  • Patent number: 8914021
Abstract: A mobile data network includes a radio access network and a core network. A first service mechanism in the radio access network breaks out data coming from a basestation. When data is broken out by the first service mechanism, the data is delivered at the edge, which means the true activity of the channel is not visible to the core network. In order to maintain the high-speed channel, channel maintenance data packets are sent to and from the radio network controller on the network tunnel. The maintenance channel is also used to send cache miss data to a subscriber when a cache miss occurs at the edge of the mobile data network, without regard to a need for channel maintenance data packets.

  • Patent number: 8914020
Abstract: Methods and arrangements for reporting of measurement information from a user equipment to a receiving entity via a network node comprised in a wireless communication system are disclosed. The embodiments relate to measurement logging function and immediate reporting function called Minimizing Drive Tests (MDT). The problem of reporting measurements in another RAT than in the RAT in which the measurements were collected in is addressed by a solution where a UE includes the measurement information collected in a first RAT in a message which is sent 36 to a network node in a second RAT. The network node then forwards 37 the message to a receiving entity without having to decode the actual content of the measurement log. This is done by introducing the receiving entity's IP address and/or similar addressing information in an address field in the message and using a container structure where the actual measurement log as reported by the UE is placed.

Abstract: Determining levels of geographic redundancy among radios of a wireless radio network is described. The level of geographic redundancy for a radio can affect the determination of location information for a user equipment (UE) on the wireless radio network. The disclosed subject matter can be employed in conjunction with timed fingerprint location (TFL) technologies to facilitate selection of radios employed in determining time values for TFL location determination. Levels of geographic redundancy can be employed to rank or order radios of a wireless radio network so as to reduce the likelihood of using geographically redundant radios in location determination. Further, rules can be selected to adjust threshold values and equations employed in determining the levels of geographic redundancy. Moreover, rules can be selected to apply boundary conditions to reduce the number of determinations formed for a set of radios of the wireless radio network.

  • Patent number: 8862119
Abstract: In order to provide an early and more accurate determination of network problems, current NPI OMs are compared with samples of recent historical NPI OMs so that changes in the NPI OM are detected based on current overall network conditions rather than on conditions that may have existed at statistically insignificant earlier operational periods. By constantly adjusting a performance threshold, against which the current NPI OM is compared, by using a smaller and very recent sampling of NPIs (in the case of sudden and abrupt performance-NPI degradation detection) or a larger and greater number of NPIs over a wider time period (in the case of slow and persistent NPI degradation detection) to establish the threshold, detection results are more accurate and meaningful.

Abstract: A network node (28) communicates over a radio interface (32) with a wireless terminal (30). Both the network node (28) and the wireless terminal (30) have multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) capabilities. A MIMO-related order (90) is generated for inclusion in control signaling on a high speed downlink shared channel from the network node (28) to the wireless terminal (30). The MIMO-related order (90) is configured to modify channel quality indication (CQI) communications between the wireless terminal (30) and the base station (28) in view of MIMO capabilities of the wireless terminal (30). The method further comprises providing a channel quality indication (CQI) report (92) the wireless terminal (30) to the base station (28) in accordance with the order.

Abstract: A propagation state measurement system includes a parameter update information reception means (101) and a measurement control means (102). The parameter update information reception means (101) stores a time when a radio parameter of a base station (30a) is updated. The measurement control means (102) indicates measurement of a radio wave state to a mobile terminal (40a) that can communicate with the base station (30a) at a timing determined according to the time stored by the parameter update information reception means (101). Then, when the radio parameter of the base station (30a) of a mobile communication system is updated, a change of the radio wave state by the radio parameter update is quickly and efficiently measured.

Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a method of setting an attach attempt counter value by a network applicable under the circumstance when a UE attempts to attach to a network control entity of the network. The proposed method would include the UE transmitting an attach request message to a network. After transmitting the attach request message, the UE may receive an attach reject message in response to an attach failure. The attach reject message would contain an attach attempt counter value set by the network so as to generate a received attach attempt counter value which would overwrite whatever value that was currently stored in the attach attempt counter. The UE could then determine whether to continue attempting to attach to the network according to the attach attempt counter value received from the attach reject message.

Abstract: A method for power measurements in a cellular communication system comprises receiving measurement configuration orders. Operation of a power meter is controlled in dependence on the measurement configuration orders. Reference signal received powers are measured. A measurement report is compiled and transmitted. The measurement configuration orders comprise cell status information associated with neighboring cells and measurement instructions that are dependent of the cell status of respective cell. The cell status information comprises information about whether the neighboring cell is of a different type than the serving cell. Controlling of the operation of the power meter and/or compiling of the measurement report is performed in dependence on the cell status of the neighboring cell. A method for handover based on such measurement reports is also disclosed as well as Node Bs and user equipments configured to perform such methods.

  • Patent number: 8849281
Abstract: When a femto cell base station detects an intense uplink interference, the femto cell base station autonomously extends the femto cell so as to raise a probability that a mobile terminal around the original femto cell may be connected to the femto cell base station. If the mobile terminal connects to the femto cell base station, the uplink interference is reduced and total throughput is improved. Additionally, if a resultant effect of interference reduction is low, the femto cell base station returns the mobile terminal, which is connected to the femto cell base station due to the extension of the femto cell, to the original connection destination. If an evaluative criterion meets a predetermined condition, the femto cell base station restores the extended femto cell to the original size. These actions prevent degradation of performance caused by concentration of the connections of mobile terminals to the femto cell base station.
