Patent number: 11649635Abstract: Vents are disclosed for covering openings on roofs. The disclosed vents cover openings on metal roofs and prevent moisture and objects from entering the opening while allowing air to pass therethrough. The vents disclosed herein also prevent moisture from entering the building through openings that can be created when the vents are attached to a roof. The vents include a cap, a collar, and a flashing configured to contact the roof. The vents can also include a screen placed between the cap and the collar. The collar can have arms formed on an upper portion thereof to facilitate connection of the collar to the cap. Feet can be formed on a bottom portion of the collar. Once the vent is fully assembled, the feet can be positioned underneath the flashing and can be the main connection point of the vent to a roof. Due to the design of this assembly, fasteners pass through the feet providing a sound and secure attachment to the roof.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2020Date of Patent: May 16, 2023Assignee: Golden Rule Fasteners, Inc.Inventors: William Archie McDow, Jr., David Campbell McDow

Patent number: 6582297Abstract: A livestock facility exhaust system to remove a majority of the dust and other such odorous airborne particulate material from air exhausted by power ventilation equipment from a livestock confinement building and without a significant increase in static pressure within the ventilation system. This is accomplished by a free standing enclosure of high strength air permeable material supported by a hoop structure around the exhaust end of the containment building of the livestock facility. Exhausted air enters the enclosure and is temporarily contained therein. Air circulates around impaction surfaces in the enclosure that promote precipitation of airborne particulates from the air stream. A discharge opening is located at or near the top of the enclosure. Exhaust air rid of most of the airborne particulates moves upward and out through the opening. The enclosure also serves to deflect outside wind from the fan orifices which helps to maintain fan performance.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2002Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: Baumgartner Environics, Inc.Inventors: John W. Patent number: 5816288Abstract: A protective vent for a water storage tank having an inner flexible fine mesh screen and an outer heavier more rigid screen with a wider mesh. Both screens are mounted on a frame structure under an extending upper protective cover. Air from the water tank can communicate with ambient air after passing through the two screens. The outer screen acts to protect the tank and the inner screen from birds, grasshoppers and large insects while the flexible wrinkled inner screen protects against frost and smaller insects entering the tank. Fiberglass may be used for the fine inner screen and galvanized hardware cloth for the outer screen. The vent is constructed to be mounted over an existing vent stack from the storage tank. On those water storage tanks whose venting capacity is no longer adequate and an increase in air flow is desired, a new larger diameter vent stack can be installed in place of the existing smaller stack with this protective vent system.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1997Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Inventor: Clyde H. Patent number: 5803805Abstract: A ventilating device for a home or other building includes a frame for covering a ventilating opening in the structure. The frame defines a passage for communicating the ventilating opening to the atmosphere. The passage contains a freely movable valve member which normally rests in an inactive position under gravitational force to permit venting through the passage. Patent number: 5655964Abstract: This static ventilator is made with three parts: 1) a hollow housing, triangular shaped with circumferential sidewalls and louvers attached to the outside walls, 2) a triangular shaped base fixed to the roof and 3) a cap at the top. The hollow housing is the part that actually does the ventilation. Each of its louvers is inclined downwards and out and comes with a piece of filter material preventing anything from entering the vent openings and allowing the air to circulate. The triangular shape of the hollow housing allows the wind to slide laterally along each side of the ventilator and prevents any snow or debris accumulation at the base and on the louvers of the ventilator. In order to secure the hollow housing to the roof surface, a triangular shaped piece serves as a base where the hollow housing is inserted. This base also lets the condensed water flow out of the hollow housing. The cap seals the hollow housing and prevents anything from falling straight into the ventilator.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1995Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Inventors: Andre Rheault, Guy Proulx, Raymond Maisonneuve

Patent number: 5435780Abstract: A skylight (10) having a roof portion (12) with a plurality of ventilating tabs (61) and a plurality of non-ventilating tabs (62) disposed substantially parallel to and spaced above a roof (31) of a building. The ratio of ventilating tabs (61) to non-ventilating tabs (62) can be altered to alter the flow of air through the skylight. The disposition of the ventilating tabs (61) assists the draw of air through the skylight (10) and inhibits ingress of debris and water.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1994Date of Patent: July 25, 1995Inventor: Paul N. Patent number: 5421776Abstract: An exhaust air hood has a tubular body and at least one plate member having a chamber inside thereof. The plate member has a planar configuration including widths gradually decreasing toward two longitudinal ends of the plate member, the chamber having an opening at each longitudinal end of the plate member. The exhaust air hood discussed is capable of reducing backflows through exhaust air ports caused by wind pressure, thus enabling a proper ventilation system to be achieved.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1993Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Assignee: Ube Trading Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Sakamoto, Junzou Douken

Patent number: 5078047Abstract: There is provided in combination with a building roof over an air space requiring forced ventilation of solar energy heated air from the space through a vent hole in the roof, an electrically operated exhaust fan mounted in air exhausting relation on the roof and over the vent hole, and a solar panel for supplying electrical power to a fan driving motor when exposed to solar rays. Air exhaust passage through the device includes a backwash turbulence preventing ring-shape plate extending between a supporting ring body which is of smaller diameter than an exhaust air directing hood on which the solar panel is mounted, and a ring channel member supporting the exhaust fan in a manner to draw the exhaust air through the ring channel into the hood.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1990Date of Patent: January 7, 1992Assignee: Taurus Safety Products, Inc.Inventor: Joseph W.
