    Abstract: There is provided a method and novel formulations for printing images on a latex rubber surface. An ink containing natural or synthetic rubber, a pigment dispersion, and an aromatically unsaturated solvent medium for said rubber is used. The stability of the image is improved providing to the rubber molecules of the ink, an agent, such as an aryl diisocyanate, that will form a tough, flexible, chemically resistant matrix between the rubber molecules of the ink, the base coat, where present and the latex surface. A base coat may be used upon the latex surface to anchor the printing ink thereto. This base coat can comprise a natural rubber in an aromatically unsaturated solvent and may also contain the aryl diisocyanate. The method may be improved by certain post printing steps such as heating and curing the printed product.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing an oriented plastic strap having a predetermined desired thickness and flatness characteristics for use in connection with the strapping of packages or the like, is disclosed. A sheet workpiece is conducted into a nip defined between a pair of opposed milling and stretching rollers wherein one of the rollers is rotated at a lineal surface velocity which is greater than the lineal surface velocity of the other roller, and the rollers are rotated in opposite directions. One of the rollers effectively brakes or retards one of the surfaces of the sheet workpiece while the other one of the rollers effectively accelerates the other one of the surfaces of the sheet workpiece as the workpiece passes through the nip defined between the rollers whereby the workpiece is simultaneously milled and stretched.

Such a film is obtained by passing the molded film from the calender through a set of heating rolls at temperatures revealed in this invention before entering the stretching system. The obtained polypropylene film has superior printability, low density and high stiffness, and thus is suitable for use as a paper substitute.

    Abstract: An inexpensive, lightweight, strong and durable casting that has a surface appearance simulating carved stone, and is especially adapted for use as a transition between a brick or stone wall and window and door openings. Further, it provides architectural detail to building constructions, especially as a surround for window and door openings. The casting is produced from a mixture of graded aggregates and a resin binder, combined in predetermined proportions to make a soupy mixture that is cast in a mold. The mold is vibrated to cause migration of air bubbles away from the surface of the molded product, and to cause realignment and orientation of the aggregate materials in a way to enhance the structure and surface density of the product. After the casting has set, it is removed from the mold and cured and the surface is sandblasted to erode away some of the resin binder and portions of the aggregate at the surface to produce an appearance that is an accurate simulation of carved stone.

    Abstract: An asphaltic polyurethane foam useful in roofing applications. The foam is made from asphalt having a penetration range of between approximately 5-25, a softening point of between approximately 120.degree. F. and 200.degree. F., and an asphaltene content of no more than about 30%. This asphalt is liquified and mixed with a mixture of polyols such as Voranol 270, Multranol 9138, and castor oil. Other chemicals, such as a surfactant, a viscosity reducer, and a flame retardant can also be included in this mixture. The mixture is then brought to a temperature of between approximately 140.degree. F. and 220.degree. F., mixed with a polyisocyanate and water, and reacted to form an asphaltic polyurethane foam.

The tape adhesive composition further includes at least one tackifying additive compatible with said polymer blend and a sulfur and organic accelerator cure, package for said polymer blend, the adhesive composition being devoid of butyl rubber which is found in most other adhesive tape compositions. This composition is seen as providing excellent long-term heat aging, weathering resistance, and low temperature properties as compared to adhesive tape compositions containing butyl rubber. Moreover, the adhesive tape composition provides more surface tack, better "quick-grab", and higher green strength as compared to adhesive tape compositions containing 100 percent EPDM rubber.

The protective overcoating may be applied in a thick layer to give gouge resistance and a deep look in the glossy laminate. The overcoated decor sheet is pressed against a mirror plate in the laminate manufacturing process, and gives a gloss meter reading well over 100. Because the impregnating resin and the pre-cured particulates have the same index of refraction, the transparency of the coating and the resultant clarity of the underlying decor sheet are excellent.

The peelability is maintained by the minute particles, and the film is stretched about 2 to 10 times and then wound whereby the self-adhesion is exhibited.

    Abstract: Roadway traffic control marking tape and reflective sheeting are known in the art for providing temporary delineation and demarcation of traffic lanes in order to guide the flow of traffic through detours, construction areas and the like. Traffic channelizers and barricades are also well known in the art as barriers to discourage crossing the lanes onto the other side thereof. When work on highway lanes is completed, and traffic is redirected to newly opened lanes, the tape is generally removed. When it breaks during removal the job is particularly demanding. Damage to traffic channelizing devices which are hit by fast moving vehicles leads to their frequent replacement. Hence it has become desirable to recycle them. The recycling process requires that the reflective sheet first be removed. But the recycling process too has been hampered by the difficulty of sheet breaking during its removal.
