Patent number: 8195216Abstract: A radio communication system has means for improving power control of a communication channel for the transmission of data after an interruption in the transmission. This is done by adjusting the transmission power immediately after the interruption by an offset from the power used before the interruption. The offset may be fixed or may be determined from the transmission power in the period before the interruption. This technique reduces, on average, the time taken for power control to be re-established, thereby addressing the problem that data transmissions immediately after the interruption are likely to be corrupted if the power level is too low, or to generate extra interference if the power level is too high.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2004Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignees: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V., Sharp CorporationInventors: Matthew P. Patent number: 8150389Abstract: A portable communication terminal device includes a section for detecting a call from a calling party; a section for obtaining position data for a present position of the portable communication terminal device; a section for storing data of a plurality of areas and a plurality of messages to the calling party, which respectively correspond to the areas; and a section for performing a determination when the call is detected. In the determination, it is determined whether the present position based on the position data belongs to one of the plurality of the areas stored in advance. The terminal also includes a section for performing message transmission when it is determined that the present position belongs to one of the plurality of the areas. In the message transmission, one of the plurality of the messages is transmitted, which corresponds to the one of the plurality of the areas.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2005Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Kyocera CorporationInventor: Hitoshi Wada

Patent number: 8150436Abstract: A radio-wave propagation characteristic prediction assisting system includes a storage section, an attribute information input section, and an output section. The storage section stores attribute information of a region and reference information useful for predicting a radio-wave propagation characteristic in the region in association with each other. The attribute information input section inputs attribute information of a region whose radio-wave propagation characteristic is to be predicted. The output section searches information stored in the storage section to specify a region having an attribute which matches with the attribute information input by the attribute information input section, and outputs reference information associated with the specified region.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2009Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Tomohide Hattori

Patent number: 8150469Abstract: An array antenna forming unit (22) combines at least two transmission/reception devices (40) to thereby sequentially form one array antenna. Every time an array antenna is formed, an array antenna transmission/reception control unit (25) sends a radio signal having a predetermined directivity pattern from the array antenna to each of some or all of other antenna elements (42) not forming the array antenna. An array antenna communication performance measurement unit (26) measures a reception level in each of some or all of the antenna elements (42) with respect to a transmission from each array antenna, and calculates respective array antenna communication performance values, based on the measured reception levels. An array antenna determining unit (23) determines a combination of at least two transmission/reception devices (40) forming an array antenna having a predetermined performance condition, based on the array antenna communication performance values.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2007Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Kyocera CorporationInventor: Masato Fujishiro

Patent number: 8145136Abstract: A method of analyzing a wireless network, including the steps of coupling a diagnostic station to a wireless network, injecting encapsulated wireless frames into that wireless network, forwarding encapsulated wireless frames within that wireless network, and in response to recognizing encapsulated wireless frames within that wireless network, de-encapsulating those wireless frames and forwarding them to that diagnostic station. Also, a system and a diagnostic station that can implement the method.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2008Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Meru NetworksInventor: Vaduvur Bharghavan

Patent number: 8145205Abstract: A method of estimating the quality of speech information associated with a voice call over a communication system comprising a core network and an access network where speech information is carried between the access network and the core network and within the core network in frames. The method comprises determining a rate of frame loss for frames transported between the access network and the core network and/or within the core network, and mapping the rate of frame loss to a quality estimation value using data collected by simulating frame loss on representative speech samples and determining quality estimation values for the damaged speech samples.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2005Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Mika Väisänen, Peter Jungner, Johan Fagerström

Publication number: 20120071158Abstract: A portable telecommunication test set with a web browser incorporated therein is provided. A standard Hyper Text Mark-up Language or Wireless Application Protocol browser may be incorporated within the portable test set, allowing a network technician to access the Internet as well as other remotely-located sources of information to retrieve data and other useful technical information while in the field for communication network or telephone line maintenance, troubleshooting or repair. The test set may contain memory to locally store certain technical information that may be retrieved and “read” by the built-in browser module when prompted by the network technician. The web browser may display the content of the requested information on a display provided on the test set. Line-specific (as well as manufacturer-specific) test information need not be in a manufacturer-dictated proprietary format. Testing-related data may thus be supplied by a vendor other than the manufacturer of the test set.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2011Publication date: March 22, 2012Applicant: AT&T INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY I, LPInventors: Samuel N. Patent number: 8140070Abstract: Methods for suppressing inter-cell interference during data transmission using a preceding matrix are provided. Inter-cell interference is suppressed by precoding data (or information) signals for transmission from base station to mobile or vice versa. Methods according to example embodiments also increase intra-cell data transmission rates. The precoding matrix is generated based on estimated channel coefficients for propagation channels between a base station and mobiles inside and outside the base station's coverage area.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2009Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Alexei Ashikhmin, Jubin Jose, Thomas Marzetta

Patent number: 8140066Abstract: A system and method for more efficiently scheduling and implementing unscheduled automatic power save delivery service periods between a terminal and an access point. An triggering interval is set for an untrigger flag, the untrigger flag not permitting the implementation of an automatic power save delivery period. Automatic triggering is used unless a plurality of criteria are met, in which case the triggering interval is calculated based upon a plurality of variables. Untrigger flags are set for selected frames based upon the triggering interval, and unscheduled automatic power save delivery service periods are implemented for frames for which the untrigger flag is not set and for which the terminal receives an indication of additional data from a remote source such as an access point.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2005Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventor: Jarkko Kneckt
