  • Patent number: 7711008
Abstract: Aspects of the invention include a root node of a wireless communication infrastructure that buffers data packets for transmission by base stations over an air interface. The root node determines a time delay for transmission of a data packet from the root node to each base station, a maximum time delay of those time delays, and a timing latency based upon the maximum time delay. The root node transmits the timing latency to the base stations. In response, each base station initiates transmission of data packets received by the root node after expiration of the timing latency. Alternatively, the root node, instead of the base stations, may buffer the data packets, and transmit them so that they arrive at the base stations at substantially the same time.

  • Patent number: 7706751
Abstract: Provided is a method for transmitting and receiving data with low BER in presence of interference between subscriber stations. In the method each subscriber station is assigned to its own Unique Address Code (UAC) and to its own Encoded Information Group (EIG). A receiving device first attempts to detect the UAC of a transmitter device by comparing the incoming signal with the receiver's internal Reference Signal (RS). The Number of Continuous Clock Rate Periods (NCCRP) of the RS, which continuously matches with the incoming signal acts as the criteria for UAC detection. When the measured value of the NCCRP surpasses a Threshold Value of Matches, then the receiving device is synchronized with the transmitter device. Subsequently, the data is separated from interferences by measuring Voltage Hops of the level of the incoming signal at the start and end points of the “0” and “1” bits in the received signal.

Abstract: Techniques for allocating transmission gaps and making cell measurements in asynchronous communication networks are described. A terminal establishes communication with a first communication network (e.g., a W-CDMA network), receives an initial allocation of transmission gaps for making cell measurements, and makes measurements for cells in a second communication network (e.g., a GSM network) during the allocated transmission gaps. The terminal determines the timing of at least one cell in the second network, which is asynchronous with the first network, and sends the cell timing to the first network. The terminal then receives a new allocation of transmission gaps for making cell measurements. The locations of the transmission gaps in the new allocation are determined based on the cell timing reported by the terminal. The terminal makes measurements for the at least one cell in the second network during the transmission gaps in the new allocation.

Messages are exchanged between a network controller, the base stations and the mobile units, which messages include a change command (62) for changing a configuration, and a reconfiguration command (61) for changing a current configuration state to a next configuration state at a selected future time code (63). Traditionally a prepared reconfiguration period (67) for such a reconfiguration change was treated as a blocking period for further changes. According to the invention the prepared reconfiguration period is determined, and a prepared reconfiguration period indicator (66) is added to the change command. Hence other configuration changes can be effected during the prepared reconfiguration period.

Abstract: An integrity protection count synchronization method (200) initiates (210) a new connection when a user equipment (UE) is already in connected mode with a network. If new security keys are pending, the UE sends (250) a START value of zero in an initial direct transfer message. If no new security keys are pending, the UE sends (240) a non-zero START value based on a Universal Subscriber Interface Module (USIM). Sending a START value of zero when new security keys are pending at the UE forces the network's COUNT-I integrity count value to match the zero COUNT-I value at the UE, which prevents call set-up failure due to inability to pass an integrity protection security check.

  • Patent number: 7639728
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for generating and transmitting frequency division multiplexed signals are described. The methods are well suited for use where a device uses a small subset, M, of a larger set of N subcarrier frequencies at any given time. Each transmitted FDM signal is generated by combining a plurality of individual analog subcarrier signals whose frequency may change, e.g., be hopped as a function of time. Each generated analog subcarrier signal is amplified, e.g., power amplified, and filtered prior to being combined with other analog subcarrier signals. Filters are used to compensate for or correct signal distortions and/or reduce interference between subcarriers. Fixed frequency filters are used in an exemplary frequency hopping OFDM system. In another embodiment, the filters are programmable and change, e.g., in terms of center frequency, to match the selected subcarrier frequency as frequency hopping occurs. The bandwidth of the programmable filters may remain constant.

Abstract: In the case where a single user selectively uses plural wireless communication terminals by mounting and demounting a subscriber identification card thereon and therefrom, user convenience in such selective use of the plural terminals can be enhanced by synchronizing user data among those plural terminals. For this purpose, at least updated portion of the data stored in the memory in terminal is uploaded from the first terminal 10a on which SIM card (subscriber information card) 12 is mounted, to a server 50 via a communication network 20, according to a user's request or automatically. After the SIM card 12 demounted from the first terminal is mounted on the second terminal 10b or 10c, data to be downloaded to the second terminal from the server 50 is determined according to the user's request or automatically, and the data is downloaded to the second terminal from the server 50. In the second terminal, thus downloaded data is used to update the contents in the memory.

Abstract: A mobile apparatus and method of timing synchronization. The mobile apparatus comprises a timing synchronization controller, a frame detector, a decoder, and a clock generator. The timing synchronization controller determines a number of times of the mobile station clock switching from a first clock speed to a second clock speed, and compares the number of times of the mobile station clock switching the clock speed with a predetermined number of clock speed switch. The frame detector, coupled to the timing synchronization controller, receives a control channel block when the number of times of clock speed switch reaches the predetermined number of clock speed switch. The decoder, coupled to the frame detector, decodes the control channel block to compute a timing error between the base station clock and the mobile station clock. The clock generator, coupled to the decoder, receives the timing error to compensate for the mobile station clock.

Abstract: A clock rate used in rendering broadcast streaming audio/video data is adjusted to converge on a clock rate associated with broadcasting the streaming data. The clock rate is adjusted by monitoring the buffer depth associated with a receive buffer that stores the incoming streaming data. The buffer depth provides an estimate of clock drift between the two clock rates. From the estimate of clock drift, the clock rate used in rendering broadcast streaming data is adjusted to avoid the clock drift causing skips or pauses in the rendered audio/video data.
