Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a user equipment, an RNC, or an application operable in a wireless communications network and methods in which the user equipment can be transitioned into a dormant state controlled by an application driven scheme. According to the application driven scheme, a request is received from an active process at an application server to trigger a wireless device to enter a dormant state, and network traffic information corresponding to a time interval is received from a wireless device. If the network traffic information indicates that the active process is solely responsible for network traffic at a transport layer of the wireless device during the time interval, one or more commands are transmitted to the wireless device such that the wireless device enters the dormant state. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

The communication device is mounted on an industrial vehicle or battery charger. A load is electrically connected to the communication device that is external to and independent from the storage device monitor. • Patent number: 9596650
Abstract: In a method of establishing communication between a primary node and secondary nodes over communications channels, the secondary nodes are placed in a sleep state in the absence of active communications and are responsive to a wake-up message transmitted over the one or more communications channels from the primary node to enter a wake-up state. A wake-up message is sent from an instigator at the primary node to a receptor at a said secondary node. The communications channels with the receptor at said secondary node are periodically sniffed for a valid wake-up message. In response to reception of a valid wake-up message the receptor places the secondary node in the wake-up state. The instigator and receptor employ a selected operational mode being defined by the timing of the wake-up message and sniff pattern at the receptor. The selected operational mode is changed to suit different channel conditions.

  • Patent number: 9510288
Abstract: A wireless receiver includes a receiver front-end where the input of the LNA and the mixer have separate main radio and wake-up modes, where same DC voltage is used at the input of the LNA, and the input of the baseband filter. When the receiver switches between the wake-up and main radio mode, wake-up current usage is reduced due to near zero latency in programming bias voltages from the power management unit. The receiving circuitry can one or both of selectively change a signal processing path for the receiving circuitry or selectively configure signal processing circuits of the receiving circuitry when switching between the wake-up mode configuration and the main radio mode configuration. The programming and configurations are dependent on the dynamic range and modulation techniques and requires near zero area overhead compared with the main radio receiver.

With respect to SMSTAs, the relative duration of time that such communication devices are awake and operative versus asleep (or in a reduced power and/or functionality state) can be significant. Certain implementations may include a relatively large number of such communication devices (e.g., 10s, 100a, 1000s, or more), and appropriate coordination and scheduling of such communications to/from them is made using one or more variations of TDMA signaling (e.g.

  • Patent number: 8954070
Abstract: A method and system for selecting a communication network by a wireless communication device (106) includes receiving (310) an identification parameter at the wireless communication device from a communication network which identifies the communication network. Next, the method compares (312) the identification parameter with a list at the wireless communication device to determine (314) service information. The service information identifies the services supported by the communication network. The method further includes comparing (316) the service information with a service-related datum at the wireless communication device that indicates the services desired by the wireless communication device. Lastly, the method includes selecting (318) the communication network for accessing a requested service if the service information matches the service-related datum.

  • Patent number: 8953718
Abstract: A receiver assembly for the wireless reception of data that are modulated onto a carrier signal includes an analog receiver, an evaluating device and a control device. The control device controls the receiver by means of sampling pulses such that the receiver is activated during the sampling pulses and is ready to receive transmission signals and is deactivated during the sampling pauses. The evaluating device generates a data bit sequence from the received signals that are supplied by the receiver during the sampling pulses. The control device is further designed to actuate the receiver between phases having differing sampling frequency ranges in dependence on at least one predefined switching criterion.

  • Patent number: 8948781
Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatuses for controlling a location sensing system of a mobile device are disclosed. One method includes collecting location related information of the mobile device. The method further includes controllably setting the mobile device to operate in one of a high-power state, a low-power state, or a transitional state based on the collected location related information, wherein a satellite-based positioning system receiver of the mobile device generates location information in the transitional state and in the on-state, and the satellite-based positioning system receiver does not generate location information in the low-power state. When operating in the transitional state, the mobile device repeatedly checks the collected location related information and transitions to the low-power state or the high-power state based on the collected location related information.

  • Patent number: 8913536
Abstract: The present invention provides a DRX control method and system in which power consumption of a mobile station can be reduced and an increase in the load of a network can be suppressed. A source base station forwards Dormancy Context, which is information for controlling the activity level of a mobile station that performs inter base station handover, to a target base station and, immediately after the mobile station completes handover, the target base station performs DRX control of the mobile station using the Dormancy Context.

  • Patent number: 8908581
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate operating an access terminal in an LTE based wireless communication environment utilizing extended microsleep. While in non-DRX mode, an access terminal can operate in on state for a first period of time and in extended microsleep state for a second period of time. Further, the first and second periods of time can form a repeating pattern where these periods of time alternate. Thus, the access terminal can turn on its receiver for the first period of time (e.g., decode downlink information while in on state) and turn off its receiver for the second period of time (e.g., inhibit decoding of downlink information while in extended microsleep state). Further, the first period of time in the repeating pattern can be one TTI (e.g., 1 ms) and the second period of time in the repeating pattern can be a plurality of TTIs (e.g., 5 ms).

Abstract: Disclosed are a terminal device for receiving a signal in a wireless communication system for supporting a plurality of component carriers and a method thereof. In the terminal device for receiving the signal in the system for supporting the component carriers, a receiver receives a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) including control information of a first type component carrier from a base station or a relay. A processor performs a decoding operation or controls an operation in a slip mode on the basis of control information included in a PDCCH in a second type component carrier after a time corresponding to a particular time offset value passes from a transmission time point of the PDCCH.
