formed on the vibration layer, and thereafter, the mask is removed. Further, a through hole and pressure chambers are formed by removing parts of the cavity plate.
