  • Patent number: 8175513
Abstract: A method is presented for providing information associated with a geographical area to users of broadcast communication receivers. The information, as well as an indication of the geographical area associated with the information, are transmitted to, and received by, each of the broadcast communication receivers. In each of the receivers, the indication of the geographical area is compared with a geographic code associated with, and stored within, the receiver. Each of the receivers also provides at least one alert to a user of the respective broadcast communication receiver if the geographic area is located on a travel vector of the respective broadcast communication receiver indicated by the geographical code.

  • Patent number: 8165142
Abstract: A method and apparatus supporting the handling of multimedia information using simulcasting using a broadband access gateway are disclosed. A broadband access gateway supporting both a personal area network and a broadband network may receive multimedia information during exchanges between access devices over a wireless wide area network. The wireless wide area network may intercept multimedia information, and may, for example, determine that the access device of the recipient is incompatible with the multimedia information. The wide area network may then redirect the multimedia information to a broadband access gateway that may cause the storage of the received multimedia information. In another representative embodiment of the present invention, the wide area network may adapt intercepted multimedia information to be compatible with the access device of the recipient, and may also redirect the original intercepted multimedia information to a broadband access gateway.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, method and computer program product for providing a user of a terminal with broadcast services. A terminal controller is configured to use data forming the whole of or part of an electronic service guide, and store information concerning the accessibility of services. That information is used to then generate a list of selectable services available to the user. A user interface presents at least part of the list in a selectable manner. Service accessibility display options are included either as a setting in the terminal or as a user input. Subscribed services are presented to the user on a display differently than non-subscribed services. If a non-subscribed service is selected, payment data is retrieved from the terminal and a suitable subscription is purchased without significant user involvement. The purchase of a subscription results in the terminal receiving subscription data, which is then stored for future use.

Abstract: The embodiments relate to a wireless communication system that counts UEs using an MBMS. The wireless communication system is connected with a UE through a radio link, and includes a Node B and a controlling radio network controller (CRNC). The Node B receives sequence setting information on a sequence included in a preamble transmitted from the UE network manager. The CRNC controls the Node B, detects a sequence according to whether to use an MBMS based on the sequence setting information, and performs a counting process for counting UEs based on whether the UE uses the MBMS. According to the embodiments, counting of UEs using an MBMS can be performed by using a predetermined sequence. Particularly, the counting process can be simplified by reducing complexity in access probability management of a network manager, thereby increasing efficiency in data transmission by reducing signaling for random access probability and omitting a random access probability calculation process.

  • Patent number: 8121533
Abstract: A wireless local loop system is provided that includes a wireless base station that communicates with a subscriber station via a wireless link. The wireless link can carry a voice service, such as telephone calls, or a data service, such as internet browsing. The subscriber station includes a steerable antenna. A presently preferred steerable antenna for use with the subscriber station includes a driven element mounted on a base plane that is surrounded by a plurality of parasitic elements also mounted to the base plane. The parasitic elements can be optionally grounded or floated in order to reflect the wireless link towards the driven element. The antenna can be oriented in a desired direction during the transception of a voice or data service. A method of transceiving between a wireless local loop subscriber station and a wireless local loop base station is also provided.

Abstract: A method, a base station, a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) Coordination Entity (MCE), and a system for transmitting messages are provided. The method includes the steps of: defining a transmission order for different services in a service area; defining an arranging order of different messages in the same Transport Block (TB); generating and transmitting first messages carrying the transmission order for different services and the arranging order of different messages so as to synchronize contents of the first message TBs. According to the above technical solutions, the content synchronization of the MCCH RRC message TBs may be achieved.

  • Patent number: 8116797
Abstract: A system and method for wirelessly transferring content to and from a vehicle, in particular, an aircraft. The content includes, for example, data, voice, video and multimedia, that can be wirelessly exchanged over a wireless communication link between an aircraft and a ground station while the aircraft is at or near a parking gate, or between aircraft. In an example, the system employs long distance metropolitan area technology, such as IEEE Standard 802.16 wireless technology, to increase transfer range. The parameter of the wireless communication link can be adjusted based on, for example, the location of the link. The content can further be provided between the vehicle and ground station based on priorities, such as the available link speed, importance of the information, and/or anticipated connection time between the vehicle and ground station. A media creation center can be networked to a plurality of base stations.

  • Patent number: 8112694
Abstract: A system and method communicates commands from a command originator to receiving devices, yet the receiving devices do not confirm receipt of the command. The most current command (e.g. the one with the highest sequence number) is rebroadcast by the command originator and the receiving devices, tending to be more frequent upon detection of an event indicating that the most current command was not received by at least one other device, and less frequently upon detection of an event indicating that the most current command was provided with sufficient duplication that if another device could receive it, the device likely did receive it, subject to a maximum and minimum rate.

  • Patent number: 8112650
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for re-acquiring a WiMAX network after a relatively long power saving mode (e.g., sleep or idle mode) using a “pre-wakeup” scheme are provided. According to this pre-wakeup scheme, a mobile station (MS) may power up receiving circuitry to search for the current channel or, if unsuccessful, a neighbor channel. After a successful network search during sleep mode, the MS may return to sleep for the remainder of the sleep window until the circuitry is powered up a second time to wakeup and then listen for an expected message. By pre-waking up and searching before waking up for the expected message, the MS may counteract the effects of the potential error in the local oscillator frequency accumulated during the long sleep mode. In this manner, the message miss rate may be reduced, thereby saving power and extending the time in which the MS may operate between battery rechargings.

Abstract: A method for searching across instant message systems and an interconnecting server are disclosed in the present invention. The method includes: searching in a SIMPLE IM system by a WV-IMPS user, and searching in a WV-IMPS system by a SIMPLE IM user. The interconnecting server includes a message input/output module and a message processing and converting module. The technical solution of the present invention seamlessly connects the search services of the WV-IMPS instant message system and the SIMPLE instant message system, and thus solves the problem on interconnecting search functions between different types of instant message systems.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a location-based audio service. According to one embodiment, a request for a desired audio stream having an inactive segment is received from a user operating a mobile device. Furthermore, geographic data may be monitored while the audio stream is being rendered on the mobile device. The location-based audio service is configured to determine relevant location-based information based on the geographic data, and then transmit the relevant information to the mobile device during the inactive segment of the desired audio stream.

  • Patent number: 8103230
Abstract: While sequentially changing the selected channel, a digital broadcast judgment part collects level value VW of a signal extracted on a wide band, a bandwidth suitable for reproduction of an analog broadcast, reported from a reproduction processing unit as the level detection result, and a signal level value VN extracted on a narrow bandwidth of about ?F for which, in an IBOC system, it is likely that neither a digital nor analog broadcast component is present. This digital broadcast judgment part searches for a channel upon which hybrid broadcasting performed by sequentially judging, for three successive channels, whether the first and second adjacent channel conditions, and a central channel condition are satisfied, only on the basis of the signal level values VW and VN. Accordingly, when receiving a radio broadcast according to the IBOC system, it is possible to decide promptly whether or not a digital broadcast is included therein.
