Abstract: New disazo pigments of the formula ##SPC1##R being hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, nitrile, trifluormethyl, aryloxy, phenylsulfonyl or benzoyl, m and n 1 or 2, X hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, nitrile, trifluormethyl or carboxylic acid ester are prepared. The compounds are useful for pigmenting high molecular weight organic materials such as polyamides, polyurethanes and polyesters.
Abstract: A process for preparing waterproof leathers by fat-liquoring with an aqueous liquor containing esters of citric acid with higher fatty alcohols which are used as the impregnating agent, characterized in that the fat-liquoring agent contains a mixture emulsified in water which consists of (A) an acid ester of citric acid with a higher fatty alcohol having chain lengths of 12 to 22 carbon atoms and (B) an organic alcohol solvent for the citric acid ester which is totally or partially soluble in water and which have a boiling point above 100.degree.C.
Abstract: The invention is directed to pentakisazo dyestuffs of the formula: ##SPC1##In which A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 may be the same or different and each is monosulphonaphthylene, hydroxy-monosulpho-naphthylene or hydroxy-disulphonaphthylene and B.sub.1 and B.sub.
Abstract: A process for the surface treatment of a rubber or synthetic resin containing ethylenic unsaturation by contacting the rubber or resin with an alkyl hypohalite and a compound containing an active hydrogen and a functional group, thereby improving or providing the rubber or resin in or with such properties as adhesion, printability, dyeability, flame retardation, self-extinction, antistatic property, weatherproofing, adsorbency, ion-exchangeability and anti-permeability.
Abstract: Leather is coated on at least one face with a curable composition comprisingI. a polymercaptan containing at least two mercaptan groups per average molecule,Ii. a polyene having, per average molecule, at least two ethylenic double bonds, each .beta. to an atom of nitrogen, sulfur, or oxygen, the sum of the mercaptan groups in the polymercaptan and of such ethylenic double bonds in the polyene being more than 4, and the composition is then cured on the leather with or without the application of heat, optionally in the presence of a Bronsted acid, a Bronsted base, or a source of free radicals, as a curing accelerator. In this manner the leather is provided with a wearing or decorative surface having high gloss and smoothness, enhanced ease of cleaning, and decreased permeability to liquids.

Abstract: Resinous graft copolymers useful in adhesive formulations are prepared by polymerization of an alkoxystyrene with an olefinically unsaturated nitrile in a solution or dispersion of a rubber. The polymeric compositions can be applied to surfaces as a hot melt adhesive or solvent cement. Laminates formed with the resinous graft copolymers exhibit substantial lap shear strength.

Abstract: Dry leather is dyed with azoic dyes without wetting the leather with water by incorporating into the leather the required diazonium component and any required coupling component in a substantially non-aqueous volatile low-viscosity solvent and incorporating into the leather any other materials required for the coupling reaction in such a solvent or as a vapor. The coupling component can be a natural or synthetic phenolic tanning agent employed in tanning the leather. Dye patterns can be applied to the surface of the leather by using a light-sensitive diazonium component and photo-imaging the surface before effecting coupling. Dry leather is dyed by such processes without significant change in properties.
Abstract: An improved method of finishing leather by transferring a finish coating, at least the outer stratum of which comprises a thermoplastic, adhesive acrylic polymer, from a release layer bearing the finish coating to the leather. The leather to be coated (which may be supported on an appropriate backing layer) and the release layer are pressed into a sandwich-like assembly with the concurrent application of sufficient heat and pressure to transfer substantially the entire finish coating to the surfaces of the leather and the backing layer juxtaposed therewith. Transfer of the finish coating is effected without the application of any adhesive material or "tie coat" prior to pressing the coating into contact with the leather, by virtue of the thermoplastic, adhesive characteristics of the acrylic finish coating per se.The method may be carried out batch-wise employing discrete backing and release layers for the transfer of finish coatings to individual leather pieces.
