Abstract: A system and method to obtain a nickname for records, particularly records having number fields. A set of triplets is identified in a record 401. Criteria, at least at a strict level, is set to establish that used triplets are many, and hard to avoid 403. Using this criteria, triplets may be processed in order 405. Each triplet is checked against the criteria 407. Avoidance of the used criteria, i.e. that the current triplet is not used, enables the triplet to be associated with the record 413. Failure to avoid the used criteria enables a loop to continue if the exit criteria 409 is not met. A next triplet is obtained 410 if the inner loop continues. Otherwise, a check to get a more relaxed used triplet criteria is made 411. If a relaxed used triplet criteria is available 411, the relaxed used triplet criteria (having fewer used triplets) is used 415, and an outer loop continues with processing of the list of triplets 405 again. Otherwise, a triplet may manually be associated with the record 417.

Abstract: A method of dialling a number using a print medium is disclosed. The method starts by sensing coded data on a surface of the print medium using a sensor module of a mobile telecommunications device. From the coded information a print media identifier and a position of the sensor module relative to the print medium are determined. Next, using the print media identifier and the position, the number is obtained from a database. Finally, the number is dialled using the mobile telecommunications device.

Abstract: The method is presented for speed dial configuration of a mobile terminal for a mobile telecommunications network. The method involves the following steps in the mobile terminal. A speed dial command is detected from a user of the mobile terminal, whereupon communication is established with a remote service over the mobile telecommunications network. First information pertaining to a desired communication party is provided to the remote service. In return, configuration data containing second information pertaining to the desired communication party is received from the remote service, the second information including a caller identity of the desired communication party. Finally, the mobile terminal is configured for future speed dialing to the desired communication party by storing, in local memory in the mobile terminal, an association between the speed dial command and the caller identity. An associated method, mobile terminal, remote service apparatus, system and computer program are also presented.

Abstract: An advanced telecommunications system is provided for the recognizing of spoken commands over a cellular telephone, satellite telephone, or personal communications network. In the cellular application, for example, a Speech Recognition System interconnects either internally with or as an external peripheral to a cellular telecommunications switch. The Speech Recognition System includes an administrative subsystem, a call processing subsystem, a speaker-dependent recognition subsystem, a speaker-independent recognition subsystem, and a data storage subsystem. The Speech Recognition System also allows for increased efficiency in the cellular telephone network by integrating with the switch or switches as a shared resource. The administrative subsystem of the Speech Recognition System is used to keep statistical logs of pertinent call information. Pre-recorded instructional messages are stored in the memory of the call processing subsystem for instructing a user on his or her progress in using the system.

Abstract: Digits entered by a user are compared against phone numbers maintained in a lists such as address book, phone book, most recent calls, and most often called lists, etc. A number in the lists having matching digits corresponding the digits entered by the user is selected. The user entered digits are displayed in a normal font, and remaining digits from the selected number are displayed in a reverse or highlighted font. In one embodiment, if multiple matches occur, a scroll button allows the user to scroll through the each of the matched numbers. Alternatively, a drop down menu displays the matched numbers in a user selectable format.

Abstract: A method of transmitting one text message to a plurality of receivers is disclosed. The method includes inputting numbers of the receivers and a text message to be transmitted, determining a type of a transmission speed of the inputted text message, and transmitting the inputted text message of the determined type to numbers of the respective receivers. If the text message transmission succeeds, the method further includes confirming whether any further receivers of the text message exist and, if so, inputting new numbers of the further receivers and re-transmitting the corresponding text message to the new numbers of the further receivers. In inputting the phone numbers of the receivers, the sender can transmit the text message more rapidly and conveniently using the phonebook function and one-touch dial function.

Abstract: A communication terminal, computer program product and method thereof by which an image set for a phone number can be provided using a plurality of partial images in inputting a phone number to which a call signal will be transmitted. Also, a display for displaying information, a user input unit for inputting a plurality of digits configuring a phone number, and a controller for controlling the display to complete an image including at least one or more partial images by sequentially displaying the at least one or more partial images, when a plurality of the digits are inputted via the user input unit.

