Abstract: A satellite system comprises LEO satellites and MEO satellites, and a control plane protocol architecture. The PHY, MAC, MAC/RLC and RRC layers are optimized for satellite environment. When the satellites are not processing satellites, eNB functions are implemented in a satellite gateway, and, when the satellites are processing satellites, protocol architecture in the control plane differ from LTE, as follows: PHY layer is moved to the communicating LEO/MEO satellite on the user link, MAC/RLC, RRC and PDCP are be located in satellite or gateway depending on satellite complexity, and the need to have mesh connectivity between UTs. When the RRC is implemented in the satellite, the RRC is divided into RRC-Lower and RRC-Upper layers. The RRC-L is satellite-based, and handles UT handover. The RRC-U is eNB-based, and handles resource management functions. The RRC-U communicates with the PDCP layer in the eNB to configure security, header and data compression.

  • Patent number: 10178650
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure include a mobility management entity (MME) receives a downlink data notification (DDN) message sent by a serving gateway (SGW), where the DDN message carries an identity of user equipment, and the DDN message is used to instruct the MME to send a paging message to a base station in a tracking area list (TA list) of the user equipment. After enabling an aggregate paging function, the MME determines, according to the DDN message, whether a priority of the user equipment is higher than a preset level. If the priority of the user equipment is higher than the preset level, the MME directly sends the paging message to the base station. The present disclosure is applicable to a paging message sending process.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining a request to transfer data to a group of wireless communication devices within an area. Wireless base stations of a wireless mobility network are identified, responsive to the request, wherein the wireless base stations provide wireless communication services within the area, including a Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) service. A wireless transmission is facilitated of a first broadcast message by the wireless base stations, wherein the first broadcast message identifies the group of wireless communication devices. The broadcast message is transmitted by way of the MBMS service of the wireless communication services. The first broadcast message initiates a state transition to an active state for a plurality of wireless communication devices of the group of wireless communication devices configured in an idle state. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9801157
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for communicating data in a wireless communications network are described herein. In some aspects, a station includes a first receiver and a low power circuit including a second receiver. The second receiver may be configured to consume less power than the first receiver. The second receiver receives short paging messages from another wireless device, such as an access point. The paging messages may trigger transitions of the first receiver from inactive doze or sleep states to active awake states based on Traffic Information Maps. Once in the awake state, the first receiver receives messages. This enables the first receiver to reduce the time spent awake, thereby reducing power consumption. A system and method for identifying and managing paging modes is described herein.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for refining, e.g., reducing, a paging area corresponding to a user equipment device, e.g., a cellular inactive UE device. Various embodiments are well suited for communications systems in which user equipment devices participate in peer to peer communications networks in which direct user device to user device communications are employed. A user equipment device participating in a peer to peer network transmits discovery signals. A femto base station and/or a cellular active UE device in the local vicinity of the UE device transmitting the peer to peer discovery signal eavesdrops on the peer discovery signaling and detects the presence of the cellular inactive UE device. The detection of the cellular inactive UE device is reported to a MME. The MME determines a paging area corresponding to the detected UE device based on the reported information and the location of the reporting device.

Abstract: A method is provided for supporting state mode transition by an entity of a cellular network in case that a plurality of networks interwork. When a value of interference caused by a neighbor entity of a wireless local area network (WLAN) is equal to or larger than a predefined threshold value, a first message instructing another entity of the WLAN to perform a mode transition from an active mode to an idle mode is transmitted to another entity of the WLAN. In response, a second message including information indicating whether status of the mode transition of the another entity of the WLAN is successful is received from the another entity of the WLAN. When the information indicates that the status of the mode transition of the another entity of the WLAN is successful, status information of the another entity of the WLAN is updated based on the second message.
