Patent number: 7312171Abstract: A structural material of a polystyrene base and the reaction product of the polystyrene base and a solid phosphate ceramic. The ceramic is applied as a slurry which includes one or more of a metal oxide or a metal hydroxide with a source of phosphate to produce a phosphate ceramic and a poly (acrylic acid or acrylate) or combinations or salts thereof and polystyrene or MgO applied to the polystyrene base and allowed to cure so that the dried aqueous slurry chemically bonds to the polystyrene base. A method is also disclosed of applying the slurry to the polystyrene base.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2005Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: Uchicago Argonne, LLCInventors: Arun S. Patent number: 7307123Abstract: A photocurable composition, including (a) a photocurable monomer, e.g. a cationically curable monomer and/or a radically curable monomer; (b) reactive particles comprising a crosslinked elastomeric core, e.g. made of polysiloxane material, and a shell of reactive groups on an outer surface of the core, wherein the reactive groups comprise epoxy groups, ethylenically unsaturated groups, or hydroxy groups; and (c) an appropriate photoinitiator, e.g. a radical photoinitiator; and a cationic photoinitiator. A method of making a 3-D object from such a composition and a 3-D object made by the method are also provided. The cured composition generally has a smooth surface. The use of the reactive particles makes the composition more stable and the particles do not readily separate out.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2003Date of Patent: December 11, 2007Assignee: Huntsman Advanced Materials Americas Inc.Inventors: David Johnson, John Wai Fong

Patent number: 7294380Abstract: Clear and opaque polymeric film structures for providing clear and opaque labels that are removable, respectively. The film structure includes a core layer and first skin layer, wherein the first skin layer contains a polymeric matrix of a material that allows a label, which has been produced from the film structure and applied onto a container or product, to be removed from the container or product by the solution employed in a process for re-using the container. The first skin layer is co-extruded along with the remainder of the layers of the film structure, or the first skin layer is deposited on the film structure as an emulsion or extrusion coating. The first skin layer can be contacted with a water-based adhesive to affix the label onto a particular product or product container. Labels produced from the film structure exhibit a desirable combination of excellent initial adhesion strength, moisture resistance and delaminatability, as well as excellent removability.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2004Date of Patent: November 13, 2007Assignee: ExxonMobil Oil CorporationInventors: Jo Ann H. Patent number: 7291400Abstract: The present invention improves a surface protective layer in the resistance to marring to the extent not achieved even if the surface protective layer is made of a crosslinked cured product of an ionizing radiation-curable resin and added with silica. When forming a layer comprising the crosslinked cured product of the ionizing radiation-curable resin as a surface protective layer (2) on a substrate sheet (1) made of paper or the like, fired kaolin is contained as a filler in the surface protective layer. The fired kaolin is preferably surface-treated with a silane coupling agent. On the substrate sheet (1), a wholly solid layer (3) and a pattern layer (4) are generally provided. A primer layer may be optionally provided between the substrate sheet and the surface protective layer.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2003Date of Patent: November 6, 2007Assignee: Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd.Inventor: Eiichiro Yokochi

Patent number: 7261935Abstract: The present invention provides a multi-layer polymer composition having a polar outer layer and a non-polar second outer layer. The polar outer layer is preferably PVC and the non-polar outer layer, polypropylene. The adhesive tie layer is a unique blend of a copolyester elastomer, a non-polar polymer, and a copolymer that contains functional groups capable of reaction with the functional end groups of the copolyester elastomer and that is totally or partially miscible with the non-polar polymer in the second outer layer. The multi-layer polymer can be advantageously coextruded. The non-polar outer layer can comprise the bulk of a fabricated part, with only a thin layer of polar polymer, providing desired attributes of the polar polymer at a lower cost.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2003Date of Patent: August 28, 2007Assignee: E.
