    Abstract: A biaxially oriented polyester film includes at least three polyester resin layers A1/B/A2, and has a melting point in the range of 246 to 270° C. The major component of the layer A is polyethylene terephthalate and the stress at 100% elongation in the film's longitudinal direction and width direction at 150° C. and 200° C. meets the following equations: 2?(F100MD+F100TD)?100 and 1?F100TD?60. The film has a high dimensional stability at high temperatures to permit uniform metal deposition, suffers little change in appearance during thermoforming, and serves for easy production of formed parts that closely meet the shape of the die when subjected to low-stress forming.

    Abstract: A polymer film having a thickness of 10 microns or less and improved barrier characteristics to both water vapor and oxygen is formed from a biaxially-oriented polypropylene film of isotactic polypropylene. The polypropylene is prepared by the polymerization of propylene in the presence of an isospecific metallocene catalyst. The film has a permeability to water vapor of less than about 2.5 g/m2day/25 ?m and a permeability to oxygen of less than about 2200 cc/m2day/25 ?m. The film also has a haze properties of less than about 1%. The polypropylene contains 0.1 to 1% 2,1 insertions and has an isotacticity of at least 96% meso pentads. The isotactic polypropylene thus produced is then extruded into a sheet that is biaxially-oriented by stressing the sheet in the transverse and longitudinal directions to a draw ratio of at least about 6:1 in the transverse direction, and at least about 4:1 in the longitudinal direction.

The lighter weight extruded beta-nucleated sheet can also be stretched at higher line speeds, thereby reducing manufacturing costs.

Such films comprise a) at least one treated polymeric skin layer comprising butylene, and b) a metal layer deposited onto at least one surface of this polymeric skin layer. These films will preferably also exhibit a Water Vapor Transmission Rate of from about 0.05 to about 0.2 g/m2/24 hour, and an Oxygen Transmission Rate of from about 5.0 to about 20 cm3/m2/24 hour.

    Abstract: A biaxially oriented saturated polyester film made by a biaxial orientation method, includes a heat-seal side formed in at least one of two sides of the film, the heat-seal side being made by applying a low-temperature plasma treatment to a film surface so that the film surface has a composition ratio of the number of oxygen atoms to the number of carbon atoms, the composition ratio being not less than 105% and not more than 115% of a theoretical value and so that the heat-seal side is heat sealable at a heating temperature ranging from 100° C. to 200° C.
