  • Patent number: 8244171
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for providing recommended radio stations to a user. In particular, an electronic device can compare media from a locally stored or accessed media library with media items provided as part of radio streams received by the device. The electronic device can identify the radio streams having the most media items overlapping with the local library, and recommend those streams as being most likely to be of interest to the user. The electronic device can further access a remote database of a large number of users' libraries, and receive recommendations based on the media items common to the user's library, other users' libraries, and radio broadcasts. This approach allows the electronic device to provide recommendations without requiring any monitoring of the user's listening habits or receiving preference information from the user.

Abstract: A network includes a service provider, a plurality of transmitters and a receiving device. The receiving device identifies the frequencies at which broadcast services are provided by a transmitter local to the receiving device. A search is carried out until a signal is received by the receiving device (S4.1). Then, the receiving device looks-up the transmitter (step S4.2). This involves searching the table 29 and identifying the row 30 that includes data corresponding to the frequency of the found signal. Optionally, it is determined whether or not there is only one candidate transmitter (step S4.3), by determining how many rows 30 in the table 29 include data corresponding to the frequency of the found signal. If there is more than one row, then the transmitter is disambiguated (step S4.4.).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for selecting alternate channels for broadcast radio channels, and for tracking alternate channel selections, are provided. Some radio systems provide alternate frequencies for tuned radio frequencies to use when the tuned radio frequency signal is no longer receivable. In aspects of the present invention, historical information is generated from alternate channel switching attempts. In further aspects, the generated historical information is used to aid in making a subsequent switch to an alternate channel.

Abstract: Current position information is acquired based on input by an inputting unit. A broadcasting station memory stores, for each region and for each genre, data regarding a frequency of an existing broadcasting station. A reception frequency is determined based on the current position information and on the frequency of the broadcasting station for each genre at the current position acquired referring to the data of the broadcasting station memory.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for customizing radio presets. The radio presets can be customized based on one or more of geographic location and user preferences. For example, radio presets bookmarking particular radio frequencies can be associated with a particular location. When a user device is in the particular location, the associated radio frequencies can be used to populate “hot keys.” In some embodiments, if radio presets are not available for a particular location, recommended radio presets can be determined by, for example, comparing radio station information with user preferences. This radio station information can include, for example, a listing of available radio stations, the genre of these radio stations, and radio station names. User preferences can include, for example, preferred songs, preferred radio stations, preferred radio shows, and preferred genres. Recommended radio presets can be determined by identifying available radio stations that match the user preferences.

Abstract: Disclosed is a channel estimator and a method for changing a coefficient of an IIR filter depending on a moving speed of a mobile communication terminal. In the channel estimator, a coefficient changing unit receives I and Q signals from a current base station, and selects a coefficient of the IIR filter optimized depending on the moving speed of the current mobile communication terminal. The coefficient changing unit sets the selected coefficient of the IIR filter to the IIR filter of the channel estimator. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the performance degradation of the channel estimator caused by the speed of the mobile communication terminal.

Abstract: The present invention utilizes station preset buttons on a radio frequency receiver to allow the user to browse through the various subchannels included in a single station or channel. The preset buttons still have the standard function of having a frequency and subchannel selection parameter associated with the button that can be used to directly select that subchannel. But subsequent presses of the button may change the currently playing program to a different program contained in the same station or channel using a circular queue ordering.

Abstract: An offset history table is implemented and maintained in a BLUETOOTH device and is used to pre-seed an expected frequency offset of a received signal from another BLUETOOTH device. The disclosed offset history table includes one entry for each piconet device in a particular piconet, each entry including a best guess of the relevant piconet device's frequency offset with respect to the receiving BLUETOOTH device. Using a frequency offset history table and a pre-seeded frequency offset corresponding to an expected frequency offset based on the offset value maintained in the frequency offset history table, the performance of a BLUETOOTH device can be increased in a steady state piconet scenario.
