The system may deploy a network of these wireless nodes to rapidly fill in coverage gaps.

In some aspects, a method of the technology can further include steps for broadcasting a lower-layer (e.g., Layer 2) packet to the plurality of client devices, wherein the lower-layer packet includes an extended duration field to suppress transmission by one or more listening client devices until at least one subsequent higher-layer packet is received from the first device. In this way, the battery life of the device may be conserved by disabling the Wi-Fi scanning operation. Although the electronic device may be within the Wi-Fi range of the network receiver, the device may not search for or connect to the network receiver if it is outside of the BTLE range of the network receiver.
