Abstract: A roaming telephone user in a visited network dialing a long-distance number is transferred to a substitute telephone number which is local to that network and belongs to a service center. Typically, the visited network contacts the user's home network for permission to complete the long-distance call. When that happens, the home network obtains the substitute number from a database on a telephone number server, based upon the location of the visited network, and responds to the visited network, instructing it to forward the user's call to the substitute telephone number. When the service center receives the roaming user's telephone call, it contacts the telephone number server and obtains the original long-distance number, which is stored in the database in association with the substitute telephone number. The service center is then able to route the roaming users call efficiently and cost-effectively by making use of its base of service providers.

Abstract: A manner of extending a home network to a mobile device. An FA (foreign agent) in the mobile device registers with an HA (home agent) in the home network, preferable exchanging static UIDs (unique identifiers) and certificates. The HA creates an address for the FA and maintains a registration table listing all registered FAs. The FA registration is in most cases performed while the FA is operating non-remotely and directly connected to a component of the home network. The HA registers with an SG (signaling gateway) in a secure manner and awaits a request for access to the home network. After registration with the SG, the HA initiates a heartbeat message that is acknowledged by the SG. When an FA access request is received from the SG, the HA determines whether the FA is registered with the HA and any applicable access limitations prior to granting or rejecting access.

A mobile router uses a plurality of communication means, retains a plurality of narrow band communication routes for communicating with the home agent, and configures a broad band communication route by using the plurality of the narrow band communication routes as a single logical communication route. This enables a bandwidth to be flexibly secured in accordance with the traffic which is generated in the mobile network. In this case, the home agent is enabled to effectively use the access lines by referring to the route information so as to determine the destination address. Furthermore, it is possible to save the wireless resource under the initiative of the user by dynamically connecting to an alternative line or disconnecting a line which is being used in response to a request of the user.

Abstract: A method of controlling an attach procedure of a device 1 to a telecommunications network 140 following receipt of an attach rejection from the telecommunications network, the method including assessing the authenticity of the attach rejection, and selecting a criterion for performing a subsequent attach attempt by the device to the network in dependence upon the authenticity assessment. The authenticity may be assessed by determining whether the rejection was received by an authenticated communication link or a signed message. The authenticity may also be assessed by checking that the cause of the reject is consistent with information held by the device. The selected criterion may be power cycling of the device or the passage of a time period.

Abstract: In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for identifying a location of a mobile computing device. A first location estimate of a mobile computing device and an accuracy of the first location estimate is determined at a mobile computing device based on wireless signals received from one or more beacons. A time period based on the accuracy of the first location estimate is determined. One or more subsequent location estimates of the mobile computing device and respective accuracies are determined. The determination of the subsequent location estimates is stopped at an end of the time period. A preferred location estimate from the determined location estimates is determined at the mobile computing device.

Abstract: It is possible to provide a wireless communication terminal, a handoff method in the wireless communication terminal, and a wireless communication system which can suppress the affect of an instantaneous disconnection in a hard handoff. The wireless communication terminal (10) includes a control unit (12) which executes a wireless communication by switching a frequency to be used by a communication unit (11). When the control unit (12) receives a search request which requests an acquisition of a handoff candidate frequency during a transmission of data formed by a plurality of continuous packets, the control unit (12) waits for completion of the transmission of the packets being transmitted. When the transmission is complete, the control unit (12) executes an inter-packet search process which controls the communication unit (11) to stop transmission of the subsequent packets and perform acquisition by switching from the currently used frequency to the handoff candidate frequency.
