  • Patent number: 10219219
Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to identifying a Bluetooth Low Energy (BTLE) enabled Wi-Fi network receiver and automatically connecting to the BTLE-enabled network receiver via a Wi-Fi signal without using a Wi-Fi scanning operation. In some aspects, an initial connection may be established between the network receiver and a BTLE-enabled device during which the Wi-Fi scanning operation of the device is disabled. Thereafter, the device may automatically detect the BTLE-enabled network receiver via BTLE signal and automatically connect to the network receiving using a Wi-Fi signal without using the Wi-Fi scanning operation. In this way, the battery life of the device may be conserved by disabling the Wi-Fi scanning operation. Although the electronic device may be within the Wi-Fi range of the network receiver, the device may not search for or connect to the network receiver if it is outside of the BTLE range of the network receiver.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide an information transmission method and apparatus, including: sending, by a routing apparatus, an IP address of the routing apparatus to an HPCRF entity via a VPCRF entity; receiving via the VPCRF entity, an IP address of the HPCRF entity sent by the HPCRF entity, the IP address of the HPCRF entity is sent after the HPCRF entity receives the IP address of the routing apparatus; and performing communication with the HPCRF entity according to the IP address of the HPCRF entity and the IP address of the routing apparatus. Therefore, information transmitted between the routing apparatus and the HPCRF entity no longer needs to be forwarded by the VPCRF entity, but instead, directly performed between the routing apparatus and the HPCRF entity, thereby reducing signaling overheads and saving network resources.

  • Patent number: 10193943
Abstract: A user device described herein suggests a change to a quality setting associated with the consumption of content from one or more content providers. The change is suggested based both on a user's data plan and on a service quality of content received by the user device. This user-selected quality setting is then provided to the telecommunication network, which reduces network resources available for transmission of the content based on the quality setting. Such reduced network resources cause the content providers to provide content at a service quality no greater than the quality setting. Also, the user may be presented with or defaulted to selecting an option for a program offering consumption of the video content free of charge when provided to the user at a limited service quality. When the user participates, consumption of video content is then conditionally excluded from a consumption metric of the data plan.

Abstract: A system and method for purchasing and reloading airtime for a local and foreign prepaid mobile phone account are disclosed. The system comprises a plurality of payment receiving means which are connected to a wireless protocol cloud (120), for receiving an airtime purchase and reload request, and also a corresponding payment based on a selected airtime denomination. The payment receiving means are connected to a plurality of servers (140-142). One of the servers is the main server (142) which links the wireless protocol cloud (120) to a group of reloading entities (180). Alternatively, the main server (142) may also be connected to an Internet cloud (150). Therefore, the group of reloading entities may receive the airtime purchase and reload request from the payment receiving means (100) via the Internet cloud (150) or directly from the main server (142) via a plurality of fixed wireless terminals (FWT) (170).

Abstract: A system and method for telecommunications operators to enable group based dynamic policy controls for both pre-paid and post-paid subscribers, who are typically not managed in an Online Charging System (OCS), but rather in an Charging System or a Billing System. Examples of policy controls that may be enabled by this invention include tracking spending for post-paid subscribers, managing subscriber usage across fixed-line and mobile networks, and so on. This is achieved by introducing a new component called the Enhanced Charging System (ECS) and creating a new reference point and interface between the Policy Management System and the ECS.

Abstract: A method and system for implementing a prepaid service in a packet-switched mobile communication network, in which information requested by a mobile station is delivered to the mobile station so long as the subscriber has maintained a sufficient prepaid balance from which the service charges can be deducted. An access point name definition, which points to a service node via which access to or use of an associated prepaid service is provided, is defined. A control server is used to monitor the service traffic between the mobile station and the content server after the access point name definition identified in an activation request for data service has been sent from the mobile station. Traffic monitoring continues as long as the data service is active, and the prepaid service balance in a billing database is dynamically updated to reflect the subscriber's ongoing use of the data service based on the continued monitoring of the control server.
