Abstract: The present invention is directed to use of an imidazo [4,5b] pyridinium molecule composed of a lysine and an arginine residue crosslinked with a pentose sugar for assessing the biological age of a tissue.
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for the colorimetric determination of NADH by means of enzymatic oxidation with benzyl alcohol dehydrogenase whereby an aromatic nitrosoaniline compound of the general formula I is reduced to a colored quinone diimine ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 denotes hydrogen, halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylthio, arylthio, alkyl or alkylene substituted if desired by carboxy, PO.sub.3 H.sub.2, dialkylphosphinyl or SO.sub.3 H, amino substituted if desired once or twice by alkyl which in turn can be substituted if desired by hydroxy, PO.sub.3 H.sub.2, SO.sub.3 H or carboxy and R denotes a residue which forms a color by electron conjugation with a quinone diimiine system. The invention also concerns a corresponding agent as well as a chromogenic nitroso compound of formula I as well as its use for the enzymatic colorimetric determination of an analyte.
Abstract: In the method for the determination of water, the sample is admixed with a molar 1:1 adduct of sulphur dioxide with an amine having a pK.sub.A of more than 6, dissolved in an aprotic solvent, and is oxidized with iodine.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for selecting and analyzing a subpopulation of cells or cell objects for a certain parameter such as DNA using image analysis means. The cells are first stained with an alkaline phosphatase technique including a monoclonal antibody specific to a protein in at least one of the cell's cytoplasm or on a cell membrane, thereby marking any cells including the protein as to type. A second staining of the DNA in the nucleus is accomplished by a Feulgen technique that destroys the cell cytoplasm. After the staining and marking, the cells may then be gated using the image analysis means on the visual parameter such as colored DNA or colored antigen into a subpopulation that is to be measured. The selected cells may then be examined by digital image processing and measured for a parameter such as a true actual measurement of DNA in picograms. A quantitation of the measured parameter may be generated and provided.
Abstract: Novel water-soluble methylenebis(dialkylaniline) derivatives of the following general formula and salts thereof are disclosed. They are useful as dye-forming substances in quantitative determination of peroxides in the copresence of peroxidase or the like. ##STR1## In the formula, R.sub.1 is hydrogen or a substituent selected from lower alkyl and C.sub.2-3 sulfoalkyl or hydroxysulfoalkyl; R.sub.2 is C.sub.2-3 sulfoalkyl or hydroxysulfoalkyl; and R.sub.3 is lower alkyl.

Abstract: Primary and secondary amines in biological fluids are selectively derivitized by reaction with esters of N-hydroxysuccinimide or N-hydroxysulfosuccinimide to form an N-acylated derivative. Those N-acylated derivatives may then be extracted into a polar organic phase and extracted. Non-electroactive amines may be made suitable for coulometric analysis by selecting the ester used so as to attach an electroactive group to the amine. For example, histamine may be reacted with the Bolton-Hunter reagent to form a suitable derivative in high yield.

Abstract: A gas dosimeter utilizing a colorimetric reagent for the selective determination of total amines in solution or in air is described. The reagent comprises 1,2 napthoquinone-4-sulfonic acid or a derivative thereof. Upon addition of amines, a color is formed which is quantitatively related to the number of amine molecules reacted. The reagent can be utilized to detect aromatic amines apart from primary amines by the addition of a buffering agent to maintain the pH less than 4.5.
Abstract: The present invention describes a method where, by using gentian violet as a tracer substance, the concentration of one or more selected components or factors of a complete animal feedstuff may be monitored throughout the life of the feed whether at the mill, in transit or at the place of its end use. In one embodiment, the method may be used to determine quickly whether any separation of components has occurred thereby destroying the homogeneity of the feedstuff and potentially endangering the animals to which the feedstuff is provided.
Abstract: A method of determining affective illness (i.e. mood disorders) involves serological testing. The serotonin uptake of the patient's blood platelets is determined and compared with a standard blood platelet serotonin uptake characteristic of a particular type of affective illness to determine the patient's type of affective illness. A method of treating a patient having a particular affective illness is provided which includes treating the patient with an effective amount of at least one drug which is effective in treating persons having the same blood platelet serotonin uptake as the patient.