Abstract: A method of performing expedited communication functions on a mobile device includes monitoring the duration-of key press on a keyboard of the mobile device and determining if the monitored duration of the key press is greater than a threshold duration. If the monitored duration of the key press is determined to be less than a threshold duration, then a primary key function associated with the pressed key is activated. If the monitored duration of the key press is determined to be greater than a threshold duration, then an expedited communication function associated with the pressed key is activated.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for speed dialing in a mobile communication system are provided. In the method, a speed dial code is input and transmitted to a SIM card. A dialing number corresponding to the speed dial code is detected from the SIM card. The detected dialing number is transmitted to a User Equipment (UE) through a mechanism of Call Control by SIM.

Abstract: A mobile radio device improves its operability with a simple configuration and facilitates the pointing operation of a pointer displayed on a screen to a desired area. First apparatus displays a first area, a second area, and a pointer on a screen. The second area is partitioned by a boundary and located outside the first area. The pointer is movable on the screen according to a user's operation. Second apparatus acquires position information of the pointer on the screen. Third apparatus sets positional information of the first area and the second area. Fourth apparatus notifies with vibration, sound, and/or light the user a fact that the pointer is moved on the screen across the boundary between the first area and the second area based on the position information of the pointer acquired by the second apparatus and the positional information of the first area and the second area set by the third apparatus.

An address book on the cellular phone is opened (S101, S102), and a name of a communication destination and the access information are selected by use of the address book (S103 to S105). vCard-formatted data is created based on the content selected (S108), and the created data is transmitted to the MFP (S109). The MFP analyzes the vCard-formatted data received from the cellular phone (S201, S202), and the communications are performed by use of the access information contained in the vCard-formatted data (S203 to S216).

Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to improved message addressing techniques. In one embodiment, a computing device may comprise a messaging client arranged to receive an input sequence of alphabetic or alphanumeric characters as a destination of an outbound message. The messaging client may recognize that the input sequence represents a mnemonic short code and may automatically generate a common short code comprising a sequence of numeric digits associated with the mnemonic short code. The messaging client may display both the input sequence comprising the mnemonic short code and the common short code and enable the outbound message to be sent using the common short code as the destination. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a emergency notification capability is provided by providing a wireless pendant for each user of the system, which sends a signal to a central computer whenever an emergency condition is perceived. The central computer may then send a signal to a telephone dialing device assigned to the wireless pendant, causing the device to dial an emergency telephone number. Optionally, the central computer may select the telephone dialing device that is nearest in location to the user, by using standard techniques known to the art.

Abstract: A telephone is described that allows any arbitrary combination of key strokes, including numerical keys, extension keys, as well as function keys such as TRANSFER, CONFERENCE, etc., to be programmed such that the entire sequence of key strokes can be recalled with the touch of a single button. The phone can be programmed directly by operation of the telephone user interface on the phone (i.e., the keys, phone display, and speaker prompting the user) and a program button dedicated to the feature of programming a separate programmable button to map to the specified key sequence. The feature can be implemented in advanced telephones capable of voice over Internet Protocol networks, and supporting the Session Initiation Protocol. In these more advanced phones, the programming can be done by a system administrator or by the user of the phone via a computer with internet access.

Abstract: The invention relates to a controlling arrangement for a music player application in a mobile communication device. To improve the control of the music player, a multifunctional soft button (100) with four switching positions (up, down left and right) and a mode switching arrangement (110) are provided on the keyboard layout (10). The application can be switched in two different modes with the switching arrangement and can be controlled with the multifunctional soft button, the latter having different functionality depending on the mode of the application. Combined functionality of the multifunctional soft button from the first and second mode is also possible. Additional symbols related to the music player functionality are printed in different colors on the multifunctional soft switch.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and device for searching for a telephone number in a mobile terminal having a direction key that consists of a left arrow, a right arrow, an up arrow and a down arrow. The method includes displaying one or more consecutive digits input by a user in a standby mode of the mobile terminal; and when a quick search key and any arrow of the direction key are pressed simultaneously, searching for a telephone number including the displayed digits in a position corresponding to the pressed arrow.

