  • Publication number: 20110306269
Abstract: A spinner for a toy top enables a launching position of a toy top to be easily set and held in place even when a rack belt is vigorously pulled out. The spinner includes an elongated rack belt having a rack gear, and a spinner main body formed with an insertion hole through which the rack belt is inserted. The spinner main body includes a toy top mounting part rotatably provided on one surface thereof. Inside the spinner main body, a rotating mechanism that is actuated by pulling out the rack belt to impart a rotational force to the toy top mounting part is provided. The rack belt can be inserted into and pulled out from the insertion hole in a same direction an axis of rotation of the toy top mounting part.

  • Patent number: 6503121
Abstract: An improved aerial top, or yo-yo, having a stepped axle and a varied diameter tether is disclosed. The stepped axle is coupled at distal ends to yo-yo body halves and maintains the yo-yo body halves in a space apart arrangement and defines a channel between the body halves. The stepped axle has distal end portions having relatively large diameters and a central axle portion having a relatively smaller diameter. The stepped axle may be provided with intermediate axle portions having intermediate sized diameters. Sidewalls separate the axle portions and the sidewalls may be orthogonal to surfaces of the axle portions, or oblique thereto. A tether is wound onto the stepped axle and a user uses a throwing motion while the tether is connected to the user's finger, to throw the yo-yo so that the yo-yo unwinds the tether. The tether is a cord having a varied diameter along its length.

  • Patent number: 6213838
Abstract: A metal yo-yo embodies a construction in which each of the halves of the yo-yo body is formed from a disc and a hub that are made separately and secured to each other in an integral structure. The discs can be die cut from sheet material and may be deformed about the peripheral margin to define a dished configuration. The hub is inserted into the center hole of the disc and the two are assembled together in a swaging operation that constricts the metal of the disc about a portion of the hub. A pair of such yo-yo halves are connected together by an axle assembly that includes a bearing to facilitate extended spin time for the yo-yo. The yo-yo construction and method of fabrication provides substantial economies in the manufacture of metal yo-yos.

  • Patent number: 6146233
Abstract: Disclosed herein are spinning tops having an improved pull-string attachment system. The pull-string has a toothed catch at one end that engages with a cylindrical hub of the top. The hub is at the center of a deep radial groove transverse to the top's axis of rotation in which the pull-string is wound. When the top is thrown and the pull-string is pulled, the catch smoothly disengages so that the pull-string releases cleanly from the top. Replaceable tips are also provided.

  • Patent number: 5506459
Abstract: A magnetically balanced spinning apparatus having an upright rotating shaft assembly that is balanced by circumscribing magnets is disclosed. The rotating shaft assembly is constructed from a single shaft with at least two magnets mounted thereon in a spaced apart relationship. The rotating shaft assembly is balanced on a pivot point at the bottom and spins on a weight bearing surface. A frame having side support magnets generally circumscribes the rotating shaft assembly wherein the support magnets and the rotating magnets of the rotating shaft assembly react to repel each other thereby balancing the rotating shaft assembly in a vertical orientation, and simultaneously levitating the rotating shaft assembly to minimize the effects of gravity thereon.

  • Patent number: 5020798
Abstract: A game kit organization includes a plurality of spinning tops, the spinning top includes a generally conical lower surface, a medial annular surface, and a convex upper surface for reception of a string to be wound about the convex upper surface to effect rotation of each top. The tops are sequentially spun by opponents to effect impact between opposing spinning tops. A modification of the invention includes projections selectively securable to the annular band to provide variations of impact between opposing tops, as well as providing for selectively securable projections mounted within the annular band to effect relative states of imbalance and impart desired wobble to opposing tops to vary a pathway of opposing tops to add a level of chance in effecting impact as noted above.
