Patent number: 7914901Abstract: Structures and methods for hindering molded part deformation during densification are discussed. Such devices and techniques can help alleviate stresses that tend to result in part deformation during firing, sintering, or other densification processes, and thus reduce the need for secondary straightening operations post-densification. In some instances, a support structure is utilized to orient a molded greenbody in a preferred direction to reduce deformation during firing (e.g., orienting a thin tail section is a plane parallel to the direction of gravity). The support structure can also be part of, or the entirety of, a thermal mass to help alleviate stresses that lead to part deformation. Though such structures and methods can be used for any molded piece, it can be particularly used to create a portion, or an entirety of, a medical device such as a jaw of an surgical instrument.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2006Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc.Inventors: Nabeel Mark Jadeed, Charles Frank Benjey, Donald F. Patent number: 7052778Abstract: A cold forging process and apparatus for reinforcing an end of a rectangular tube, including a close fitting, rectangular upper mandrel that inserts into the tubing. The upper mandrel has flared corners at the end attached to the upper die. As the upper die is moved under pressure towards the lower die, the flared corners of the mandrel makes contact with the inner surface of the tube. This ensures that the tube begins to deform outward before the rest of the upper die contacts it. As the upper die is pressed towards contact with the lower die, the end of the tube is cold formed into a collar. The dies are then moved apart and the cold-formed tube removed. A lower mandrel positions and retains the die during forming. After forming the lower mandrel is used to eject the formed part, which may for instance be a trailer hitch housing.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2005Date of Patent: May 30, 2006Inventor: Eugene Angelo Sorgi

Plural bent portions, which are bent inward, are formed successively in an extending direction of the leg parts in a range from a crotch part toward pawl parts at front ends of the leg parts. The gap between the pawl parts are narrowed gradually from proximal ends to front ends thereof. Bulging portions are provided on outer side surfaces of the crotch part. Thus, the stabilization of the posture of a metallic coupling element, which is obtained by cutting the Y bar, at the time of mounting, strength of the coupling element and stabilization of the mounting posture of the coupling element to the fastener tape can be improved.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2004Date of Patent: July 5, 2005Assignee: YKK CorporationInventors: Toshio Aoki, Kunio Miyazaki, Manami Oono

Patent number: 6881494Abstract: A process for forming an initial section or like component featuring a hollow interior to a final shape by high internal pressure in the sealed hollow interior using a medium that can flow. In order to shape-form the initial section featuring at least one corner region—preferably at least two corner regions—the wall sections adjacent to the corner region are preshaped in a curved manner—as viewed in cross-section—counter to the direction of applied pressure, and subsequently re-shaped by applying the high internal pressure of the medium that can flow, displacing the corner region in the direction in which the pressure is applied. To that end a section with hollow space delimited by section walls is employed in which two section walls define each corner region of the section cross-section, whereby at least one of the section walls at the corner region features a region that is curved in cross-section.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2003Date of Patent: April 19, 2005Assignee: Alcan Technolgy & Management Ltd.Inventors: Markus Gehrig, Christian Leppin, Pius Schwellinger

Patent number: 6821640Abstract: A method for producing a bent extruded profile that includes extruding a first profile bar having a first lateral formation, extruding a second profile bar having a second lateral formation corresponding in a form-fitting manner to the first lateral formation, and inserting the first lateral formation into the second lateral formation so as to connect the first and second profile bars and to create a form-fitting connection restricting relative movement between the first and second profile bars in all directions except a longitudinal direction of the profile bars. The method also includes bending the connected first and second profile bars using a bending process, wherein after bending, the form-fitting connection restricts relative movement between the first and second profile bars in all directions. In addition, an extruded profile including a first profile bar having a first formation on a first longitudinal side and a second profile bar having a second formation on a second longitudinal side.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2003Date of Patent: November 23, 2004Assignee: Edscha Cabrio-Dachsysteme GmbHInventors: Heinz Wüllrich, Franz Haberl, Michael Rauscher

Patent number: 6677050Abstract: A process for connecting at least two components, particularly body components of motor vehicles, wherein the first component has an undercut on a side facing the second component. In the area of the undercut, a connection piece is cast to the first component. The connection piece is designed such that, during its solidification, the connection piece is firmly connected with the first component by the contraction of a last-solidifying core area of the connection piece. Then the second component is mounted on the connection piece.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2002Date of Patent: January 13, 2004Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Franz Guetlbauer, Hartmut Hoffmann, Arno Jambor, Volker Thoms
