  • Patent number: 12056951
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses, including computer programs encoded on a computer-readable storage medium for estimating the shape, size, and mass of fish are described. A pair of stereo cameras may be utilized to obtain right and left images of fish in a defined area. The right and left images may be processed, enhanced, and combined. Object detection may be used to detect and track a fish in images. A pose estimator may be used to determine key points and features of the detected fish. Based on the key points, a three-dimensional (3-D) model of the fish is generated that provides an estimate of the size and shape of the fish. A regression model or neural network model can be applied to the 3-D model to determine a likely weight of the fish.

  • Patent number: 9003689
Abstract: An improved cover for a pre-existing jig-type fishing lure comprises an elastomeric membrane which conceals a greater amount of the hard, weighted head of a pre-existing jig-type lure, as compared to prior art. One or more flap elements, a thin portion of the membrane located generally opposite a mount-enabling first aperture, a second aperture located generally opposite the mount-enabling first aperture, or a combination thereof, enables the improved cover to conceal more of the weighted head. The cover can be attached to or removed from the weighted head without having to break the line of an already-tied jig-type lure. The cover also enables fluttering fish attracting elements and the generation of acoustic stimuli while the lure itself remains stationary. The elastomeric membrane can further comprise a generally concave or flat surface to enable a pre-existing jig-type lure to exhibit an oscillating-type motion when retrieved.

Abstract: A fishing jig with a flexible shank allows a minnow on the fishing jig to swim free. This natural movement of the minnow entices a predator to feed while foraging. Predators not foraging are enticed into a reaction strike with the use of various types of terminal tackle, such as colored beads, blade spinners, turbo spinners and the like. The fish hooks and the jig head can be matched to meet the fishing conditions and type of fish being targeted. Prior to injection molding, the sponge is a dry compressed cellulose sponge. The sponge is coated with oil prior to injection molding. Pins or blades in the mold assembly position the oil-coated, compressed, cellulose sponge in the container portion of the bait. The pins or blades also define perforations in the container portion for fluid communication with the sponge. The oil coating on the compressed cellulose sponge prevents molten plastic from impregnating the sponge during the injection molding process. The oil coating does not cause the sponge to expand. After manufacture, a water-based fish attractant is introduced into and absorbed by the sponge via the perforations.

Abstract: A fishing lure includes a plurality of segments flexibly joined by a flexible line linkage to form a substantially linier array of segments. One or more fish hooks are secured to one or more of the segments. A fish line attachment is provided at the front most segment of the linier array. A plurality of angled slots are formed between each segment due to the spaced linier array. Each segment defines an internal buoyancy chamber and one or more vent apertures are provided which control the flow of water into the buoyancy chambers when the fishing lure is emerced. The lure provides a variety of travel paths and performance under the control of the user through manipulation of the attached fishing line.

Abstract: A fly-fishing fly and method of manufacturing the same are provided. The fly includes a unique abdomen. A method is provided for coloring and waterproofing the abdomen material, which allows it to transmit virtually all of the available light. The fly has a natural glow to it that is discernable to human eyes even after the sun has set. This fly represents a new approach to fly-fishing lures because it is substantially translucent and lifelike.

  • Patent number: 8230640
Abstract: A simulated fishing lure replicates the physical characteristics and swimming motion of a live North American mudpuppy, while preventing a captured fish from escaping by biting through the lure. The lure comprises of a lure body (a head, midsection and tail) and a motion-creating bill. The motion-creating bill and the lure body's tail work together to create the life-like side-to-side swimming motion of the lure. The longitudinal inner cavity within the midsection of the lure body contains an anchoring device to ensure that the fishing line and hook remain secured to the fish, even when the lure is bitten in half.

Abstract: An accessory for fishing lures of the type including strands of material camouflaging a hook is characterized by a disk formed of flexible material having a flat surface on one side and a tapered surface on the other side. The disk is positioned on the hook of the lure adjacent to a tying collar and extends the profile of the strands of material to provide a more realistic appearance of baitfish for the lure. With the flat surface of the disk adjacent to the tying collar of the lure, the profile of the strands is extended farther than when the disk is oriented with the tapered surface adjacent to the tying collar of the lure.

  • Patent number: 8181382
Abstract: A fishing lure that has realistic motion when retrieved from a cast is presented. The lure has three sections: a head section, a tail section, and a mid-section. The head and tail sections are formed to resemble the head and tail areas of live bait. The mid-section has a series of segments that are joined by connectors that allow the segments to move back and forth when water impacts on the sidewalls of the segments. The overall shape of the fishing lure in one embodiment is a shad baitfish. Other embodiments include the overall shape of a lizard, a waterdog salamander, a blue gill fish, a goby fish, or a snake or worm.

Abstract: Soft or pliable spinning appendages can be attached to a soft fishing lure using a swivel mechanism that provides unrestricted 360° rotation. The appendages increase attractiveness, flash, vibration, color, or scent. Due to their slow spinning speed and neutral buoyancy in water, the appendages provide unique properties to slow-moving lures not possible with prior art hard blades. A weedless swivel mechanism is also provided.
