Patent number: 7235002Abstract: A method and system for making glass sheets is provided. At least one grinding wheel is provided for grinding a lateral edge of a glass sheet. An airbag and corresponding air pressure regulator are provided for biasing the grinding wheel against the lateral edge of the glass sheet being ground. In certain example embodiments, the airbag is advantageous in that it permits the grinding wheel to be biased against the lateral edge of the glass sheet with a substantially constant pressure, where this pressure does not substantially fluctuate due to small changes in the location of the edge of the passing glass.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2006Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: Guardian Industries Corp.Inventor: Thomas E. Patent number: 7029371Abstract: A jig is structured to guide a grinder along the inner surface of the base or cover of a combustion turbine. The jig includes a base having a bottom surface with a plurality of rollers arranged in substantially the same radius as the portion of the casing being repaired. Side rollers locate the base horizontally during movement. A top platform may restrain the base vertically by supporting a pivot block that bears against the rotor of the turbine. The grinder may be moved vertically or horizontally with respect to the base upon which it is secured.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2005Date of Patent: April 18, 2006Assignee: Siemens Power Generation, Inc.Inventor: Derek A. Patent number: 7018272Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus for grinding or polishing at least one edge of a glass substrate. The apparatus includes an air bearing support member configured to pivot about an axis of rotation with zero frictional resistance opposing said pivotal movement. A grinding unit is coupled to the air bearing support member. The grinding unit is configured to apply a predetermined force normal to the at least one edge to remove a predetermined amount of material from the at least one edge. The predetermined force is directly proportional to the predetermined amount of material and less than a normal force resulting in glass substrate breakage.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2003Date of Patent: March 28, 2006Assignee: Corning IncorporatedInventors: Roger A. Allaire, James W. Brown, Toshihiko Ono, Babak R. Raj, Masayuki Shinkai

Patent number: 7014544Abstract: A reciprocating and deflecting swing device for the roller of a cylindrical emery-polishing machine includes a motor fixing base having its inner side provided with a lower holder engaged thereon with an upper holder, with an emery-tape roller fitted in the upper holder. A shaft-coupling unit is connected between the shaft of a motor and the emery-tape roller. A speed-reducing device is installed with the motor fixing base, having an input terminal connected to the shaft-coupling unit by a belt. A rod-connecting unit is pivotally provided between the speed-reducing device and the upper holder. Power of the motor is transmitted to the emery-tape roller and the speed-reducing device respectively by the shaft-coupling unit and the belt. The rod-connecting unit is driven to actuate the upper holder and the emery-tape roller to swing to and fro biasly.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2004Date of Patent: March 21, 2006Assignee: WMH Tool Group Hong Kong LimitedInventor: Alan Huang

Patent number: 6981907Abstract: One or more high angle grinding units are supported by a carriage mountable on the underside of a rail grinding vehicle. Each grinding unit is attached to the carriage in a manner enabling controllable movement of the grinding units laterally, vertically, and angularly, with respect to the rails, so that a grinding stone rotated by the grinding unit can be operated to grind between a railhead and a closely adjacent rail structure to reform the gauge side of the railhead and the field side of the closely adjacent structure.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2004Date of Patent: January 3, 2006Assignee: RailWorks CorporationInventors: Richard Korinek, Victor Jaugilas, William G. Patent number: 6602120Abstract: An edge grinding unit for machines for working the edges of plates in general and of glass sheets in particular comprising at least at one rim of a plate being worked, a grinding wheel which is accommodated in a carousel element provided with a rotatable cage formed by a plurality of circumferentially distributed rollers. The edge grinding unit further comprising an arm for supporting the grinding wheel which provides, for the grinding wheel, a first oscillation axis and a second oscillation axis which are spaced one another and are substantially perpendicular to the advancement plane of the plate.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2001Date of Patent: August 5, 2003Assignee: Z. Patent number: 6468140Abstract: A swinging device for a sanding device, is disclosed. The swinging device has a swinging element, having mounted with a bi-axle motor, mounted to a sanding module, and the bi-axle motor synchronously drives a driving structure mounted to the swinging element, and the driving structure is provided with a shaft rod having an eccentric post, and the eccentric post is mounted to a limiting rod of the sanding module for limiting purpose, thus, when the bi-axle motor is initiated, the shaft rod is synchronously driven, and the eccentric post is used for limiting purpose. The entire swinging device causes the sanding module to produce a reciprocating swinging, and the sanding belt produces a tangential sanding effect.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2000Date of Patent: October 22, 2002Inventor: Chun-Hsiang Wang

Patent number: 6277004Abstract: The phase adjusting method is a method for holding a work including an end face formed symmetrical with respect to the axis of the work and a plurality of recesses respectively formed in a concave manner from the end face and also for positioning the position of each of the recesses around the axis of the work. Specifically, in the phase adjusting method, while holding the work in such a manner that it can be rotated around the axis thereof, the position of each of the recesses around the axis is detected. In accordance with the thus detected position of the recess around the axis, there is obtained a rotation angle by which the work is rotated around the axis thereof in such a manner the recess can be positioned at a given position around the axis of the work. And, based on the thus obtained rotation angle, the work is rotated around the axis thereof to position the recess at a given position around the axis of the work to thereby position the work.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1999Date of Patent: August 21, 2001Assignee: NSK Ltd.Inventors: Yasutami Matsumoto, Tohru Sakaguchi
