  • Publication number: 20140011534
Abstract: In a cellular communication network, a method of dynamic mobility management in which a base station employing cell-breathing or other similar energy-efficiency mechanism notifies User Equipments (UEs) in its cell, either via broadcasting or with direct over-the-air signaling, that such a mechanism is utilized within the cell. The base station may also notify neighbor base stations of its use of cell-breathing. The neighbor base stations disseminate this information to UEs within their own cells, and consider this information when deciding whether to hand over a UE to a base station that is capable of performing cell-breathing. The base station may also inform UEs in the cell and/or neighbor base stations when it is preparing to reduce transmission power. UEs store information regarding which base stations use cell-breathing, and consider this information when performing cell reselections.

  • Patent number: 8626166
Abstract: The present invention relates to a subscription-based measurement concept where the detailed parameters for a certain measurement report are set by a measurement provider, i.e. a radio base station, instead of the measurement requester. For this purpose the measurement provider “publishes” a certain set of measurements that controller units for radio resource management (RRM) can subscribe to. According to the present invention parameters of measurements are defined in detail in the measuring entity, i.e. the target radio base station, as opposed to being defined by the requesting entity, i. e. the RRM controller.

  • Patent number: 8626162
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate distributing and/or utilizing a Closed Subscriber Group (CSG) Identifier (ID) that identifies a CSG corresponding to a base station and a CSG indication that distinguishes between the base station permitting access to members of the CSG and permitting access to members and non-members of the CSG. For instance, the CSG ID can uniquely identify the CSG corresponding to the base station. A mobile device can receive the CSG ID and the CSG indication from the base station. Further, the received CSG ID can be compared to CSG IDs included in an allowed CSG list to recognize whether the mobile device is a member or a non-member of the CSG. Moreover, a preference for selecting the base station as compared to a disparate base station can be generated as a function of the received CSG ID and CSG indication.

Abstract: A method includes determining, at a first cell and for a selected user equipment, a second cell would have a better performing RF interface connection with the selected user equipment than the selected user equipment currently has with the first cell. The first cell can provide radio frequency coverage for the second cell. The method includes sending to the second cell one or more messages indicating the second cell should not enter or be in an energy saving state at least while the selected user equipment or a selected user application on the selected user equipment is connected to the second cell. Another method includes determining a cell should not enter an energy saving state at least while a selected user equipment is connected to the cell; and the cell not entering the energy saving state at least while the selected user equipment is connected to the cell.

Abstract: A communication system performing a coordinated multipoint transmission is provided. A mobile station may measure expected channel quality information when an interference of a serving base station does not exist. The serving base station may determine whether a neighbor base station and the serving base station are eligible to perform the coordinated multipoint transmission. The serving base station may determine whether the neighbor base station and the serving base station are eligible to perform the coordinated multipoint transmission using a criterion associated with an evaluation of an increase in a transmission rate of the mobile station.

Abstract: A prioritized measurement list is stored in a memory, and each entry in the prioritized measurement list defines a unique combination of frequency layer and radio access technology for a serving cell and for neighbor cells. Based on at least signal strength of the serving cell, there is selected, from a neighbor list according to the prioritized measurement list, a set of entries for measuring according to a selection rule. The selection rule provides: for the case in which the signal strength of the serving cell is relatively high, the selected set is a first set and represents higher priority ones of the prioritized measurement list; and for the case in which the signal strength of the serving cell is relatively low, the selected set is a second set and represents lower priority ones of the prioritized measurement list.
