  • Patent number: 9756066
Abstract: Systems and methods for recognizing and reacting to malicious or performance-degrading behaviors in a mobile computing device include observing mobile device behaviors in an observer module within a privileged-normal portion of a secure operating environment to identify a suspicious mobile device behavior. The observer module may generate a behavior vector based on the observations, and provide the vector to an analyzer module in an unprivileged-secure portion of the secure operating environment. The vector may be analyzed in the unprivileged-secure portion to determine whether the mobile device behavior is benign, suspicious, malicious, or performance-degrading. If the behavior is found to be suspicious, operations of the observer module may be adjusted, such as to perform deeper observations. If the behavior is found to be malicious or performance-degrading behavior the user and/or a client module may be alerted in a secure, tamper-proof manner.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes methods and apparatus for synchronizing devices in a wireless data communication system. A wireless transceiver device of the wireless data communication system transmits a beacon at various intervals that includes both a timestamp indicating a current time and date of the transmitting wireless transceiver device, and a time quality indication indicating a quality of the time source of the transmitting wireless transceiver device. A wireless transceiver device receiving the beacon evaluates the time quality indication included in the beacon. If the time quality indication included in the beacon indicates the transmitting wireless transceiver device has a higher quality time source than the receiving wireless transceiver device, then the receiving wireless transceiver device adjusts its clock based on the timestamp in the beacon, otherwise the receiving wireless transceiver device need not adjust its clock based on the timestamp in the beacon.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for switching D2D data communications between a licensed and a license-exempt band are disclosed. A D2D device receives from a cellular network a pre-switch notification to prepare for a switch of its D2D communications, and in response adopts a temporary strategy for conducting its D2D transmissions prior to the switch. After the switch the D2D device discontinues the temporary strategy. In one embodiment the temporary strategy and its duration are indicated in the pre-switch notification. Two example temporary strategies are presented: ‘no-new-data’ where new data transmissions are suspended and data re-transmissions are sent with high reliability; and ‘no-feedback’ where new data is sent with high reliability and data re-transmissions are suspended. Different embodiments have the cellular network access node or D2D device contending for the radio resource in the license-exempt frequency band.

  • Patent number: 9326091
Abstract: Examples are disclosed that facilitate using a mobile device to provision of a connectable device to a user account. The disclosed examples provide for provisioning a connected device by a mobile device that uses a near field communication (NFC) transceiver in the mobile device to obtain information identifying a connectable device. The information identifying the connectable device is obtained from a NFC transponder associated with the connectable device. The mobile device processor accesses user account-related information to retrieve user authenticating information. The user authenticating information and the information identifying the connectable device is transmitted via a wireless communication transceiver to a provisioning server for provisioning the connectable device in a network. A confirmation of the provisioning of the connectable device to the user account associated with the mobile device is presented in a user interface element of the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 9325459
Abstract: A method of characterizing a radio frequency traffic channel comprising a transmitter and a receiver. The method comprises calculating a first error rate associated with a sequence of bits sent by the transmitter at a first amplitude and received by the receiver. The first error rate is then used to determine a second amplitude to be used by the transmitter when sending a further sequence of bits. Subsequently, a second error rate associated with this further sequence of bits is calculated and compared to a target error rate. If this second error rate differs from the target error rate by more than a predetermined amount, a third amplitude is calculated which differs from the first amplitude by a lesser amount than the second amplitude differed from the first amplitude. Otherwise, the third amplitude is calculated which differs from the second amplitude by an amount determined by the second error rate.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system of providing minimization drive test (MDT) measurement information to a base station in a wireless communication network. In one embodiment, a method includes indicating availability of MDT measurement information logged by user equipment to a base station in a wireless network environment. The method further includes receiving an information request message to transfer the MDT measurement information in response to the indication. The method includes transmitting an information response message including at least a portion of the MDT measurement information to the base station, where the information response message indicates whether any portion of MDT measurement information is leftover with the user equipment. The method then includes repeating the above steps of receiving and transmitting till the entire MDT measurement information is transferred to the base station.

  • Patent number: 9300704
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to forming crowds of users taking into account known physical boundaries. In general, current locations of a number of users are obtained. A crowd of users is then formed based on the current locations of the users while taking into account one or more known physical boundaries such that the crowd does not include spatially proximate users on opposite sides of the one or more known physical boundaries. By utilizing known physical boundaries in a spatial crowd formation process, users that are spatially proximate to one another but are separated by a physical boundary are not included in the same crowd. In this manner, the spatial crowd formation process provides accurate and meaningful crowd formation in environments such as, but not limited to, buildings with multiple rooms, shopping malls, or the like. Crowd data representing users in the formed crowd is generated.
