Abstract: The present invention provides a positioning method, device and system, which are applied to indoor WLAN positioning. A positioning server obtains location service information of APs in a set of APs to be measured; selects three APs to be measured in the set of APs to be measured according to a preset rule, and calculates a first coordinate of a terminal; if a calculated RSSI value of an unmeasured AP is not smaller than a difference between the measured RSSI value and a preset threshold, determines that signals of the unmeasured AP are not affected by reflection; and uses the first coordinate as a location coordinate of the terminal if all the three APs to be measured have been measured, thereby positioning the terminal.

A connecting wireless device and an established wireless device both utilize low power transmission at close proximity to exchange wireless connection setting information and/or a password. The connecting wireless device is moved into proximity with the established wireless device and a low power setting is discovered at which the wireless devices may communicate with a sufficiently low error rate. The proximity of the connecting wireless device to the established wireless device is verified and the connecting wireless device is then passed the secret information by the established network device.

Abstract: The present invention facilitates handoffs for a mobile terminal in a wireless access network that is capable of supporting different types of handoffs. The different handoff types may include soft handoffs and fast base station switching (FBSS). In operation, context information associated with supporting wireless communications between the wireless access network and the mobile terminal are determined. Based on whether the context information is shared between base stations involved in the handoff or transferred from one base station to another of the base stations involved in the handoff, a particular handoff type is selected from the different handoff types that are available. Selecting the specific type of handoff to use may also be based on the level of context information that is available, the actual content of the context information, application preferences, channel conditions, base station or mobile terminal capabilities, or any combination thereof.

Abstract: A user equipment UE determines that a neighbor cell is higher priority than a serving cell, measures neighbor cell signal strength in n>1 iterations, and analyzes them for reselecting from the serving cell to the neighbor cell. Each measurement iteration is spaced from one another by a time interval (e.g., 1 DRX) that is specific for the neighbor cell being higher priority. In various embodiments, the UE measures while in a Cell-PCH, URA-PCH or idle state/mode and the first iteration is taken at the first available measurement opportunity after transitioning to that state/mode. The UE reselects to the neighbor cell based on the analyzed signal strengths; in one embodiment the decision to reselect is without regard to signal quality of the serving cell; and in another the decision is without regard to whether a reselection condition remains satisfied for a specified time period Treselection.

The apparatus may include a location determination unit, a mapping table, and a signal processor. The location determination unit may be configured to determine a first network base station in the first network. The mapping table may be configured to store information on at least one second network cell in a second network, which is spatially in a comparatively close distance to each first network base station in the first network. The signal processor may be configured to determine at least one second network cell spatially close to the determined first network base station based on the mapping table and to transmit system information of the at least one second network cell to the user equipment.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for a location-based network discovery and connection establishment, which take advantage of location/positioning technology of user equipment (UE) and resolve issues above of the blind search approaches. The location-based network discovery and connection establishment schemes use UE location information and a network access MAP to speed up network discovery, and remove the need for continuous search and measurement by the UE. The schemes also reduce the search space. A wireless network access map (MAP) is provided to the UE. The UE uses the MAP information with UE current location information to reduce the search space and speed up network discovery and radio connection establishment with the network. Network operators can use this network access MAP to control the network access and manage the network load distribution. The network access MAP can be customized for each UE.

Abstract: An automated portable call collection unit (APCCU) may gather information used in testing the accuracy of a wireless mobile device locating system. A GPS ground truth detector may detect the location of the APCCU based on GPS signals. A cellular GPS detector may detect GPS signals identified by a signal-identification communication from the locating system. An internal clock may keep time and synchronize its time to GPS time as announced periodically by GPS time signals. A controller may repeatedly cause a cellular network communication system to wirelessly request and receive the signal-identification communication and to send the information about the detected GPS signals, the locations, and the times. All of this may be done in a manner that insures that the accuracy of the locating system is not tested before the internal clock is first synchronized to GPS time following application of operating power to the APCCU.

Abstract: IMS networks and methods are disclosed for storing information on the access network of a user in a subscriber profile for the user. When a communication device of a user attempts to register with an IMS network, a P-CSCF receives a register request message from the communication device, and identifies access network information for the user. The P-CSCF then transmits another register request message to an S-CSCF that includes the access network information, and the S-CSCF in turn forwards the access network information to an HSS. The HSS then stores the access network information in the subscriber profile for the user. Nodes in the IMS network that retrieve the subscriber profile may acquire the access network information to provide services based on the access network information.

Abstract: In order to specify a handover target of a mobile station regardless of allocation of PSCs, each of femto base stations (10—1-10—3) forming a mobile communication system (1) stores phase differences between one timing for each base station to start generation of SFN and timings for other base stations to respectively start generation of SFN. The phase differences differ from each other. Each base station adds SFN, the generation of which is started at the one timing, to each broadcast information (101—1-101—3) to be wirelessly transmitted. One femto base station (10—1), on which a mobile station (20) camps, specifies as a handover target of the mobile station (20) a femto base station (10—2) starting generation of SFN with a phase difference equivalent to a difference between one SFN1 added to the broadcast information (101—1) and another SFN2 received at the mobile station (20) with respect to the base station itself.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for radio resource control connection reestablishment and a terminal. After triggering the RRC connection reestablishment, the terminal searches for a cell used for RRC connection reestablishment to use the cell as a target cell, and receives an SIB1 message corresponding to the target cell; extracts first base station identification information from the SIB1 message, and compare the first base station identification information with second base station identification information saved by the terminal; if the two pieces of information are consistent, the terminal camps on the target cell and sends an RRC connection reestablishment request message to a base station to which the target cell belongs, so that the base station to which the target cell belongs performs the RRC connection reestablishment with the terminal.

Further, it can be determined how to select user equipment devices for connection to a radio access network via a radio access technology. In one aspect, user equipment devices dynamically select a radio access network for connection based on real-time or near real-time radio access network conditions. In another aspect, a self-organizing network can monitor and determine radio access network conditions and the radio access network conditions can be sent to user equipment devices in given cellular broadcast area.

  • Patent number: RE45301
Abstract: The basic idea of the invention is to separate the location area used in the RAN and the reporting area used when reporting the location of the mobile to the core network. The size of the location area is selected preferably in the RAN based on the services used by the subscriber to optimize the use of radio resources. A reporting area comprises one or a plurality of location areas. The size of a reporting area is selected based on the accuracy of location information needed in the core network. The RAN informs the core network when a subscriber moves out of his current location area. The core network and the radio access network negotiate the size of the reporting area prior to the activation of the service. Additionally, the reporting areas can be renegotiated when the service is in the active state.
