Abstract: A method for transmitting radio resources in a mobile communication system is disclosed. The method includes receiving a random access channel (RACH) preamble from a plurality of UEs and transmitting response information associated with the received preambles over a common channel wherein the plurality UEs can access the common channel and receive corresponding information. If a HARQ scheme is used when a UE transmits data to the eNode-B using uplink radio resources allocated over the RACH, the eNode-B does not pre-allocate uplink radio resources required for re-transmission and performs allocation of radio resources for a first transmission of HARQ. If the re-transmission is required, the eNode-B allocates the radio resources required for the re-transmission with the NACK signal. If re-transmission is not required, the present invention can reduce an amount of wasted radio resources.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for gathering information about the eye of a high-speed serial data signal include sampling each bit of a repeating, multi-bit data pattern at several eye slice locations. For any given eye slice location, each bit in the data pattern is compared in voltage to a base line reference signal voltage to establish a reference value for that bit. Then the reference signal voltage is gradually increased while the voltage comparisons are repeated until for some bit a result of the comparing is different than the reference value for that bit. This establishes an upper value for the eye at the eye slice location. The reference signal voltage is then gradually decreased to similarly find a lower value for that eye slice.

The device contains a push-to-talk (PTT) button, a channel selector, and a keyboard containing hard or soft keys. The channel selector selects an initial frequency at which to receive and transmit, dependent on the group to which the device belongs. The device transmits when the PTT button is pressed. If a multiple PTT function is activated by software in the device, at least some of the keys are used to select a new transmission frequency. The device receives at the initial frequency independent of the transmission frequency. Abstract: An invention is disclosed whereby a wireless network node, equipped with two or more radio transceivers statically tuned to non-interfering frequency channels, can make decisions regarding which channel to use when communicating with a neighboring wireless node. A multi-radio unification protocol implemented in a wireless node coordinates the use of multiple wireless network interface cards and provides a virtual layer that hides the multiple physical network interfaces from higher layers of a node's network protocol stack. The invention is applicable to wireless networks generally, including those in which some nodes do not have multiple radios or do not recognize the multi-radio unification protocol. The invention makes possible simultaneous transmissions using available channels, thereby reducing interference and delay while increasing the overall capacity of the network.

An OFDM waveform is generated for each downlink OFDM slot and multiplexed onto the slot. A W-CDMA waveform is generated for each downlink W-CDMA slot and multiplexed onto the slot. A modulated signal is generated for the multiplexed W-CDMA and OFDM waveforms and transmitted on the downlink. Each physical channel is transmitted in bursts. The slot allocation and coding and modulation for each physical channel can change for each super-frame.

Abstract: Techniques for intra-frequency searching in the presence of frequency gaps are disclosed. In one embodiment, a search is scheduled and frequency switches are suppressed during the scheduled search. In another embodiment, a search is scheduled in between anticipated frequency gaps. In yet another embodiment, a timer is deployed, the expiration of which indicates a search is to be scheduled. In yet another embodiment, a timer is deployed, the expiration of which indicates a search is to be scheduled and frequency switches are suppressed during the scheduled search. Various other embodiments are also presented. Benefits include allowing prescribed levels of intra-frequency and inter-frequency search to be performed which allows for improved base station selection and therefore improved performance and system capacity.

Abstract: A jitter measurement circuit and a method for calibrating the jitter measurement circuit are disclosed. The jitter measurement circuit includes a synchronous dual-phase detector and a decision circuit. In a test mode, a probability distribution function (PDF) of the jitter of a clock signal output by a circuit under test is obtained. In a calibration mode, a random clock, which is externally generated or generated by a free-run oscillator in the circuit under test, is used to calibrate the synchronous dual-phase detector. The decision circuit performs logic operations, data latching and counting on a phase relationship detected by the synchronous dual-phase detector in order to obtain a counting value and a PDF relative to the jitter of the clock signal.

  • Patent number: 7873000
Abstract: There are disclosed a random access method for establishing an individual channel between a radio communication terminal device and a base station device in a short time and a radio communication terminal device executing the random access method. In this device, in step ST320, a RACH sub-channel allocation unit (211) allocates a transmission packet inputted from a replication unit (202) to an arbitrary sub-carrier at the RACH arbitrary time slot at random. In step ST330, an allocation unit (210) judges whether an overlap is generated in the allocation result obtained by the RACH sub-channel allocation unit (211). When the allocation unit (210) judges that an overlap is generated in the allocation result, the allocation unit (210) causes one of the RACH sub-channel allocation units (211) which has caused the overlap to again perform allocation of step ST320. On the other hand, when judgment is made that no overlap is generated in the allocation result, step ST340 is executed.

Abstract: A system for a mobile wireless communications device configured to stream video to a peer device over a mobile wireless network, the device configured to increase the radio channel capacity between the wireless communication devices and the network to allow faster video encoding and transmission. The video transmitting device receives measurements on radio conditions related to the radio channels carrying the video and determines if the radio conditions can support an increased channel capacity. If so, the transmitting device sends a request to the network to increase capacity on the radio channels. If the network determines that the other resources transporting the video can support an increase in traffic resulting from an increase in the radio channel capacity, then the network sends orders to carry out a radio channel capacity increase.

Abstract: A numerically-controlled phase-lock loop with input clock dependent ratio adjustment provides for narrower-bandwidth loops that lock to a wide range of frequencies and/or operation with an absent or degraded input timing reference. A timing reference characteristic detector determines an input frequency range of the input timing reference signal, the data type of the timing reference, and/or whether a timing reference signal of sufficient quality is present. A numerically controlled oscillator is controlled by a numeric ratio that is adjusted to provide the desired clock frequency output in conformity with the detected frequency range and/or data type. If the timing reference signal is absent or degraded, then the numeric ratio can be set to a fixed value or a local timing reference can be applied in order to generate the desired clock output frequency.
