  • Patent number: 11042798
Abstract: Certain embodiments involve learning features of content items (e.g., images) based on web data and user behavior data. For example, a system determines latent factors from the content items based on data including a user's text query or keyword query for a content item and the user's interaction with the content items based on the query (e.g., a user's click on a content item resulting from a search using the text query). The system uses the latent factors to learn features of the content items. The system uses a previously learned feature of the content items for iterating the process of learning features of the content items to learn additional features of the content items, which improves the accuracy with which the system is used to learn other features of the content items.

In one embodiment, the present invention displays training data comprising situational, variable, and response data relating to a particular training session upon a graphic user interface for review by a trainee. In one embodiment, the training data may be accessed and amended electronically by trainer personnel. Images, graphics and/or animations may be presented to the user in conjunction with the training data to enhance the effectiveness of the interactive training experience. The trainee may be prompted to enter a response indicating his or her choice of the proper response to the displayed training data. The entered response may be stored for future use and compared to feedback data indicating which of the displayed response choices are correct.

Abstract: An essay is analyzed automatically by accepting the essay and determining whether each of a predetermined set of features is present or absent in each sentence of the essay. For each sentence in the essay a probability that the sentence is a member of a certain discourse element category is calculated. The probability is based on the determinations of whether each feature in the set of features is present or absent. Furthermore, based on the calculated probabilities, a sentence is chosen as the choice for the discourse element category.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods and systems for teaching and assessing a set of targets to a student, particularly in the field of literacy. One application of the invention is in teaching sound-symbol relationships. The invention using a rapid learning system, whereby each target is associated with a completion score and a student score. A student is prompted to identify a particular target (from a number of options). When the student correctly identifies a target, the student score is incremented until it reaches a completion score. The student score is decremented for incorrect responses. A support mechanism (e.g. a mnemonic) may be provided to the student—as a student shows increased proficiency, the level of support is reduced. This may be done by “morphing” the mnemonic into a standard representation of the target. Associated methods and systems are also disclosed.

Abstract: The system of the present invention provides interactive spaced education and combines the pedagogical merits of the spacing effect and the testing effect to improve a learner's ability to learn and retain conceptual items. A test item, such as a question or educational material regarding a concept, is delivered, a learner's response is recorded, and the correct answer to the test item is provided. Future delivery of additional test items is customized with regard to its content, difficulty, and time interval based on information from the learner's response(s). The electronic delivery includes a structured repetition over spaced intervals of time as well as retesting the learner with subsequent test items based on new levels of difficulty, new delivery intervals, and new content areas. The present invention, by combining spaced education with adaptive learning, improves the learner's ability to learn, recall, and retain items of information.

Abstract: A system is provided for the validation of training by a validation authority of trainees located at remote locations. The training is delivered to the trainees electronically by the validation authority, generally, over the Internet. The training generally includes a theoretical component and a practicum. The practicum comprises the application of forces by the trainees on a mannequin such as in the case of CPR training or therapeutic massage training. The theoretical component of the training session is completed by the trainees on-line and the trainees are examined on-line. Examination results are transmitted to the verification authority. During the practicum examination, a mannequin is provided that is instrumented to measure forces applied by the trainees creating a dataset. The dataset is transmitted to the verification authority for comparison with therapeutically correct values. The verification authority will generate a pass or fail signal.
