  • Publication number: 20130130750
Abstract: A multi-mode power amplifier includes a high-power mode amplifier circuit, a mid-power mode amplifier circuit, and a low power amplifier circuit, where the low-power mode amplifier circuit comprises a plurality of independently selectable power cell/amplifier branches. The multi-mode power amplifiers selectively enable or disable amplifier branches to provide multiple levels of amplification. Selectively enabling certain of a plurality of split collector amplifier branches provides multiple low power and ultra-low power amplifier modes without the impedance mismatch or board layout problems associated with an RF switch.

  • Publication number: 20130109441
Abstract: Embodiments provide systems and methods for aligning the supply voltage signal applied to a power amplifier (PA) with the radio frequency (RF) output signal of the PA in a wireless device. The RF output signal is generated by applying a transmit signal to a transmit path of the wireless device. The supply voltage is generated by applying an envelope tracking (ET) signal, based on the transmit signal, to an envelope tracking (ET) path of the wireless device. Embodiments operate by estimating the delays of the ET path and the transmit path, and then controlling a relative delay between the transmit signal and the ET signal accordingly. In an embodiment, estimation of the delays of the ET path and the transmit path is done by correlating respective signals of each path.

Abstract: Embodiments provide systems and methods for producing an envelope tracking (ET) PA supply voltage with minimum headroom relative to the desired RF output signal of the PA. In an embodiment, the PA supply voltage is generated by applying an ET signal to an ET path of the wireless device, and by further applying pre-emphasis to the ET signal to compensate for a frequency response of the ET path. Embodiments operate by estimating the frequency response of the ET path and determining the pre-emphasis based on the estimate of the frequency response of the ET path. In embodiments, the pre-emphasis is applied using a pre-emphasis filter, which may be within or outside of the ET path. Further, the pre-emphasis may be applied to the ET signal in digital or analog form.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for reducing power consumption of a receiver in a mobile communication network comprising a sender transmitting packet data on a downlink channel to one or more receivers over a radio interface. Inactive time instants and listening time instants are defined according to provided rules. The receiver is arranged to listen for information from the sender during the listening time instants and to sleep during the inactive time instants. Thus, less power will be consumed during the inactive time instants.

Abstract: An antenna system is disclosed. A wireless device includes two antennas. The first antenna is optimized at a first frequency band. The second antenna is optimized at a second frequency band. The signals received from respective optimized frequency bands are used as primary received signals. The signals having frequencies beyond respective optimized frequency bands are used as diversity signals. Likewise, the signals transmitted from a transceiver to base stations are sent to respective antennas based upon their frequency bands. By employing this optimized antenna configuration, the wireless device can provide high quality wireless signals for both frequency bands.

Abstract: A passively re-radiating cell phone sleeve assembly capable of conforming to and nesting with a cell phone provides a partial enclosure capable of fitting over at least a portion of the cell phone. A multi-layer radio frequency (RF) coupling probe is fully embedded within the enclosure in a position that is in close proximity to an internal antenna of the cell phone when the enclosure is nested with the cell phone. A coupling probe is inductively coupled to the internal antenna for sharing RF signals and is desensitized from de-tuning the internal antenna of the cell phone. An external antenna is mounted on the enclosure; and a transmission line embedded within the enclosure joins the coupling probe and the external antenna for RF signal transfer. RF transmission signals of the cell phone are radiated from both the internal and the external antennae simultaneously and without mutual interference.

  • Patent number: RE43308
Abstract: A method and apparatus to perform a real-time drift correction of a remote handset's local oscillator in a digital cordless telephone. The remote handset begins in a standby (sniff) mode. The remote handset periodically wakes from a sleep mode and goes into a normal link verification mode. Once in the link verification mode, the remote handset enters a time division duplexing (TDD) mode and attempts to establish a link with a base unit based on the timing of the TDD data frame. After the remote handset establishes a link with the base unit, the remote handset requests a security word from the base unit. Upon receiving the requested security word, the remote handset determines if the requested security word matches a security word of the remote handset. The remote handset implements a software frequency adjustment of its local oscillator. Once per frame, the remote handset enters a timing recovery state where the current state of the frame is compared with a previous state.
