Patent number: 5063100Abstract: A panel, and method of making the panel, useful as a water barrier including an intermediate layer of a water-swellable colloidal clay, such as bentonite, sandwiched between two layers of sheet material, such as paperboard, wherein at least one of the sheet material layers has a plurality of spaced apertures, or water channels, extending from the exterior of the panel to the intermediate water-swellable clay layer. The sheet material layer containing water channels includes a coating of a removablel material completely across the water channels in the facing sheet having controlled, predetermined water-solubility so that the intermediate water-swellable clay layer is quickly hydrated after solubilization and removal of the coating material, and to prevent clay hydration during installation, prior to removal of the coating material.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1990Date of Patent: November 5, 1991Assignee: American ColloidInventor: William Alexander

Patent number: 5053265Abstract: A flexible or rigid panel, and method of making the panel, useful as a water barrier including an intermediate layer of a water-swellable colloidal clay, such as pentonite, sandwiched between two layers of sheet material, such as woven or non-woven fabric, or paperboard, wherein at least one one of the sheet material layers has a water-soluble coating material covering substantially the entire outer surface of the sheet material layer. The water-soluble coating is a material that dissolves upon a predetermined water contact period, having a controlled, predetermined water-solubility so that the intermediate water-swellable clay layer is protected against hydration during installation.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1990Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Assignee: American Colloid CompanyInventor: William Alexander

Patent number: 5049444Abstract: A multilayered member for fusing thermoplastic resin toner images to a substrate in a fuser system of the type wherein a polymeric release agent having functional groups is applied to the surface of the fuser member. The multilayered fuser member has in sequential order a base support member, an adhesive layer comprising a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene and at least 20% by weight of the adhesive layer of a coupling agent comprising at least one organo functional silaneand an activator, a tie coat layer of active ingredients comprising a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene and an outer elastomeric fusing surface comprising a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene and containing a metal oxide present in an amount sufficient to interact with a polymeric release agent having functional groups to provide an interfacial barrier layer between said fusing surface and toner.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1989Date of Patent: September 17, 1991Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: George J. Bingham, Patrick J. Finn, George J. Heeks, Arnold W. Henry, Donald A. Seanor

Patent number: 4963438Abstract: A method is disclosed for coating sheet-like supports by applying curable organopolysiloxanes, which have been modified with (meth)-acrylate ester groups, on the surface of the support and curing the modified organopolysiloxanes by the action of polymerizing high-energy radiation. Polysiloxanes with hydroxy-functional groups are employed for this purpose, which are obtained by reaction with, based on the hydroxyl groups, 0.4 to 0.9 molar amounts of (meth)acrylic acid and up to 0.6 molar amounts of monocarboxylic acids, which are free of double bonds (sum of the acids.ltoreq.1 molar).Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1989Date of Patent: October 16, 1990Assignee: Th. Goldschmidt AGInventors: Christian Weitemeyer, Dietmar Wewers, Juergen Jachmann
