  • Patent number: 5863471
Abstract: A new and improved humidifier wick and its method of manufacture are disclosed. The humidifier wick is made from a cellulose foam material that is compressed to a predetermined thickness in a dry condition. A series of air flow openings are formed in such material. As a result, the wick is capable of being expanded to a substantially increased thickness when wet in order to allow air to be drawn through the air flow openings for conveying moisturized air by a power driven fan blade from a humidifier into the atmosphere of a room. The air-flow openings are pre-configured in the humidifier wick, when in its dry condition, in order to allow air to pass into and beyond the air flow openings of the wick when it is wet and expanded. The wick may be used by itself or together with a number of similarly constructed wick elements.

  • Patent number: 5863636
Abstract: The invention relates to an adhesive bond 1 for a plurality of densely packed elements 4a, 4b, 4c guided into a plate pack 3. At the plate surface 2 with the adhesive bond 1 the guidance holes 5a are made larger than the guidance holes 5b in the remainder of the plate pack (3) and the adhesive bond is effected by means of a highly viscous adhesive. Because of the larger opening 5a, an adhesive reservoir 10 is formed at the plate surface 2. This makes it possible to use high viscosity adhesives. The geometric features and the use of a highly viscous adhesive make it possible to manufacture durable and heat-resistant adhesive bonds for elements such as wires, glass fibers or micromechanical components.

  • Patent number: 5783287
Abstract: A method for molding a plastic part comprises preforming a film laminate and insert molding a plastic substrate against the film laminate. According to one embodiment, the film laminate is preformed with re-entrant edge portions. • Patent number: 5722220
Abstract: An apparatus manufactured from a single sheet of flexible material. The sheet includes a plurality of peripheral sections, wherein at least one of the sections includes an opening through which remaining sections may be passed to gather and enclose material contained within the sheet. Preferably, the sheet is in the shape of a square, and includes a pair of slits in adjacent corners of the sheet. In use, the instant invention is laid on the ground in an area near the material to be bagged. The individual then places the material onto the sheet until the sheet is full. Once the sheet is full, one of the unslitted corners is pulled across the sheet to the farthest corner having a slit. The unslitted end is then pulled through the slit such that a portion of the unslitted end is exposed on the other side of the sheet. Next, the other unslitted end is pulled across the sheet and through the remaining slit such that a portion of the second unslitted end is exposed on the other side of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 5705252
Abstract: An expanded resilient product and methods for making the same are disclosed. The product is characterized as a geometric solid of resilient material that has a plurality of slits formed therein. Each slit is defined by a first surface having a protruding portion and second surface having a recess portion corresponding to the protruding portion of the first surface which together form an interlocking fit between the two. Forces are applied to the product sufficient to dislodge a protruding portion of the first surface from the complementary recess portion of the second surface, thereby forming a plurality of gaps. The product is then permitted to relax, whereupon the protruding portions compressively contact the complementary recess portions of the second surface. But because of the interlocking fit, the protruding portions are prevented from re-engaging the recess portions and thereby maintain the expanded nature of the product.

Abstract: A magnetic head is manufactured by the steps of accommodating a core chip blank into an elongated hole provided in a slider blank, joining the core chip blank and the slider blank together with glass and then grinding the surface to form a surface which makes sliding-contact with a recording medium. Glass for joining the core chip blank and the slider blank together is obtained by melting a glass rod mounted in a predetermined position on the slider blank. In order to prevent the core chip from being positionally moved by surface tension of the molten glass when the glass rod is melted, the edges of the elongated hole are partially provided with protrusions for positioning the glass rod so as to prevent surface tension of the molten glass from positionally moving the core chip.

Abstract: An integral fastener particularly for use in mounting a sheet material to a structural member with a plurality of threaded studs. The integral fastener in one embodiment is connected to the sheet by a web adjacent an aperture in the sheet. The fastener has an opening that defines multiple flaps. To fasten the sheet material to the stud, the stud is inserted through the sheet aperture and the fastener is pressed on the stud so that it extends through the fastener opening, deflecting the flaps, which engage the threads of the stud. In another embodiment, the fastener is formed within the sheet and defines an opening through which the stud passes. In a third embodiment, the stud comprises a T-shaped flange and the fastener has a slotted opening at an acute angle to the plane of the T-shaped flange to retain the fastener on the T-shaped flange.

  • Patent number: 5599608
Abstract: A method for molding a plastic part comprises preforming a film laminate and insert molding a plastic substrate against the film laminate. According to one embodiment, the film laminate is preformed with re-entrant edge portions. The insert molding step involves positioning the film laminate in a mold cavity, closing the mold and injecting molten resin into the mold cavity against the film laminate. The force of the closing of the mold and the injection of the resin causes the re-entrant edge portions to curl up under the solidifying resin to ensure complete coverage of the longitudinal edges of the plastic substrate by the film laminate. According to another embodiment, a stencil of an image is made in the film laminate prior to the insert molding. The resin injected into the mold flows into the stencil so that the image is visible against the surrounding surface of the film laminate.
