Abstract: Articles having a Shore A hardness of 50 to 95 and made from polyolefin compositions comprising an ethylene-alpha-olefin interpolymer (random or block or a mixture of the two) are paintable without the need for a primer or other surface treatment with paints free of phthalate-based plasticizer and designed to paint SBS- or SEBS-type rubber based compositions. These polyolefin compositions are free of (1) phthalate-based plasticizer, (2) halogen-containing polymer, and (3) leachable, small polymeric units derived from styrene monomer. In addition, the content of the alpha-olefin in the polyolefin composition is at least 9.7 mole percent.

Abstract: The invention described herein includes a repellent elastomeric article with antimicrobial properties particularly useful in industrial and medical fields, such as gloves. The article contains an elastomeric base and a fluid-repellent coating composition that effectively repels both hydrophilic and lipophilic liquids from its surface and inhibits cross-contamination of surfaces. Articles prepared in accordance with the invention reduce the risk of contamination associated with blood and other body fluids, as well as reduce fluid-based visual obstruction and enhance the clarity of medical procedures. The invention also provides a method of reducing the ability of fluids to adhere to the surface of an elastomeric article.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel polyamide alloy composition that is useful for forming objects that may be used for the storage and transport of fluids. The polyamide alloy is a blend of at least one polyamide and at least one modified polyolefin having both medium to hard and soft domains. The polyamide forms the continuous phase of the alloy. The alloy may also contain, and preferably does contain, a thermal and light stabilization compound, at least one unmodified polyolefin, and at least one plasticizer. The polyamide alloy composition is useful in forming tanks, hoses and tubes used in the transport of liquid or gaseous fluids, including fluids under pressure.

  • Patent number: 8524345
Abstract: A temporary part is fixed to a base by using an adhesive layer to which fillers are mixed at a predetermined density. When the temporary part is heated, heat is applied to the fillers and the adhesive layer. At a temperature equal to or higher than the glass-transition temperature of the adhesive agent, the heated adhesive layer is thermally contracted so as to release remaining stress, and on the other hand, the heated fillers are thermally expanded. In this manner, the peel-off strength between the adhesive layer and the base (or the temporary part) is reduced, and the disassembly is facilitated.

Abstract: Rollers for high speed printers and paper handling devices are fabricated by reacting polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate with a polyester polyol and/or polyester polyamine and an optional extender, together with a metal salt, a catalyst, and one or more other optional additives, including a liquid conductive additive. The resulting rollers provide a hardness as low as 15 A on cube, a resistivity as low as 5E4 ?·cm, a compression set as low as 0.5% at room temperature and as low as 3% at 157° F., and low tackiness as low as 13 g/cm of adhesion force.

  • Patent number: 8507062
Abstract: A flexible-to-rigid tube is flexible when routed and is then rigidized to increase burst strength. According to the preferred embodiments of the present invention, the flexible-to-rigid tube is included in a cooling plate assembly for transferring heat from electronic components mounted on a circuit board. In one embodiment, the flexible-to-rigid tube (while in a flexible state) includes a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) or other silicone containing pendant or terminal epoxy, vinyl and/or acrylate functional groups and an initiator (e.g., a sulfonium salt photoinitiator, a free radical photoinitiator, or a thermal initiator). In another embodiment, triallyl isocyanurate (TAIC) and an initiator are incorporated into a conventional PVC-based tubing material. The flexible-to-rigid tube changes from the flexible state to a rigid state via formation of a cross-linked network upon exposure to actinic radiation or heat.
