Abstract: A serving cell configures a search window within which a UE searches to find a discovery burst. The discovery burst may include PSS, SSS, DS, CSI-RS or other signals. The UE detects synchronization signals and determines if the synchronization signals are part of the discovery burst by detecting signal properties to distinguish them from legacy or other synchronization signals. One property is the time difference between a PSS and an SSS in a discovery burst. Other properties are the frequency difference between a PSS and an SSS, and the sequence of the synchronization signals. If the UE determines that the synchronization signals are part of the discovery burst, the UE performs RRM measurements on other signals in the discovery burst, and reports the measurements results to a serving cell. An embodiment includes a plurality of access stations, each capable of wirelessly transmitting across a geographic region. In some aspects, a connection manager (118) of a user equipment device (102) measures one or more signal-related characteristics of a cellular network (104) that include signal strength of a connection (112-116) available through a base station (106-110) of the cellular network. The connection manager (118) can determine, based on the one or more signal-related characteristics, that the connection (112-116) available through the base station (106-110) of the cellular network (104) is marginal or likely unreliable. In response to this determination, the connection manager (118) can alter connection parameters of the user equipment device (102) effective to mitigate effects associated with attempting to connect or use the marginal connection.

Abstract: Dual-connectivity for the User Equipment (UE) in a cellular network is performed by monitoring a plurality of cells. During dual-connectivity, the UE may be simultaneously connected to one serving cell for the Control Plane (C-plane) and to another serving cell, controlled by a different eNodeB, for the User Plane (U-plane). In another embodiment, the dual-connected UE monitors a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) from the first eNB and monitors an EPDCCH from the second eNB.

Abstract: Fast calculation of channel state information using demodulation reference signals (DM-RS) is provided herein. The channel state information can be calculated by estimating the signal to noise ratio of a communication link based on the DM-RS, and then estimating the channel quality indicator based on the SINR. The advanced receivers can use list-based detection methods which the estimated SINR can improve the performance thereof. Channel state information is traditionally calculated based on the channel state reference signals (CS-RS). Demodulation reference signals, which are used for channel estimation for a data channel, are transmitted at different times than CS-RS however, and so some portions of the channel state information including layer indicator (LI) and channel quality indicator (CQI) can be calculated based on the demodulation reference signals, allowing a network to adapt more quickly to changing channel conditions, without having to transmit a CS-RS.

Abstract: A non-MNO PSP network maintains a table that maps external subscriber identifiers of UEs to intermediate subscriber identifiers of the UEs on an interface between the non-MNO PSP network and NHN(s). The non-MNO PSP network obtains an SCEF-related message including either an external subscriber identifier or an intermediate subscriber identifier for the UE. Using the table, the non-MNO PSP network forwards the SCEF-message to a serving NHN or to an external application. In another embodiment, an NHN maintains a table that maps internal identifiers of UEs within the NHN to intermediate subscriber identifiers that identify the UEs on an interface between the NHN and non-MNO PSP(s). The NHN obtains an SCEF-related message that includes an intermediate subscriber identifier or an internal identifier for the UE. Using the table, the NHN either processes the SCEF-related message within the NHN, or forwards the SCEF-related message to a non-MNO PSP outside the NHN.

Abstract: A system is described in which a default mobility management entity (MME) receives, from a base station, a request for setting up a communication connection to a mobile device having an associated usage type. The default MME sends, to the base station and responsive to the request, a message identifying a dedicated MME, to which the request should be re-routed, the dedicated MME having a supported service type corresponding to the usage type associated with the mobile device. The base station sends a response to the default MME, the response indicating whether re-routing to said dedicated MME is was successful or not (e.g. due to an overload of the dedicated MME). If the re-routing was not successful, the default MME attempts to serve the mobile device instead of the dedicated MME.
