  • Patent number: 11824255
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein relate to using cobalt (Co) to fine tune the magnetic properties, such as permeability and magnetic loss, of nickel-zinc ferrites to improve the material performance in electronic applications. The method comprises replacing nickel (Ni) with sufficient Co+2 such that the relaxation peak associated with the Co+2 substitution and the relaxation peak associated with the nickel to zinc (Ni/Zn) ratio are into near coincidence. When the relaxation peaks overlap, the material permeability can be substantially maximized and magnetic loss substantially minimized. The resulting materials are useful and provide superior performance particularly for devices operating at the 13.56 MHz ISM band.

Abstract: Technologies for a metal chassis for an electronic device are disclosed. A manufacturer may manufacture a chassis of an electronic device by machining a recess into a chassis preform and perform an anodization of the chassis. The manufacturer may machine the side of the chassis preform opposite the recess to a predefined thickness, and then perform a subsequent anodization. The predefined thickness is selected so that, after the subsequent anodization, there is a single anodized layer between the surface of the recess and the chassis surface on the opposite side. The single anodized layer is non-conductive, allowing electromagnetic signals of an antenna to pass through.

Abstract: Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) mitigation techniques are described herein. In one or more embodiments, a host device is configured to implement a SAR mitigation algorithm to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. The SAR mitigation algorithm may be configured to control radio frequency transmissions (e.g., output levels) for one or more antennas of the host device based at least in part upon an arrangement of an accessory device relative to the host device. By so doing, the SAR mitigation algorithm accounts for adverse influences that accessory devices may have upon radio frequency (RF) emissions from the antennas in some arrangements. The SAR mitigation algorithm may be further configured to account for user presence indications along with accessory device arrangements and adapt transmission power levels accordingly.

  • Patent number: 8890697
Abstract: Mobile devices may minimize the radiation exposure to users by controlling the distance between the user, specifically the groin area, and the mobile device to a minimum distance. The reduction in exposure is realized due to the operation of the Inverse Square Rule on electromagnetic signal from the mobile device recognizing there is a steep fall off of signal strength resultant from increased distance between the head of the user and the source of the signal. Embodiments alert the user to a mobile device in the users pocket is in a transmission mode and thus should be removed from the users pocket to maintain operational distance between the user and the device to reduce signal absorption of the users reproductive organs. Enabled mobile devices detect the transmission mode and the acceleration of the device in determining whether to alert the user. Embodiments influence the user to maintain a minimum distance via alerts, interruptions and warnings.
