Abstract: Network-side and device-side methods and apparatuses improve transmit link adaptation for devices operating in a cellular network that have interference-canceling receivers. Own-cell link adaptation towards a device in a current transmission interval exploits a determined mapping between the interfering-signal cancelation efficiency of the device versus the interfering-signal transport format, in combination with actual knowledge of the transport format that will be used to make an interfering neighbor-cell transmission in the current transmission interval. For example, a serving radio node uses the known transport format of the interfering transmission, to accurately determine the expected cancellation efficiency for the device with respect to the interfering transmission, and uses the expected cancellation efficiency to obtain a more accurate estimate of the own-cell channel quality expected for the device in the current transmission interval.

Abstract: Techniques for detecting and demodulating a signal/transmission are described. Signal detection is performed in multiple stages using different types of signal processing, e.g., using time-domain correlation for a first stage, frequency-domain processing for a second stage, and time-domain processing for a third stage. For the first stage, products of symbols are generated for at least two different delays, correlation between the products for each delay and known values is performed, and correlation results for all delays are combined and used to declare the presence of a signal. For demodulation, the timing of input samples is adjusted to obtain timing-adjusted samples. A frequency offset is estimated and removed from the timing-adjusted samples to obtain frequency-corrected samples, which are processed with a channel estimate to obtain detected symbols. The phases of the detected symbols are corrected to obtain phase-corrected symbols, which are demodulated, deinterleaved, and decoded.

Abstract: A method of beacon detection performed by a small cell device includes: exchanging beacon parameters with a user equipment (UE); entering a low power mode after exchanging the beacon parameters with the UE; receiving, from the UE, a beacon in a random access channel (RACH) preamble containing the beacon parameters while in the low power mode; entering a high power mode in response to receiving the beacon; and associating with the UE while in the high power mode. The method of beacon detection allows a small cell device to transition from a low power mode to a high power mode in an efficient manner. The transmission may be triggered by a user equipment that is entering a service area of the small cell device.

  • Patent number: 9516646
Abstract: In a frequency band switching by Fast Session Transfer (FST), a timeout value (link loss timeout: LLT) is determined based on a change in a communication state, a switching setup sequence including a step of transmitting the determined timeout value to a peer wireless station is performed, and frequency switching to the second frequency band is performed when time of the timeout value elapses from when the switching setup sequence is completed. For example, a large timeout value (LLT=T1) is set at time of connection establishment, and the LLT is changed (LLT=T2 to T4) based on, for example, a state of transmission data or a change in a channel state.

  • Patent number: 9485068
Abstract: Techniques for mitigating pilot pollution in a wireless network are described. In an aspect, pilot pollution may be mitigated by reducing density and/or transmit power of common pilots whenever possible. A cell may send a common pilot at a first density and a first transmit power level during a first time period and may send the common pilot at a second density and a second transmit power level during a second time period. The second density may be lower than the first density and/or the second transmit power level may be lower than the first transmit power level. Lower density may be achieved by sending the common pilot less frequently, on fewer subcarriers, and/or from fewer antennas. The cell may determine whether to reduce the density and/or transmit power of the common pilot based on network loading, SINRs of terminals, etc. In another aspect, pilot pollution may be mitigated by performing pilot cancellation at a terminal.

Abstract: A terminal which is capable of selecting appropriate transmission points while reducing the overhead for channel state information (CSI) reporting is provided. A measuring unit (303) uses a plurality of reference signals from a plurality of transmission points to measure a first reception quality with respect to each of the plurality of reference signals. A receiving unit (301) receives a first piece of information concerning at least one specific reference signal among the plurality of reference signals, and the measuring unit (303) uses the specific reference signal to measure a second reception quality on the basis of the first piece of information. A transmitting unit (304) reports the first reception quality, which satisfies a predetermined condition, and the second reception quality.

Abstract: A system and method of scheduling communication in a wireless communication network are provided. A scheduling scheme comprising a first and second subframe can be determined to communicate data between a first access node and first wireless devices, and a second access node and second wireless devices. A resource request from a network node can be received. An interference indication of the one of the first wireless devices can be determined after receiving the resource request. The first access node can be instructed to transmit data addressed to the one of the first wireless devices during the second subframe when the interference indication of the one of the first wireless devices meets an interference criteria. The second access node can be instructed to transmit data addressed to at least one of the second wireless devices that meets the signal condition threshold during the second subframe of the scheduling scheme.
