  • Patent number: 8163365
Abstract: A method for forming a sheet of label material is provided. The label material is used to form a label for placement on an object and for subsequent removal from the object without damaging the object. The method includes providing a paper substrate that has an adhesive receiving face and coating an adhesive on the adhesive receiving face of the paper substrate using a gravure coater to form a repetitive pattern of adhesive areas. For example, repetitive dots of adhesive assure a uniform, discontinuous coating of adhesive that allows repositioning of the label, that prevents tearing of or damage to a substrate when the label is removed, including from a newspaper, and that maintains sufficient adhesion to adhere to difficult substrates such as textured surfaces. The adhesive is a water based adhesive. In alternative embodiments, the adhesive is coated on an adhesive receiving face of a release liner, and the adhesive receiving face of the paper substrate removably adheres to the release liner.

Abstract: In a wafer processing tape, circular or tongue-shaped notched parts facing the center of an adhesive layer, as seen in a plan view, are formed so as to correspond to a pasting region to a wafer ring to a depth that reaches a release base material from the side of a base material film. Due to the formation of the notched parts, when a peeling force acts on the wafer processing tape, portions of a tacky material layer and the base material film which are more outward than the notched parts are peeled off first, and a portion that is more inward than the notched parts remains on the wafer ring in a protruding state. Accordingly, a peeling strength between the wafer processing tape and the wafer ring can be increased. Methods of manufacturing the tape and a semiconductor device are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8147965
Abstract: A film that contains a thermoplastic polyurethane and water-soluble polymer is provided. The film is both elastic and water-sensitive (e.g., water-soluble, water -dispersible, etc.) in that it loses its integrity over time in the presence of water. The dual attributes of elasticity and water-sensitivity may be achieved by reducing the tendency of the thermoplastic polyurethane and water-soluble polymer to form separate phases. Namely, phase separation may cause the elastomer to act as a barrier and limit the ability of the water-soluble polymer to contact water and thereby disperse. To minimize such phase separation, a variety of aspects of the film construction may be selectively controlled, such as the nature of the thermoplastic polyurethane and water-soluble polymer, the relative amount of each component, and so forth. For example, thermoplastic polyurethanes are polar in nature and thus may be generally compatible with water-soluble polymers (e.g., polyvinyl alcohol), which are also polar in nature.

Abstract: With conventional protective sheets for displays, a space corresponding to the size of a hand is formed between the protective sheet and the display face, and thus it takes more time to bring the exposed face and the display into close contact, which increases the probability of dust contamination. The transition strip is positioned in the opening such that a portion of a top side of the transition strip adheres to a bottom surface of a bottom layer of at least one floor panel adjacent the opening and a portion of a top side of the transition strip extends into the opening. A bottom surface of a bottom layer of a replacement floor panel is then adhered to the portion of the transition strip extending into the opening.

Abstract: There is described a label comprising a self supporting sheet of a biopolymer, preferably cellulose (e.g. regenerated cellulose, cellulose acetate and/or PLA) said sheet being substantially transparent to visible light when uncoated characterized in that the sheet comprises: (a) a first coating on at least one surface thereof to aid printability thereon; (b) a second coating comprising an adhesive dispersible in an aqueous medium; and (c) optionally a third coating to modify water permeability through the sheet. The labels are to be applied to articles such as glass containers. Preferred labels are wet glue cellulose labels for example where the first coating also comprises a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate to aid water permeability and hence rapid drying of the label on an article.

A removable adhesive is an ultraviolet-resistant adhesive that is applied to a front surface of the first portion of the liner and a permanent adhesive is applied to a front surface of the second portion of the liner. A transparent film is secured to the removable adhesive and a printable label is secured to the permanent adhesive. The first portion of the liner can be separated from remainder of the construct so that the transparent film can be applied removably over the old product information. The new product information can be printed on the printable label.

Abstract: Disclosed is a reinforced walkway system having an embossed walkway performance layer made of a polymer composite and a composite reinforcement layer thermally bonded thereto. The reinforcement layer includes a high temperature reinforcing composite which is thermally applied to the underside of the performance layer to prevent delamination and maintain the dimensional stability of the embossed performance layer at high temperatures. In one embodiment, the walkway performance layer may comprise any of polyolefin (TPO), Polyvinylchloride (PVC), and Elvaloy/Polyvinylchloride optionally mixed with other additives such as UV protection or mineral fillers. A method of forming a reinforced walkway system includes substantially simultaneously thermally bonding the performance layer to the composite reinforcement layer and embossing the performance layer.