Abstract: Disclosed is method for searching for a telephone number and performing a function using the detected telephone number on a mobile terminal, which includes checking whether an input by a user in a standby mode is a number of consecutive digits, searching a telephone number database (DB) in the mobile terminal to detect and display telephone numbers having the inputted number of consecutive digits, searching the telephone number DB when the input by the user is a character or characters to detect and display telephone numbers of people having names corresponding to the inputted character or characters, displaying a menu of functions available using any of the displayed telephone numbers. The user can input a keyword for a telephone number in an idle state of the mobile terminal; without the need to select a separate menu for telephone number search.

Abstract: The emergency signal device includes an emergency key on the phone, an independent IC chip set controlling the emergency functions, a dedicated memory chip for emergency information and a by-passing outlet to the cell phone's transmitting parts. It is further provided that the device includes a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, so that the person in danger may always be located. This device utilizes rechargeable solar cells to provide energy. All of its components are powered by a solar cell or solar cell charged battery.

Abstract: A mobile device and method in one example for automatically redialing a dialed number when a call has failed is provided. The mobile device stores the dialed number when the call is initially being placed. If the call fails, the mobile device determines if a call retry service should be invoked. If so, the mobile device determines whether a call retry system has already been enabled. If the call retry system has been enabled, the mobile device will continually and automatically call the dialed number until a terminating party at the dialed number answers or a selectable time limit has expired. When the terminating party answers the call, the mobile device rings so that a subscriber of the mobile device may answer the ring and connect the call. The mobile device may also detect if the dialed number is an emergency number or non-emergency number. A recorded message recorded by the subscriber may be automatically played to the terminating party if the subscriber does not answer the ring.

Abstract: A handheld communication device and method is provided that facilitates improved device usability. The handheld communication device and method uses a touch screen interface, where the touch screen comprises a proximity sensor adapted to detect object motion in a sensing region, a display screen overlapping the sensing region, and a processor. The touch screen is adapted to provide user interface functionality on the communication device by facilitating the display of user interface elements and the selection and activation of corresponding functions. The handheld communication device and method are configured to display representations of calls on the display screen, and are further configured to initiate conference calls responsive to sensed object motion beginning at a first call representation and continuing toward a second call representation. Thus, a user can initiate a conference call with a relatively simple and easy to perform gesture on the touch screen.

Abstract: A processor-implemented method of placing telephone calls includes determining if a phone call initiated to a phone number has connected. If the phone call did not connect, then the processor determines if the phone number has an associated replace code for any subset of the phone number. If a replace code is determined to exist, then the processor replaces the subset of the phone number with the corresponding replace code to obtain a replace code number and initiates a phone call to the replace code number.

The local time of the potential called party is provided prior to or while initiating a call so that the user of the telephone system can determine whether it is appropriate time to call the potential called party.

Abstract: A mobile terminal and method of generating a key signal therein are disclosed, by which the key signal can be generated in a manner of adjusting touch sensitivity. The present invention includes a touchpad for a key signal input, a controller generating a key signal corresponding to a touched position if the touchpad is touched by a user and a strength of the touch is equal to or greater than a reference value, and a sensitivity adjusting unit adjusting the reference value.

Abstract: A method of facilitating the initiation of an outgoing phone call on a handheld electronic device including receiving a request to initiate the outgoing phone call and determining whether additional user action is required in order to initiate the outgoing phone call. If it is determined that additional user action is required, the method further includes: (i) displaying a prompt on the handheld electronic device that indicates that the additional user action must be taken in order to initiate the outgoing phone call, and (ii) providing an alert, such as an audible signal, that is separate from the prompt. Abstract: A master database stores a speed dial list associated with a user of multiple telecommunications services. The database shares the speed dial list with the telecommunication services such that a single speed dial list serves all of the user's telecommunications services. The database receives speed dial list changes made through one of the telecommunications services and shares the speed dial list changes with the other telecommunications services that the speed dial list is maintained in synchronicity amongst the telecommunications services. As a result, the user does not have to manually keep separate speed dial lists synchronized nor does the user have to memorize or access separate speed dial lists. The speed dial list is locally accessible to the user by being stored on a user phone. The speed dial list is also remotely accessible to the user as the database receives user queries from the user via a user phone.

