Patent number: 4272577Abstract: A no-wax ski base is formed of a composite material in which relatively harder particles are uniformly distributed in a plastic matrix. The harder particles are angularly oriented with respect to the gliding surface of the ski base to provide a unidirectional friction coefficient that combines good gliding properties in the ski forward direction with good grip properties in the backward or "kick off" direction of the ski. These friction properties are maintained throughout the entire life of the ski base irrespective of wear. The ski base may be manufactured by extruding the plastic composite material through a split nozzle while causing it to flow substantially asymmetrically through the split nozzle to obtain the angular orientation of the harder particles in the plastic matrix.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1978Date of Patent: June 9, 1981Assignees: Andelslaget for Norsk Skiforskning, Sentralinstitutt for Industrielle ForskningInventor: Stig Lyng

Patent number: 3959195Abstract: A chipboard structure is disclosed which is made substantially of 100% sawdust waste material. The chipboard has a core portion which contains the coarsest particles of the sawdust, the surface portions of the chipboard containing the finest fraction of the sawdust, intervening portions of the chipboard containing fractions which increase in size from the surface to the core portion of the chipboard. The method and apparatus involve the use of sawdust having a width and/or thickness no greater than 4.75 mm, the fractions of the sawdust having a particle size greater than 0.1 mm being sliced to increase the quantity of the fractions below 0.1 mm. Because the small particles are randomly disposed in the chipboard in directions not only parallel to the plane but also perpendicular and at an angle thereto, characteristics are obtained which are as good as chipboard produced from conventional materials other than sawdust.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1974Date of Patent: May 25, 1976Assignee: AB KarlstadplattanInventor: Erik Gustav Lennart Eriksson

Patent number: 3956541Abstract: A structural member is fabricated from a mixture of scrap particles of thermoplastic wire and cable insulation, wood particles, comminuted paper, sawdust, and a suitable resin binder. The fabrication procedure is carried out by initially forming a mixture of reclaimed thermoplastic wire or cable insulation, a thermosetting binder, and one or more wood like fillers, such as wood chips, comminuted paper and sawdust and mold release agent. The mixture is then placed in a mold and is subjected to heat and pressure to form a structural member.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1974Date of Patent: May 11, 1976Assignee: Capital Wire & Cable, Division of U. Patent number: T967003Abstract: wood is disintegrated to prepare a mass of wood fibers which are formed into a mat. A unique hardboard is prepared by compressing a preformed mat comprising thermoplastic resins, wood fibers and wood fibers coated with such resins. The hardboard has a resin content of from about 37% to about 39% and a wood fiber content from about 53% to about 57%. The moisture content of the hardboard is ordinarily within a range from about 4% to about 10%, but such moisture content has the range expected for wood products under a wide range of temperatures, humidities, pressures and related variables. The thickness of the hardboard must be within the range from 790 to 850 microns and the density of the hardboard must be within the range from 690 to 750 milligrams per cubic centimeter. Heretofore such hardboard has been proposed for use as a facing lamina in multilamina composites for covering up various irregularities in the surface of the adjacent lamina while preserving a smooth facing surface.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1977Date of Patent: February 7, 1978Inventors: Alvin E.
