  • Patent number: 10959127
Abstract: A wireless access point (WAP) determines whether to switch from one or more first communication channels to one or more second communication channels when the one or more first communication channels are experiencing congestion. The WAP determines an amount of congestion the one or more first communication channels are experiencing. When the one or more first communication channels are experiencing congestion, the WAP determines whether one or more communication devices can support, or reliably support, a channel switching announcement signal using the one or more first communication channels. If a sufficient number of communication devices from among the one or more communication devices can support, or reliably support, the channel switching announcement signal, the WAP broadcasts the channel switching announcement signal to the one or more communication devices to announce its intention to switch from the one or more first communication channels to the one or more second communication channels.

Abstract: Handling communications in a wireless network is described. A message requesting forwarding of communications for a first user device is received. Communications include telephone calls, video calls, text based communications, and messages sent via social media. The message requesting forwarding is sent in response to detecting a battery reaching or dropping below a predefined threshold power level. The location of the first user device is determined. One or more trusted second user devices associated with the first user device is identified based on a parameter indicating a highest predefined priority. A trusted second user device is selected to automatically receive redirected forwarded communications for the first user device. The selected second user device is located within a predefined distance of the location of the first user device. Forwarding is cancelled based on detection of normal battery status, or upon receiving a manual cancellation notification.

  • Patent number: 10728870
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for avoiding attempts by a UE to attach to a RAT network when that RAT network is unavailable. According to certain aspects, the UE may detect scenarios when the RAT network is unavailable and take preemptive action to prevent the UE from attempting to acquire service on that RAT. For example, the UE may effectively remove that RAT from a list of supported RATs by sending a UE capability message indicating that RAT is not supported, which may prevent network-initiated transitions of the UE to that RAT. The UE may also remove the unavailable RAT from an internal list of supported RATs, which may prevent UE-initiated transitions to that RAT.
