Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to vapor retarding building materials and methods for making them. The present inventors have found simple and cost-efficient materials that have low water vapor permeability at low relative humidities and that can be provided as a coating on a building material substrate. Notably, in many embodiments, the materials can have high water vapor permeability at high relative humidities. In one embodiment, the disclosure provides vapor retarding articles comprising a building material substrate; and a polymeric coating layer coated on the building material substrate, the polymeric coating layer comprising an inorganic hydrophilic particulate filler dispersed in a continuous organic phase comprising a hydrophobic polymer, wherein the content of the filler is from about 30% to about 85% by weight of the polymeric coating layer, the vapor retarding article configured to have a water vapor permeance of no more than about 1 Perm at 25% relative humidity.

Abstract: A composite intraluminal prosthesis which is preferably used as a vascular prothesis includes a layer of ePTFE and a layer of textile material which are secured together by an elastomeric bonding agent. The ePTFE layer includes a porous microstructure defined by nodes interconnected by fibrils. The adhesive bonding agent is preferably applied in solution so that the bonding agent enters the pores of the microstructure of the ePTFE. This helps secure the textile layer to the ePTFE layer.

Abstract: Described herein are fugitive hot melt adhesive compositions having a substantial weight percent of renewable plant-based content. The adhesive compositions impart high initial adhesive bond strength between an object and a substrate quickly after application in the molten state, wherein the adhesive bond strength is spontaneously substantially reduced to a very low or near zero level after a short time, for example between about 1 minute and 60 minutes after application. Methods of use and articles formed using the compositions are also described.

  • Publication number: 20120189838
Abstract: A layered insulation panel including a rigid polyisocyanurate foam layer and, adhered to at least one surface thereof, a facing material. The two materials are adhered by a two-component polyisocyanurate adhesive, and both the polyisocyanurate adhesive and the polyisocyanurate foam layer undergo polymerization concurrently and in place. The result is that the tensile bond strength between the polyisocyanurate foam layer and the facing surface is improved, due to interaction between the polymerization occurring at the surface of the foam layer and the polymerization of the polyisocyanurate adhesive.
