  • Patent number: 9485746
Abstract: Techniques are presented to optimize location classification accuracy for wireless devices. A controller in communication with one or more wireless access points receives measurement data associated with signals received at one or more wireless access points from a plurality of wireless clients. The controller classifies each of the measurement data associated with a corresponding client as indicative a location inside of a particular region or outside of the particular region. The controller determines information of an actual location for each of the clients and classifies the information of the actual location as indicating a location inside of the particular region or outside of the particular region. For a given client whose classification of the information of the actual location does not match the classification of the corresponding measurement data, the controller modifies the information of the actual location of the given client.

Abstract: A wireless communication system wirelessly receives a Frequency Modulation (FM) signal including audio data and Radio Data System (RDS) data. The wireless communication system audibly plays the audio data and graphically displays the RDS data from the FM signal. The wireless communication system detects action codes in the RDS data, and in response, initiates a wireless communication session with a wireless communication network. The wireless communication system also audibly captures user data. The wireless communication system then wirelessly transfers the captured user data for delivery to a server over the wireless communication session.

  • Patent number: 9055588
Abstract: A decentralized approach to peer discovery channel selection is used in some embodiments. In some such embodiments, a mobile wireless terminal supporting a peer to peer signaling protocol, independently determines what channels to use for peer discovery without a central controller indicating the channel or channels to be used. Assuming channels are of a suitable quality, the channels having the best quality need not be identified, with channel selection being made on a predetermined channel ordering basis from those with suitable quality. Different wireless communications devices in the system use the same peer discovery channel selection process making it likely that the same channel or channels will tend to be picked to be used for peer discovery. Other embodiments are directed to implementing a centralized approach to peer discovery channel selection in which a central controller or base station selects channels to be used for peer discovery signaling.

  • Patent number: 8577317
Abstract: A broadcast receiver and a method for setting the broadcast receiver, comprising receiving a primary broadcast sent by a broadcast station and retrieving program associated data made available by said broadcast station. The method comprises a first channel, a primary broadcast channel BC, and a second channel, an interaction channel, for retrieving the program associated data (PAD) from the broadcast station, whereby a browser sends an HTTP or a WAP request using an Internet connection. The method comprises retrieving a uniform resource locator of the program associated data (PAD) as station associated data (SAD) from a station associated data site (SADS) the station associated data comprising program associated data relating to the primary broadcast, coverage information and frequency information of included broadcast stations and the broadcast receiver being capable of setting the browser and the broadcast receiver unit by suing this SAD information.

  • Patent number: 8577315
Abstract: Operating a radio receiver can include identifying a set of stations that broadcast a radio program using different frequencies or different transmission protocols at substantially the same time. Broadcast signal strength, or some other signal quality metric, of broadcast signals from the stations can be evaluated, and the radio receiver can be tuned to one of the stations in the set of stations based on the evaluation.

  • Patent number: 8548408
Abstract: A method of operating a single-tuner radio includes tuning into a first frequency. A pause in a first signal associated with the first frequency is detected. Tuning is switched from the first frequency to a second frequency during the pause. Fieldstrength, multipath, adjacent channel energy, frequency offset and FM modulation for the second frequency are measured. Tuning is switched from the second frequency to the first frequency. Tuning is switched from the first frequency to the second frequency dependent upon the measuring step.

  • Publication number: 20130231070
Abstract: A system and method for assigning received channels to preset tuning keys of a receiver. A series of preset keys are sequentially labeled and one preset key, such as the preset key marked “0,” is a pre-defined preset key. An elongated pressing of the pre-defined key causes the currently tuned channel, if it is not assigned to a preset key, to be assigned to an unassigned preset key. If the currently tuned channel is already assigned to a preset key, pressing the pre-defined key instead causes the currently selected channel to be un-assigned from that preset key. Radios with two tuners that each process different sets of radio signals assign channels for a particular tuner to alternating preset keys, allowing acceleration of sequentially selecting channels assigned to pre-set keys by pre-tuning another tuner to the next channel in the sequence.
