Abstract: Provided are methods and associated compositions directed to a structural bonding adhesive. The structural bonding adhesive is made by mixing a curable composition comprising a mixture of a first curable resin and a second curable resin to provide an uncured adhesive. The uncured adhesive is irradiated by a first actinic light source to polymerize the first curable resin without polymerizing the second curable resin to provide a partially cured adhesive. The partially cured adhesive is a pressure-sensitive adhesive that displays cold flow creep recovery under ambient conditions and is capable of being fully cured by irradiating the partially cured adhesive using a second actinic light source that is different from the first actinic light source to polymerize the second curable resin.

Abstract: A plastic barrier screen that is molded and drawn; the screen is formed from a process that uses the speed of injection molding to form a part that can be mechanically oriented in a second operation that is equally fast. The plastic barrier screen is first formed from injection molding a part with multiple square or hexagonal holes ½ to ? opening size in a uniform pattern, including longitudinal dividers between such holes of 2 to 6 times the final desired screen barrier cross sectional area of the longitudinals respectively. The molded part is then stretched along the longitudinal elements of the mold to molecularly orient at elevated temperature to produce a larger planar dimension of 2 to 6 times the original plastic screen with high strength molecularly oriented monofilament longitudinal elements.

Abstract: A transformative periodic structure includes a plurality of elastomeric or elasto-plastic periodic solids that experiences a transformation in the structural configuration upon application of a critical macroscopic stress or strain. The transformation alters the geometric pattern changing the spacing and the shape of the features within the transformative periodic structure. For the case of elastomeric periodic structures upon removal of the critical macroscopic stress or strain, the transformative periodic solids are recovered to their original form. For the case of elasto-plastic periodic structures upon removal of the critical macroscopic stress or strain, the new pattern is retained. Polymeric periodic solids can be recovered to their original form by heating or plasticizing.

Abstract: A shipping label is operable to be applied to a package and includes a single label ply. The single label ply presents longitudinally spaced ends, opposite top and bottom faces extending between the ends, and a generally transverse fold line of weakness spaced between the ends. The label ply is foldable about the fold line to define upper and lower label sections, with the upper label section overlying the lower label section when the label ply is folded, and the top face of the upper label section being operable to receive package address indicia thereon. The upper label section includes a separation line of weakness defining a border portion and a separable central portion. The upper label section includes adhesive applied to the bottom face along at least part of the border portion. The lower label section includes a dividing line of weakness defining a connecting portion and an end portion, with the connecting portion extending between the fold line and dividing line.

  • Patent number: 8715808
Abstract: This invention provides a coupling method for coupling a first and a second stiffening profile element for an outer skin of an aircraft or space craft. In a first step the stiffening profile elements are arranged on the outer skin in such a manner that the stiffening profile elements oppose each other with their respective front sides and enclose within themselves a cavity. Furthermore, a fixing hole is formed through a wall of at least one of the stiffening profile elements in the cavity inside a coupling zone of the stiffening profile element. An access opening is formed through the wall in the cavity along the coupling zone. A coupling strap, which couples the stiffening profile elements together, is fastened to the coupling zone by means of a fastening element guided through the fixing hole.

  • Patent number: 8613993
Abstract: The Present Invention discloses a slit web material, substantially longer than it is wide, with specially shaped slits that permit relatively easy expansion upon deployment. The specially shaped slits are referred to in the Present Application as “tilde-slits,” because they resemble a tilde mark. The cuts are arranged in continuous rows of tilde-slits. In any given row, the tilde-slits follow one-after-the-other in a linear direction. Adjacent rows of slits are parallel to each other, but are offset from one another such that a line drawn between adjacent tilde-slits in adjacent rows is not perpendicular to the direction of the rows. The invention contemplates that the material dispenses from a continuous roll. If the slits are arranged in the longitudinal direction, then the web material expands in the width direction only upon deployment.
