Synchronized Stations Patents (Class 455/502)
  • Patent number: 8023976
Abstract: A high accuracy clock synchronization mechanism between a sender and a receiver in a communication network achieves time synchronization using broadcast beacons, directly at the PHY/MAC layer of the sender and the receiver, to minimize synchronization delay jitter. This provides a more efficient synchronization method than either NTP or SNTP, because multiple handshaking information exchange is avoided. Further, using beacons avoids the overhead of introducing additional synchronization packets in higher layer synchronization.

  • Patent number: 8023938
Abstract: Signal properties of a signal section (106) comprising a training sequence are compared with corresponding signal properties of other signal sections (108, 110). At a too large discrepancy, co-sequence interference is concluded to be present. The used signal property can preferably be a signal-to-noise ratio measure or a signal statistics measure. If the existence of co-sequence interference (102) is concluded, measures can be taken to avoid such interference and to mitigate the effects of the interference. A method for mitigating effects of co-sequence interference in channel estimation comprises a joint detection and estimation procedure performed under constrictions assuming presence of co-sequence interference.

  • Patent number: 8014361
Abstract: In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) selects a random access channel (RACH) and a phase for a constant amplitude zero auto correlation (CAZAC) sequence for RACH transmission. The WTRU then transmits a RACH transmission to a Node B via the selected RACH. Once the RACH transmission is detected, the Node B sends an acknowledgement (ACK) to the WTRU over an ACK channel. The Node B may transmit the ACK on a shared channel. The WTRU may ramp up transmit power while the RACH transmission is transmitted, or steps up transmit power of a subsequent RACH transmission. The RACH transmission and data transmission may be either time multiplexed or frequency multiplexed. A plurality of RACHs may be defined and one of the defined RACHs may be selected randomly or based on predetermined criteria.

  • Patent number: 8010138
Abstract: A host base transceiver station BTS derives a reference timing signal from a physical layer training signal (such as a preamble) received from a neighbor network node/BTS. Downlink transmissions are then synchronized to the derived reference timing signal. This may be used as a holdover timing mode, such as when the host BTS determines that synchronization from a primary source is no longer reliable. In an embodiment, a reference oscillator of the host BTS is phase locked to the derived reference timing signal. Variations include one or multiple such training signals from one or multiple neighbor BTSs, selecting one BTS when the primary synchronization mechanism fails for several BTSs in the same area, and how to phase lock the oscillator without dithering about the target frequency. Apparatus and computer programs are also detailed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods, a communication network node and a user equipment for detecting collision of physical cell identities in a communication network system comprising radio base stations each serving at least one cell through which user equipments are moving. Reference signals comprising reference symbols corresponding to a physical cell identity are sent from said radio base stations to said user equipments over a radio interface. Transmission gaps of reference symbols are inserted in the reference signal in order to perform a physical cell identity collision test. The user equipments are arranged to detect if any other radio base station is sending reference symbols corresponding to the same physical cell identity during the transmission gaps. Thereby a physical cell identity collision is detected.

Abstract: A communication apparatus functioning as a mobile station may include a message receiver, a communication range determination unit, an existence determination unit, and a management signal output unit. The message receiver receives from a first control station a message that indicates a second control station. The communication range determination unit determines whether the apparatus is in a region within the second control station communication range. If the apparatus is in a region within the second control station communication range, then the existence determination unit determines whether there is another mobile station that belongs to a communication group of the first control station and exists in a region outside the second control station communication range. If the other mobile station is determined to exists, then the management signal output unit outputs a management signal as a third control station for constructing a communication group including the other mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7961700
Abstract: Multi-carrier point-to-multi-point CDMA system implementation reduces hardware changes in legacy single-carrier systems. The number of common downlink channels, such as timing/synchronization and paging channels, is reduced by designating an anchor carrier for transmitting these channels. Procedures for adding carriers and carrier acquisition are simplified through common carrier timing, signaling by the network to the user equipment (UE) of timing offsets and scrambling code selection, and other measures. Channel reuse is employed to minimize changes in asymmetric systems with different numbers of uplink and downlink carriers. Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) field is divided into multiple subfields to enable transmission of multiple CQIs and ACK/NACK indicators on one uplink carrier. Joint and separate scheduling schemes are shown for concurrent scheduling of a data stream transmission to a UE via multiple downlink carriers.
