Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a decorative surface element, which element comprises a base layer, a decor and a wear layer of a UV or electron beam curing lacquer. One or more structured surfaces, forming embossing surfaces of one or more rollers or moulds, are positioned on top of the decorative lacquered surface, possibly after having cured the lacquer to a desired viscosity, and are continuously or discontinuously pressed on to this. The lacquer will be provided with a surface structure which enhances the decorative effect of the decor. The wear layer is then completely cured.

Abstract: Methods are provided for uniform deposition of particles on curved surfaces such as fibers and coatings formed by the particles. Particles in the size range of 10-2000 nm are deposited onto a fibrous material via electrostatic interaction between charge modified fiber material surfaces and oppositely charged particles or metal ions. Various nonmetallic, bimetallic or other charged particles are deposited onto a fibrous material via electrostatic interaction between charged modified fibrous material surfaces and oppositely charged particles. Particles can be directly assembled onto a surface of a fibrous material by controlling hydrogen bonding interactions between interfaces of fibers and functionalized particles. Metal particles can also be deposited by in situ synthesis. A method is also provided for layer-by-layer deposition of particles over a fibrous material.

The configuration is realized by using delustering silica, whose surface is treated with a fatty acid based wax such as stearic acid, in a decorative material 10 in which a luster adjusting resin layer 2, formed of a cross-linked cured material of an ionizing radiation curing resin composition containing a delustering silica, is on base material 1.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, comprising: coating a surface with a mussel adhesive protein such that a first layer comprising the MAP is achieved on the first surface, and providing a second layer comprising a first plurality of particles on at least a portion of said first layer comprising said MAP. It also relates to a device comprising a substrate having a first surface; a first layer comprising said MAP, said first layer being arranged on said first surface, and a second layer comprising a first plurality of particles attached to at least a portion of said MAP of said first layer. The present invention is based on the realization that a MAP can advantageously be used to immobilize particles on a substrate, for example in a layer-by-layer assembly. Thereby, providing a highly functionalized surface.

  • Patent number: 8481185
Abstract: Components that include catalyst layers used in membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs), and methods of making such components are described. The catalyst layers yield more uniform current distributions across the active area of the MEA during operation. The catalyst layers may have a uniform catalyst activity profile of a less active catalyst to achieve more uniform current density over the MEA active area. The catalyst layers may have a variable activity profile, such as an activity profile with a varying slope, to compensate for the inherent nonlinearities of catalyst utilization during operation of an electrochemical fuel cell. Desired variable catalyst activity profiles may be achieved, for example, by varying the catalyst loading across the MEA from inlet to outlet ports or by varying the surface area of the catalyst loading or by varying the surface area of the catalyst support elements.
