  • Patent number: 7588800
Abstract: A coating may be incorporated in a molded composite article made via a process in which neither the coating nor the resin contact the mold surface. A multilayer sandwich structure is formed having two outside layers of flexible membranes, typically made of silicon. An interior dissolvable film is disposed between the two outer flexible membranes. A layer of fiber reinforcement is disposed between the dissolvable film and one of the flexible membranes. A coating is distributed between a flexible membrane and the dissolvable film, opposite the side having the reinforcement, wherein the film is only slowly soluble, or insoluble, in the coating. The coating is allowed to at least partially cure and a resin is infused through the reinforcement wherein the dissolvable film rapidly dissolves in the resin. The sandwich structure is formed around a mold and the resin is allowed to cure.

Abstract: In a production process of a thin film laminate for constituting an organic EL element or the like, a thin film laminate is provided in which no water stays in a thin film formed of a hydrophilic material and, thus, the function of other thin films overlying the surface of the thin film, such as a luminescent layer, is not deteriorated. The thin film laminate comprises: a substrate; and, provided on the substrate in the following order, a first thin film and a second thin film. The first thin film is formed of a hydrophilic organic material. The hydrophilic organic material has hydrophilic groups which have been converted to lipophilic group. The lipophilic groups are partially or wholly returned to hydrophilic groups upon exposure to heat energy or a radiation. The second thin film is formed of a lipophilic organic material.

Abstract: A three dimensional molded article with a compound curvature having a composite wall with at least one contour having a depth to width ratio of at least about 0.2. The composite wall is formed of highly drawn thermoplastic tapes with thermoplastic films disposed on the outside of the tapes. The tapes have a highly drawn interior layer and exterior layers with a peak melting temperature below the peak melting temperature of the inner layer. The composite wall has a thickness of at least eight tapes which can be formed in layers of woven fabrics. The tapes are fused together and the film layers are fused to the exterior of the tapes. The films have inner surfaces that can fuse together, and outer surfaces that can fuse together. In this manner, when the film folds over itself in the molding process, the outer surface of the film bonds to itself and against the tapes to provide a smooth continuous layer.
