  • Patent number: 10401478
Abstract: Various embodiments transmit a radio-frequency (“RF”) beam using two or more RF antennas of a mobile device, e.g. a mobile phone. The RF signals that make up the RF beam are selected to create an emission pattern associated with object detection. Some of the RF antennas can be multi-purpose, where in addition to transmitting the RF beam, the antennas are used for RF communications. Upon receiving a reflected radiation pattern of the RF beam from an object, the reflected radiation pattern is analyzed to identify characteristics of the object. Depending upon what characteristics have been identified, one or more actions can be automatically performed.

Abstract: In a mmW network, a UE and a base station may establish a link using a RACH procedure. Because mmW and other band communications may rely on accurate beamforming to overcome link attenuation, the UE may need to provide beam information feedback to the base station. In particular, the UE may receive a beam-formed message from the base station during the RACH procedure. The UE may determine beam information based on the received beam-formed message during the RACH procedure. The UE may transmit a message to the base station during the RACH procedure, and the message may include the determined beam information.

Abstract: According to an aspect of the teachings herein, dynamic cell activation uses the spectrum of a spectrum owner to provide wireless communication services in a location that may not be served by the spectrum owner. For example, a base station determines which one of two or more network operators is targeted by a wireless device requesting access, and correspondingly activates communication services for the device, using spectrum owned by the targeted network operator. Advantageously, the cell(s) may not be persistent and instead may be provided only when access is requested and then only in the spectrum of the targeted network operator(s). This approach offers power savings as compared to providing persistent cells for multiple network operators. Further, the contemplated arrangement makes it economic for third parties and network operators to use of operator-owned spectrum that might otherwise remain unexploited in the involved locations.

Abstract: Systems and method are disclosed for obtaining an allocation of spectrum for a wireless access point in a self-organized network. The desirability of available wireless communication channels are ranked and the highest ranked wireless communication channel is initially selected. A request to a spectrum access system is made requesting allocation of the selected channel at a maximum power level. In response to receiving a denial of the request for allocation at the maximum power level, a request is transmitted to the spectrum allocation authority is requesting allocation of the selected channel at a minimum acceptable power level. In response to receiving a grant of an allocation of the selected channel at the minimum acceptable power level, a search is initiated with the spectrum allocation authority for a highest allocable power level for the selected channel.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may transmit a control message during a special subframe of a radio frame. The UE may determine a payload size of the control message according to a radio resource configuration, or the UE may determine a payload size based on a number of bits associated with information to be sent in the control message. The UE may identify uplink resources of the special subframe to use for the control message based on explicit signaling or implicitly based on information to be sent in the control message. Designated resources for control message transmissions in a special subframe may remain the same or may change in subsequent transmission opportunities. The UE may determine to use the same or different resources of a special subframe in a subsequent transmission opportunity depending on when the UE receives downlink messages.
