    Abstract: A sintering furnace with a first zone, in particular a burn-off zone, and a second zone, in particular a sintering zone, and also a transitional zone arranged between the first zone and the second zone. The sintering furnace has at least one transporting mechanism for transporting bodies to be sintered on a transporting area. With this transporting mechanism, the bodies to be sintered can be transported from the first zone and through the transitional zone to the second zone. The sintering furnace also has at least one gas removal device with at least one gas removal device opening. Here, the gas removal device opening is at least partially arranged in the region of the transitional zone. Furthermore, a method by access of which gases can be removed from a sintering furnace is claimed.

    Abstract: A method for producing a lightweight aggregate by treating flyash and sewage sludge. The flyash and sewage sludge are mixed together and agglomerated into pellets. The pelletized agglomerate is fed into a rotary kiln in a direction that is co-current with the flow of fuel and air through the kiln. The rotary kiln includes at least one port air zone near the infeed end of the rotary kiln to introduce port air beneath the bed of pelletized agglomerate feed stock flowing through the rotary kiln. The introduction of port air beneath the material bed causes the volatized combustible matter to burn in the bed of material, which oxidizes the outer shell of the pelletized agglomerate. As the pelletized agglomerate continues to travel through the rotary kiln, bloating occurs within the interior of the material and results in the formation of the lightweight aggregate material.

    Abstract: A non-oxidizing firing furnace for ceramic articles, which comprises a furnace chamber filled with a non-oxidizing gas, a conveyor mechanism provided on the floor portion of the furnace chamber and adapted to move the ceramic articles oppositely to a direction in which the non-oxidizing gas is flown through the furnace chamber for firing the ceramic articles; and at least one partition wall with the surface being composed of molybdenum which partition wall is provided at the ceiling portion of the furnace chamber to define a low temperature zone on the inlet side for the ceramic articles and a high temperature zone.

    Abstract: A continuous electric tunnel furnace includes a tunnel through which articles to be fired are passed in a direction of feed. The tunnel has a length portion constituting a sintering zone. Nitrogen is introduced into the tunnel at the outlet thereof. The nitrogen stream is oriented against the direction of feed. There is further provided a gate projecting from the tunnel roof into the tunnel in the sintering zone in an orientation transverse to the direction of feed. The gate has opposite lateral bounding edges which are spaced from respective side walls of the tunnel.

    Abstract: The axial fluid flow fan comprises a shaft, an impeller mounted on said shaft comprising a tankhead and a plurality of blades, a drive means attached to the shaft for rotating the impeller and a deflector having a bugle bell shape defined by a small diameter, a large diameter and a radius of curvature joining the diameters. The deflector is positioned downstream of the fan and slightly spaced from the impeller to separate the fluid coming off the impeller into at least two annular flow areas. The fan is part of a plug unit for a heat treating furnace in which the deflector is positioned about a frustoconical shaped shield which protects the shaft. The flow area downstream of the impeller is divided into equal areas. An extension plate in the furnace cooperates with the deflector to maintain the split areas of flow.

    Abstract: A recuperative heating system has a heat conductive chimney flue; a fuel combustion chamber exhausting hot waste gases and smoke upwardly through the flue; coaxial ducts about the flue, defining a fresh air flow path downwardly from a cool air intake along the outer duct and upwardly along the inner duct into direct heat exchange relationship with the outer surface of the flue and exhausting outwardly from the inner duct into a warm air room vent; and a plurality of U-shaped conduit tubes, each having its bight within the flue. The legs of each U-shaped tube are of different lengths with the inlet end on the longer leg opening into the outer duct and the outlet end on the shorter leg opening into the inner duct.
