Abstract: A fishing rod has a rod blank, and a line guide group attached to the rod blank for guiding a fishing line delivered from a reel to a top guide. The, line guide group is classified into a choke guide group configured with three choke guides and a tip guide group configured with a plurality of tip guides having a decreased height and diameter than the choke guides. Heights and diameters of the choke guides are set to draw one virtual cone shape in which the diameters are made to be circumferences. The heights and diameters of the tip guides are set to be all the same. Since the line is converged rapidly and smoothly, the tip guide group can have a combination of light guides having small diameter, thereby the entire weight can be saved greatly, and original ability of a rod can be brought out.

As an angler reels in a fish and the fishing line is in contact with one of the roller assemblies, the tension of the fishing line will cause a component of the roller assembly to rotate, thus greatly reducing any sliding friction between the fishing line and the line guide. The line guides can be a variety of sizes and the frames of the line guides can vary in shape and their mounting orientation relative to the fishing rod.

Therefore, the slipping resistance offered to the fishing line, in particular, the resistance at the time of slipping start is large, which adversely affects the flying of the fishing line at the time of surf casting and the feel of use.

Abstract: A tip to be placed on a fishing rod. Conventional fishing rods usually terminate in an “eye” or “roller” end on the fishing pole. A more proper term for the end attachment on a pole is a “terminal guide” rather than an “eye”. They are made in several sizes to fit various size shapes on fishing poles, however, they follow the industry standard of 64ths of an inch, i.e. a number four is {fraction (4/64)}ths inch hollow. A key innovation of the present invention is that it is conical (tapered) on the outside so that if the line did wrap around the tip, all that is necessary to get the line to unwrap is to hold the tip downward so gravity will unwrap the line as it peels off. The inside is hollow and shaped to fit the distal end of a fishing pole. Additionally, they are much thinner in cross section than all existing Terminal Guides that have an “eye” at the end.

A cushioning portion is formed between the guide and a body layer of the rod tube which is composed predominantly of axially-extending fibers, and cushioning portions are formed respectively at front and rear sides of the guide connected to the inner surface of the rod tube. The cushioning portions are smaller in bending modulus than a bulge portion region of the guide for contact with a fishline, and the inner surface is formed with a mirror-like smoothness.

Abstract: An oval fishing line guide includes a guide, guide holder, and at least one base. A guide area includes a substantially vertical slot which is preferably terminated on each end by a portion of an ellipse. The guide holder preferably retains the guide on the sides thereof. A bottom of the guide holder is attached to a top of the at least one base. A bottom of the at least one base is shaped to be received by an outside perimeter of the fishing rod. The at least one base is attached to the fishing rod with any suitable attachment method. The width of the guide area is varied for the type reel, position on the rod, and for type of water. A plurality of guides in ascending sizes are attached to the fishing rod. A second embodiment of an oval fishing line guide may be fabricated from a single stamped metal piece. A third embodiment of an oval fishing line guide utilizes an oval guide attached to a base. A fourth embodiment of an oval fishing line guide utilizes an oval guide attached to a guide holder.

  • Patent number: 6378240
Abstract: For line guides having a frame that includes two rear support legs on its sides, if the inclination of for the rear supporting legs is reduced by lengthening the rear support legs, then the material costs and weight of the frame are increased. Thus, the invention provides a line guide, wherein the length of a rear support leg of a frame for intermediate guides is made longer than the length of a front support leg and a front mounting foot. The front support leg and the front mounting foot are cut and bent out from an area surrounded by the rear support legs. The height of the front support leg is limited to approximately one-fourth (¼) of the outer diameter of a ring holding part. Therefore, due to the low height, it is hard for the line to get tangled, and the accuracy of casting increases. The line is easily released simply by lengthening the rear support leg to reduce the inclination of the rear support legs.

  • Patent number: 6334272
Abstract: The invention concerns a fishing rod in which a fishline is passed through the inside thereof. In the fishing rod, one of front and rear rod pipes to be connected together is provided with an enlarged diameter portion for receiving an outer periphery of the other rod pipe. Such enlarged diameter portion reduces a difference between the inside diameters of the front and rear rod pipes, to thereby eliminate the possibility that the fishline can be abutted against the end portion of the rod pipes. Thus, the frictional resistance of the fishline can be decreased, so that the fishline can be smoothly drawn into and out of the rod pipes.

Abstract: A variable fishing line action device is an integral unit intended to be clipped on a fishing rod mounting an open-face spinning reel, preferably, between the reel and a first eye of the rod. It comprises a generally hook shaped line rest portion adapted to receive and divert a fishing line emanating from an open-face spinning reel toward the rod mounting the reel and, a C-shaped clip portion adapted to selectively and adjustably secure the line rest to the fishing rod in front of the reel. The device may be selectively disposed along the length of the rod, between the reel and the first eye to impart the desired action to a fishing line. In its preferred embodiment, the C-shaped clip is comprised of two diverging legs, and the device is formed from a single length of rigid stainless steel wire. Resilient pad insulators may be disposed on the legs to protect the rod from scratching by the clip.
