Abstract: A wireless communication device includes conventional components to permit a network communication link to be established with a wireless communication network. In addition, the wireless communication device includes a non-network transceiver that detects the presence of a wireless access point. When two such equipped devices come within proximity of the access point, a non-network wireless communication link is established. Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, computer program products, and methods for dynamically customizing and/or configuring applications on devices. Current access point information associated with the terminal is transmitted from the terminal. In response to providing this current access point information, the terminal receives updated access point information via the network. The terminal is configured to enable data communication by way of an access point identifiable from the updated access point information, rather than from any prior access points.

  • Patent number: 7738863
Abstract: The invention provides a middleware component usable in a mobile terminal device, where the middleware component mediates between an application program and network interfaces and/or hardware to manage the interaction between disparate applications across heterogeneous platforms. The middleware component coordinates scanning for available broadcast, multicast, and/or conditional access platforms, networks, and/or services, as well as obtaining electronic service guide (ESG) data for the available services. The middleware component may use a variety of discovery protocols to identify services, and may use security protocols to manage authorized access to received services. When incorporated into a mobile terminal device, the middleware may interface with multiple radios to establish communications over on or more data networks in addition to receiving data via the broadcast network.

Abstract: A method for inter-standard network roaming is provided. Upon roaming into a visited network, an access terminal may send a location update message that includes its current mobile subscriber identity. A roaming gateway receives the update message and uses the current mobile subscriber identity to determine whether the access terminal should be assigned a new mobile subscriber identity for operation in the visited network. If the current mobile subscriber identity indicates that the access terminal is not using a preferred roaming sponsor for the visited network, then the roaming gateway generates or selects a new mobile subscriber identity associated with the preferred roaming sponsor. The new mobile subscriber identity is securely transmitted to the access terminal which uses it for communications over the visited network thereafter.

  • Patent number: 7729314
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for preventing an IP address from being assigned to a client implementing a protocol such as DHCP are disclosed. This is particularly useful in an environment such as a Mobile IP environment in which a network device (e.g., Access Point) performs proxy registration on behalf of the client. When the client transmits a detection packet to detect whether its IP address is still valid (e.g., whether it is on the same sub-network on which the IP address was allocated), a response is transmitted to the client that indicates that the client is still on its home network. This response is transmitted regardless of whether the client is still on its home network. Since the client believes it is still on its home network, a new IP address will not be assigned to the client. As a result, an existing Mobile IP session will not be interrupted.

Abstract: While a handsfree device being multi-profile compatible is maintaining a connection for a handsfree profile (HFP) with a mobile phone handset, the handsfree device cuts off the connection for the HFP based on a user's operation. After cutting off, the handsfree device establishes a connection for a dial-up network profile (DUN), and subsequently transmits a request for a connection for the HFP while maintaining the connection for the DUN. Subsequently, the handsfree device determines whether the handset is multi-profile compatible according to the response to the request from the handset. Based on the determination that the handset is multi-profile compatible, the handsfree device executes the processes for the HFP while maintaining the connection for the DUN.
