  • Patent number: 10237692
Abstract: The present disclosure provides system and methods for a sharing geographic location. A local terminal may be configured to display a map interface including a graphic indicator. The graphic indicator may correspond to a remote geographic location of a remote terminal. The local terminal may be further configured to receive a selection signal directed at the graphic indicator to track the remote terminal. In response to the signal, the local terminal may repeatedly receive a geographic location information update corresponding to the remote terminal. The geographic location information update may include an updated geographic location of the remote terminal. In addition, the local terminal may update a travel route indicative of a path between the updated geographic location of the remote terminal and a target geographic location. The terminal may display the travel route on the map interface in real time.

  • Patent number: 8577404
Abstract: An embodiment is directed to switching between server-arbitrated group communication sessions at an access terminal (AT) within a wireless communications system. The AT participates in a first group communication session when it receives an announce message announcing a second group communication session, acquires priority levels for the first and/or second group communication sessions and determines whether to switch between sessions based on the priority level(s). In another embodiment, the AT participates in a given processing task (e.g., a gaming session, a voice call, a group session, etc.) when it receives an alert that relates to a group communication session. If the alert is specially configured to force the given access terminal to drop the given processing task, the AT drops the given processing task irrespective of whether the AT later joins the announced group communication session.

  • Patent number: 8432904
Abstract: An arrangement for providing, on an ad hoc basis, a closed user group (CUG) among a collection of pre-defined IP network users. A set of intelligent access devices, dispersed through the IP network, constantly transmit a set of pings associated with the defines CUGs to discover those devices within its communication range. The discovered IP addresses for each device is thus constantly updated, allowing group members to remain in constant contact (emulating an “always on” connection). The users feels they are always connected with group members and thus have instant access to voice/data/video sessions—much like hot lines or “always on” connections.

  • Patent number: 8427996
Abstract: A method for selecting a channel for group communications in a conventional multi-channel communication system comprises receiving, for a plurality of channels in the multi-channel communication system, a talkgroup assignment list for the channels that identifies a set of talkgroups assigned to use the corresponding channels. A subscriber unit receives talkgroup assignment lists for multiple different channels, determines a desired talkgroup, and selects a channel assigned to the desired talkgroup using the received talkgroup assignment. The talkgroup assignment list is developed for at least one channel in the multi-channel communication system and identifies a set of talkgroups assigned to use the corresponding channel. The list is transmitted for the channel to a subscriber unit and is used by the subscriber unit to register with the system and affiliate with a talkgroup supported by the channel in the conventional multi-channel communication system.

  • Patent number: 8417289
Abstract: A method, a system and a computer program product for determining one or more characteristics of a caller, utilizing the biometric characteristics of the caller. One or more biometric characteristics are detected when a request to place an outgoing call to one or more destinations is received at a first telecommunication device. When the request to place an outgoing call is a verbal request, one or more biometric voice samples are obtained. The biometric voice samples comprise the biometric characteristics of the caller. The biometric characteristics are extracted from the biometric voice samples, encoded into a datagram, and transmitted from the first telecommunication device to the outgoing call destination (i.e. a second telecommunication device). When the biometric characteristics are analyzed at the second telecommunication device, a display is generated depicting the mood, gender, age, urgency or other characteristics of the caller associated with the incoming call.