The information associated with the feature is configured to teach the user how the feature may be executed, the availability of additional features, how to utilize the feature better, or a combination thereof. Abstract: To access to a multimedia service designated by a call number in a mobile terminal connected to a radio communication network, a server predefines a correspondence table comprising call numbers associated with respective service identifiers and transmit it to the mobile terminal which stores it. When a call number is entered and confirmed by a channel seizing key in the terminal, an application determines the service identifier associated with the call number in the table and requests the setting up of a call with a server providing a multimedia service as a function of the determined service identifier. The call number can be transmitted to the server in order for the server to transmit a confirmation message comprising the call number or an address associated with the call number in order for the application to request the setting up of a call.

Abstract: An apparatus for temporarily storing phone numbers and short messages is disclosed. The apparatus includes a housing including electronics operable to receive an input and display a sequence of no more than seventeen characters in response to the input. The electronics include at least two electronic displays operable to display the sequence of no more than seventeen characters and a keypad operable to receive the sequence of no more than seventeen characters. The keypad includes twenty-six alphabetic keys, each alphabetic key representing a letter of the alphabet ranging from A to Z and ten numeric keys, each numeric key representing a single number ranging from zero (0) to nine (9). A clear key operable to clear the last character of the sequence of no more than seventeen characters and a processor is operably coupled to the at least two electronic displays and the keypad to convert the input into an alphanumeric character to be displayed by at least one of the two electronic displays.

Abstract: A mobile terminal for providing a mobile service and a method for storing and finding a phone number using the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal stores and manages country code information, a mobile service subscriber's registration information, and mobile service usage history information; automatically generates a country code of a country where the mobile terminal is located using the mobile service subscriber's registration information and mobile service usage history information; and executes a phone number storage command or a phone number search command using the country code. Where an international roaming service is executed by a user's moving from one country to another country, the mobile terminal can automatically generate a country code or store an arbitrary phone number. Thus, there is no need for mobile service users to manually enter a country code in their mobile terminal when roaming service is executed.

The method of generating a group picture in a phonebook of a mobile communication terminal includes selecting an original picture in which an image corresponding to each member of a group is displayed in a predetermined area corresponding to the group member, mapping an address of each group member to the corresponding predetermined area in the original picture and storing the original picture to which the group members' addresses are mapped as a group picture of the phonebook. The present apparatus and method enable easier editing and use of a group of a phonebook and characteristic decoration thereof which allow for more efficient use of the mobile terminal.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal and method for processing missed events are disclosed. A user can check missed events on a wait screen at a glance and rapidly respond to the missed events. A controller stores the missed events received in a wait state. When the wait state is changed to an enabled state, an event displaying unit displays event icons associated with the missed events on key cells of a touch keypad. When an event icon is touched, a function executing unit executes a function associated with the touched event icon. A display changes from the wait screen to the function executing screen. Since the missed events are displayed as event icons on the touch keypad, a user can read a state of the missed events at a glance. As well, the user can read contents of the missed events that are associated with the event icon touched on the function executing screen, and rapidly respond to the missed events.

Abstract: A method and system for monitoring calls being made from a cellular phone and preventing calls being made to unauthorized numbers, as defined by the owner of the cellular phone. A security challenge is issued to a cell phone user when a suspicious, previously unknown telephone number is attempted to be called. Approved/safe numbers and/or area codes are stored within the phone and/or in a subscriber's account accessible and updated via the Internet. If the user is unable to provide the correct security code in response to the challenge, the user is prevented from making the call to the particular number.

Abstract: Disclosed is a mobile communication device for searching data based on a rotation angle. The mobile communication device includes a body; a geomagnetic sensor for detecting a rotation angle of the body based on an axis perpendicular to the earth surface; a main memory for storing an image corresponding to the rotation angle; a display unit for displaying the image on a screen; and a control unit for, if the rotation angle detected in the geomagnetic sensor is changed, extracting an image corresponding to the changed rotation angle from the main memory and controlling the display unit to display the image. With this technology, data can be searched conveniently without manipulating keys many times.

Abstract: An information processing unit, such as a mobile phone, equipped with a fingerprint sensor and which reconciles size reduction with operability at a high level. A V-shaped groove is provided adjacent an operation panel, the V-shaped groove containing a first slope stretching away from the operation panel and slanting downward and a second slope stretching further away from the operation panel and slanting upward. The V-shaped groove may contain a fingerprint sweep sensor which detects a fingerprint on a finger moved along the first slope and the second slope.
