Wireless Private Branch Exchange (pbx) (i.e., Wireless Link To Extension Unit) Patents (Class 455/555)
  • Patent number: 7684825
Abstract: The invention provides a method of selecting a modem carrier type for data transmission over a wireless communication system. An incoming call is received from a mobile vehicle and then an initial carrier tone is sent to a mobile vehicle in response to the incoming call. A modem response signal is received from a vehicle modem in response to the initial carrier tone. The modem response signal is determined to be either an analog modem response signal or a digital modem response signal, and then the call is connected to either the analog modem or digital modem based on the modem response signal determination.

  • Patent number: 7542780
Abstract: A PBX (10) is connected to a mobile telephony network (40) via a PSTN (20) and via a LAN (90) and data network (30). A mobile telephone (50) served by the mobile network, has a separate data channel (100). The invention describes a way to integrate mobile telephones as extensions of the PBX and to provide them with functionality similar to that of a wired digital PBX system telephone (70). The data channel of the mobile telephone is used to give the PBX access to the user interface devices of the telephone. The speech path between the PBX and the mobile telephone may be set up in the direction from the PBX to the mobile telephone, even when the call was initiated at the telephone. The invention relies only on the basic voice and data communications services of the mobile telephony network, and therefore provides independence from the network operator.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for bridging mobile phone networks with other telephone networks. A telephone network comprises multiple individually addressable telephone lines connected to telephones and to a gateway, which in turn is connected to one or more mobile phones and potentially to one or more landlines. When the gateway receives an inbound call from one of the mobile phones, or an outbound call from one or the telephones, the gateway applies routing rules to determine how to route the call. Routing may depend on a variety of factors, such as time of day, cost, the mobile phone receiving an inbound call. To help identify the mobile phone as the source of an inbound call, a distinctive ring may be selected. To account for differences in the mobile phone network and the telephone network, the gateway translates signals between the two networks.

  • Patent number: 7257205
Abstract: A system for (and a method of) selectively establishing communication with one of plural devices associated with a single telephone number during a disaster or disaster recovery period. In a preferred embodiment, the system includes two wireless connection units, each connected between a respective private branch exchange (PBX) network and a public switched telephone network. Each wireless connection unit preferably serves as a gateway between its respective PBX network and one or more remote communication devices. The wireless connection units replicate each others databases. In the event of a disaster that destroys or renders one of the wireless connect/PBX networks inoperable, telephone calls destined for the inoperable network are seamlessly routed to the operable wireless connect/PBX network. Since the operable wireless connection unit contains information for both networks, inbound, outbound and extension to extension calls for each network can be handled despite the disaster.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for allowing emergency calling with a Global System for Mobile (GSM) radiotelephone during temperature extremes includes a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card, a temperature sensor; and a controller that detects when the radiotelephone has a SIM card error, whereupon the controller obtains a temperature measurement from the temperature sensor. If it is found that the temperature measurement is outside of an operating temperature range of the SIM card, the controller permits the radiotelephone to make an emergency calls only.

  • Patent number: 7227853
Abstract: A method is provided that includes receiving a request from a communication device to establish a communication session with a mobile station, the mobile station being operable to roam between a private and a public network. The mobile station is signaled via a cellular data network that a call is being initiated for the mobile station. Signaling information may be exchanged with a voice gateway such that one or more voice circuits are established. A signaling pathway may be established between an Internet protocol private branch exchange (IP PBX) and the mobile station via the cellular data network. The establishment of the signaling pathway is substantially concurrent with the establishment of one or more of the voice circuits. One or more features associated with a private network are delivered to the mobile station during the communication session as an end user moves between the public and private networks.

  • Patent number: 7177664
Abstract: An interconnect device for connecting a Bluetooth compliant cellular telephone to one or more wired telephones on an existing wired network. The interconnect device includes an interface to the wired network that emulates the behavior of a standard trunk line to a central office and includes a Bluetooth transceiver which communicates via short-range radio signaling with a Bluetooth transceiver in the cellular telephone. The interconnect device permits an outgoing call to be placed via the cellular telephone network from a conventional wired telephone by sending dial tone to the wired telephone when the cellular telephone is in range and not in use, accepting a called number from the wired telephone to the cellular telephone to initiate an outgoing call, and establishing a voice link between the wired telephone and the remote answering party via the Bluetooth transceivers and the cellular network.

  • Patent number: 7174175
Abstract: A telecommunication system intended for providing telecommunication services at a semiconductor manufacturing plant under the circumstances of shielded areas of clean rooms comprises a GSM base station installed at the plant and equipped with a plurality of low power antennas, a private branch exchange and at least two dedicated lines of E1 type connecting the base station and the PBX to a public switched telephone network. Software incorporated in the base station and PBX allows for telecommunication connections set up at the plant to use abbreviated four-digit numbers for both wireless mobile stations and wired stations, while keeping the possibility to reach a mobile station, even if it is outside the plant at the time of the connection, dialing the abbreviated four-digit number.

Abstract: A system for (and a method of) selectively establishing communication with one of plural devices associated with a single telephone number is provided. In a preferred embodiment, the system includes a wireless connect unit connected between an enterprise private branch exchange (PBX) network and a public switched telephone network. The wireless connect unit preferably serves as a gateway between the PBX and one or more remote communication devices. The remote devices can be used as standard PBX office telephones for both inbound and outbound telephone calls. Thus, features of the PBX network (e.g., voice mail, direct extension dialing, corporate calling plan, etc.) are available to the remote device even though they are not physically connected to the PBX. When the system receives an incoming call, it can route the call to an office telephone and one or more of the remote devices simultaneously or as desired by the user.

  • Patent number: 7149514
Abstract: A system for communicating with the user of a cellular telephone via the cellular mobile radio (CMR) system and the public switched telephone network (PSTN). A communications interface appends the telephone exchange number of an outgoing communication to include an identifier unique to the communications interface. The outgoing communication is transmitted by the cellular telephone to the CMR system, which recognizes and verifies the outgoing communication as originating with the communications interface. Accordingly, the origination of the outgoing communication from a communications interface is documented prior to forwarding the outgoing communication to its intended recipient via the PSTN. Communications incoming to a communications interface are authenticated as such, and a record as to this is created, prior to forwarding the incoming communication to the cellular telephone.
